  1. Not to get off topic, but how hard is it to get observers at twin shock trials? Reason I ask, you see post about how hard it is to find observers in modern trials, and wondered if the observers prefer observing in a easier going enviroment, using the old no stop rules, and I would think for the most part the older generation of rider.
  2. I have ridden loops with the guy's from our local forestry service, mapping trials trails and where they actually go, it is important to get as many mapped as possible, soon we will only be allowed on designated trails so the more we map now the better for us in the future. They use an hand held system that records the whole trail, and location of the sections, they then take it back and download it for mapping. The forestry guy's ride Mont's and what was funny we got sailing along a fun trail a bit too fast and the GPS flew off his tank and broke the glass, I fixed them up with a thick rubber band made from a tube and job was sorted from then on. I don't think they recorded time taken to travel the course though, but wouldn't a stop watch do that. Kinell's problem with the GPS is it speaks to him in the voice of a woman, it is a well documented fact men don't listen to women when driving.
  3. Reading the topic about the UK twin shock series TMX, Dicko asked the question, was it the eased section's and the fact riders could ride them, that was the real incentive, and once clubs started providing a clubmans course riders started migrateing back to modern bikes on the easier course.
  4. All this torque about HP and equations, the Silsden formula, is! will it get up that bloody hill afore pub opens or not
  5. Reading the KTM add as we speak in this month's AMA magazine. "07 KTM 250 XCF-W W= wide ratio transmission, I'm riding will easily chew through everything such varied terrain can throw at it" poor r2 looks like your wish will not be granted
  6. It would look good under you Mr Clean, you could even get the cost of the fuel to collect it if you take Steve's back at the same time.
  7. I had a similar situation on section 15 at Goldendale. It was a man made section all marked out in a straight line, with the then red gates only, drilled and set on rocks and logs with boundary tape running the full length of each side. With some creative bending of the card holders and a little pushing of the tape the riders were able to make the section ride very easy by dropping of the side of rocks and zig zag-ing through the section, actually on his last lap Raga rode the section how it was meant to be ridden and cleaned it. Only one person to blame, myself! I learned next time I would drill and fasten the boundary tape to the rocks so it could not be moved. We had no scoring issues with the section as once it had been ridden in that fashion, all had to be given the same opportunity, if there is a way round, the world champ riders will find it, just got to make sure you spot the dodges before they ride the sections.
  8. I still think for world trials, gate trials is the answer. It solves many of the observer problems, allows more riders to ride the same course. The rider takes on just what he thinks he can clean, but the more risks they take the bigger the reward, yet one dab and they get no score for that section. All the observer has to do is add up total points earned for gates ridden, and a 0 if the rider dabs, man with most points wins. Very interesting for the spectator, because riders will change lines and how many gates they take on depending on how they are doing, if it is close then they will be going for the big scores, if they have a good lead they may play it safe and ride an easier line. Because the lines change depending on the scores less sections will be needed to get more variety in each section. Rest of trials seem to be doing fine, leave well alone.
  9. 1st. 2nd. 3rd. 4th. 5th. 6th. 20, 17, 15, 13, 11, 10, Standings are Raga, 166 Fuji, 154 Doug, 146 Two rounds to go 40 first place points up fro grabs. Raga Has a 12 lead, and has only missed getting on the podium twice this season, Fuji is making a strong run and is the man on form at the moment, best he can do is win the last two, Raga could have a 2nd and 3rd and still be champ. A lot of who can get between the two will come into play. Good close race, but I think the Bookies would make Raga a strong favorite on form.
  10. When your front axle passes the start card's or gate your in the section, and when your front axle passes the end card's your out. I would assume this applies to gates that you are not to ride through in your specific class, if the front axle and the plane between the two gate cards were the decider on weather a rider received a 5 or not, then I could see how some thought it to be unfair, but you have to see it from the observers position, not down the hill spectateing. On the other hand, riders taking a different line providing they don't cross any boundary markers and gates not pertaining to their class shouldn't be marked five because the observer thinks it's an easier line than the other riders took. This is all hear say though, and the observer is the one making the call, not the spectator. Mario thought it was also a tough call, http://www.phototrial.it/2006wc/unitedkingdom.htm
  11. I don't understand what your saying here, do you mean line of intent, or actualy taking the wrong course and riding through another classes gate ?
  12. It's the front page of the April 27th 1979 TMX news, number 102 price 18p Eric Kitchen was more than likely the photographer. And I think the planks and pipe crossing were for the spectators, so they could get up pipeline from the other side and not block the rider trail up.
  13. Think I have the situation in the picture sussed, it's not what it first appeared to be.
  14. I was looking at a picture front page of a 1979 TMX , of Colin Bell works SWM, riding pipeline. In the background it shows riders approaching pipeline from the other side, and then what looks like they get their bikes up on the pipes and ride across some planks. A good few spectators are gathered at the plank crossing, it must of been quite entertaining watching riders slip between the pipes. Anyone remember this ???
  15. It doesn't produce more power than cheap pump gas, but it is more stable, best used in higher compression heads. Cap full of bean oil does add a nice smell to race day. If your bike runs well on super from the pump, then buying race fuel is wasting you $, the bike won't perform any better We can buy 110 race fuel for the same price / gal you pay for the ell cheapo rice burner juice, but BA, might not let you carry on five gal in econo class.
  16. Cheers for that Howard, think I'll stick with the Dellorto then. Bike runs well with it on.
  17. Not sensitive just disappointed, it was a good thing for our club to have Geoff visit like he did, but he and people like him will think twice next time because some see fit to try and make it a bad thing. How long would he be left to post crap like he does if he was giving Ross Danby and Alexz Wigg the same tripe he gives the US youth's. The last youth nationals I attended the man rounded up all the little kid's and had them ride a protest trough the pits, little kid's didn't know what he was doing or the parents for that matter, so the tale about this latest deal at TTC may be a little different than it reads, who knows but those who are there.
  18. Sorry!! I had to delete this topic. I'm not going to waste my time posting about trials when it's just going to be used as cannon fodder by the nut cases. Ishy.
  19. Howard, what was the setup for the Keihin on the 3.2, tried one for the past few day's and took it off. Jetted at main 122, pilot 40 jjh needle. Made the bike too soft and riding my practice section when wanting the quick hit from the bottom, had me ....ing mi sen up a double step, hits a flat spot just when you need it. Put the Dellorto back on and she is twice the bike
  20. I don't think that Kinell training program suits thi, you need to rest more.
  21. Looks like Perce is really taking advantage of home turf
  22. You can save a lot of time by not going and waiting in line at a section, by passing a section you fived the first two loops, and saving ten minutes by doing so, get in on your minute, you have in fact saved five penalty points by missing a section. The rider who waited in line, rides the section and fives it, plus gets ten time penalty points you now have a ten point advantage over that rider all because you missed the section, sound fair to you ? 50 points for missing a section in the Scottish.
  23. Doc, your current residence never was a lively place
  24. I don't need any swing arm protectors, some nice fellow took care of that at the world round Trial this weekend, see if I can keep that front end on the floor
