  1. Bump! (sorry) Fair enough nobody knows a likely cause or the fix , I don't mind stripping the thing down and replacing any suspect parts, so my next question is where can I get a workshop manual? either printed or on-line, thinking about torque settings, refill of cooling system etc. Thanks in advance
  2. I am hoping for a bit of advice before I get the spanners out My lads Beta 50 has started jumping out of gear, he says 1st seems OK but it has jumped out of 2nd 3rd & 4th, don't know that when it jumps out of 3rd or 4th it finds some sort of "false neutral" I have looked at the exploded views on the Beta website and there does not seen to be much to go wrong, which bits are likely to be worn? He has had a nasty experience when the bike jumped out of 2nd on a big (for him) climb, need to build his confidence again. Thanks

    Blondes

Two blondes walk into a house You would have thought one of them would have seen it...................
  4. Interesting stuff! I am a little surprised that most of you are using WD40 as a chain lubricant, I didn't think that it would be robust enough to provide any lubrication, I rather prefer the 3in1 oil idea, a light oil that wont attract too much muck, makes a lot of sense........ I am currently using some Silcoline spray chain lube, messy stuff indeed
  5. At the risk of getting chastised I don't really like the look of the current REV-3 but I really do like the EVO left side kick start would still be off putting for me though.............. Any idea when we are likely to see them at the UK dealers?
  6. Hello , I am quite new myself.........
  7. I saw this bike restraint system in this weeks T&MX news don't know how long its been around or if its any good? www.motocinch.com & www.motocinch.co.uk Anyone here tried it?
  8. More pictures? How about some sort of "build up" picture sequence
  9. Top stuff! thoroughly enjoyed that
  10. A small update on what might be considered progress: We went along to watch a few sections at the Evesham MCC trial last weekend, this was probably the most challenging trial that we has visited. Impressive stuff , I clearly have a l-o-n-g way to go , and am not sure that I will ever be as good as the worst rider we saw, but not to be put off on our return home I thought I would warm my bike up to drain the oil and change to the synthetic stuff, this turned out to be the most I have ridden the bike, we hacked a bit of undergrowth out at the bottom of the garden and made a (very) small section, very tight and a bit slippery but plenty enough of a challenge for me and my boy. It was clear that this was to turn out to be an afternoons play, so I changed to the slow throttle, initially I did not like it but after about 10 mins I found I had more control. Result! Next change was to wear some gloves, nothing fancy just some cheap fingerless mountain bike gloves with a padded palm, this greatly improved comfort. Result #2! At the end of play I drained the oil, I am so pleased that I have done this as the amount of metal particles in there was quite a surprise, unfortunately did not get chance to ride again until the following day, the new synthetic oil was not all that I had hoped for, my clutch control was back to square 1 , disappointed I made some small adjustments to the lever and after the bike was warm I am somewhere near to having the clutch control I had previously been enjoying, conclusion: synthetic oil, is not the magic cure all I had been hoping for, but possibly a little smoother (when warm). Result #3 One final thing I have found that has improved my control is to wear my newly purchased boots, much more comfortable and now I can reach the rear brake without lifting my foot from the peg. Result #4 My final conclusion is somewhat obvious, time on the bike is how you learn better control, just riding round, stopping, balancing a bit, figure of eights all help a lot, anyway, after spending that afternoon on the bike I now feel ready to progress to some different terrain, if it ever stops raining.........
  11. Years ago (late '70's) I used my Bultaco as my only transport, quite good fun taking the long way to work to include some tracks and on old quarry, not sure I fancy two wheels at all on today's roads
  12. BVM are about 45 mins away, and yes perhaps I should have tried them, however the chap at Opie oils was very helpful and
  13. "Closer to the factory spec" that's the interesting bit, I don't know what oil is in there at the moment, but as the bike is so unused I would believe it to be "factory spec oil" it will be interesting to see that a change to similar spec oil but synthetic will actually make a difference, I anxiously await Fridays postal delivery.....
  14. Hi Bolts on anything other than old British stuff will almost certainly be metric. 8.8 is the grade of bolt, high tensile in this case, the numbers tell you nothing about the size, you will have to measure that. Have you not got a local "bolt shop" where you could go in with your sample? far easier than messing around on-line
  15. Interesting post, I await your conclusion........ I am going to try a different oil in my 2007 clutch, as soon as I can find some locally, I don't know what oil the clutch would be filled with at the factory, but the way you describe a clutch filled with ATF as "grabby" is interesting as this is exactly how I would describe the feel ( or lack of it!) of my clutch. Edited to add:- I have given up trying to find some oil locally, I have been furiously searching the 'net and the name "Opie oils" kept cropping up, spoke to them (very helpful) and have ordered some Silkoline PRO SRG 75 Fully synthetic racing gear oil, I am hoping it will arrive by the weekend, I will post here and let you know how I get on.......
