I have a Mikuni on my Mont and the only downside is the "Beta effect" it likes to spill fuel out like a Beta, Ive set the float height as I dare as well!
Just fitted the 225 kit for a friend, all seems fine, the bike is much livelier now and ready for a serious test.......Scott!!
One question, head bolts cut to length or tap the cylinder deeper? I cut mine shorter but it only leaves about 6 - 8mm of thread in use. It looked like the holes in the cylinder were drilled quite deep and would thread a bit further down but I has the cylinder on the bike and didn't want to risk it!!
Push the plastic sleeve down that sits on top of the spring and then you can see the lock nut holding the cap on, quicky slip an 18mm (?) spanner on it and it will hold the spring in position while you loosen the cap. You should slip once or twice and nip your hand between the plastic spacer and the fork cap...ouch!!
Try searching ebay for "twinshock alloy spindle", you might find what you want.
Thanks Gordon, I was focussed on ally round bar!!!!!
Great technical reasoning Michael, I was after making something neater than the original rather than saving weight and my theory was its the same size as my GasGas spindle so it must be OK!!
Looking to make a new back wheel spindle for my Cota 200 to replace the old rusty thing!! And was wondering if anyone new which grade of aluminium is best?, I plan to copy my Gas Gas pro spindle bit a bit longer.
If you want to replace ALL of the oil in the rebound side you need to take the cartridge apart and refil it with oil separately, its a messy job but at least you have new oil in the part that matters.
never had that problem on my 247, the dunlops have a pretty stiff sidewall, a little less air pressure required in my oppinion, also when my dunlops were new the seemed a bit slick, took a little while to get them to break in and softem up,
I would be using 3.5 in the back 6 or 7 in the front
I used some Honda VT ? 125 legs on my montesa 200 35mm dia but a bit longer so I had to cut to length then bore out 100mm in from the bottom and turn a circlip groove. I am lucky as I could do it myself but it all depends what the Fantic forks are like.
I have now stipped down my "new" Cota, the crankcase is stamped 28 H (it must be the Honda version) but it has a 200 barrell fitted 64.25mm bore! the frame is also a 29H so it looks like some one has fitted a 123 bottom end into a 200.
So it looks like a 200 top end willl go on a 123.
So I do have a spare 200 barrell, piston and head I could let you have for a fee!!! its 0.25 oversize but I think it realy needs a re bore, jarred at SW Montesa has 0.5 pistons but they are quite expensive!
What you need is the thinner plastic spacer from GasGasUK I think its an S3 one? I had the same problem on my 06 250, when I got my 09 I bought the new spacer and it came much thinner and now the standard lever fots on almost all of the way
Bearings and seals are cheaper from bearing traders such as simply bearings or your local bearing stockist, remember main bearings are normaly C3 clearance and seals should be viton
