  1. I have just started to sort out my 301 mono and kicked it over today. with the choke on it started ( after a lot of kicking) and it reved its nuts off choke off it died, after fettling with the adjusters on the carb the same although with the thumb screw i managed to drop the revs with the choke on but it died again. Any ideas? It has not got the standard air filter on just a old pre 65 style one i had knocking around would this explain the erratice behaviour? james
  2. As always woody comes up trumps with the advice,
  3. ok so on the bultaco put 380mm centre to centre shocks on it or even 390
  4. Hi Guys I have got a 159 325 which i have ridden for years and now i have moved up and i am doing hard routes at local trials i have found i cant make the tighter turns (could be my line). My Dad has a 199 325 with a black engine not the 199a, i find his bike has a much snappier engine and is bloody hard to balance at a dead stop which i can do very easily on my bike. when ridding my dads bike however it has a much tighter turning circle therefore i think a steeper head angle. Although it is easy to almost under steer the bike. (you turn and the front wheel goes straight on) I have a 199a frame which i am building up (possibly with a fantic engine as i have one lying around). it has the rear loop modified to look like the 199b ( i did not do, it i got it like that) i was wondering what you top boys would recomend if i was to get the head angle steepened. what angle should i get it done to???? I knew an old engineer who rather modify the head angle did somthing to the fork clamps however he passed away before i could get him to do the work. Whilst i am at it is it worth changing the rear suspension angles/positions? i was just going to buy some magicals and leave it be but in for a penny in for a pound. cheers james
  5. just realised there is a whole section in the forum on this looks like carol nash is the answer still i am looking for any advice you may have
  6. Does any one know where i can insure my classic trials bikes against theft? i dont have a road liscence so cant get insurance under that all i want is to be able to put my classic off road bikes under my home insurance but alas i cant find a company which will allow me to do it. any help much appreciated james
  7. Hi guys I have spent 2011, buying bits and pieces to finally build up a modified/competative bultaco and have been trying to find out what modifications work and dont work. My questions are what are the best hubs to use for braking performance? I have got steel linners in my 159 and they produce ok stopping power but nothing compared to some TYs, honda, fantics and certian pre 65 scotish winning bikes i know. Has any one tried a different exhaust on there bikes? the bultaco ones seem heavy take up a lot of room and get a lot of mus stuck between it and the rear tyre......i was think a yammaha ty pipe work may work better. last of all..... the clutch. my clutch works fine on the 159 but i came across a bsa bamtam with a hydraulic clutch which was nothing but impressive and trust me the chap on it gave the mono boys a dam good run for there money just wondering if any one has tried it on a bultaco? thanks bulto boy

    sherpa footpegs

has anyone tried making a plate which will weld/bolt on the frame enabling you to position foot pegs where ever you choose. having the pegs lower would be good for me as i am a tall fella but will this effect the bike in an advers way i.e mess up the handling or front end grip?
  9. wish i could do that on my bultaco
  10. just to make sure i have this right. where the arm goes through the brake plate put a bronze bush in and mill to fit the operating arm?
  11. hi woody, i have been reading your comments on the bultaco forum were you metioned magicals suspension. i have found your advice good in the past so hope you can help me out. Are the magicals front fork springs worth the extra money over bultaco uks springs? also what are there rear shocks like. i am no expert in seeting up rear shock just i know mine a dead and need replacing. many thanks james

  13. Hi gents/ladies strictly speaking i know that this is not a trials topis but i bet some one out there has the answer i need. would a ajs stormer 370cc crank cases take a 250 barrel, head, piston and cranks??? basicaly can i make a 250 engine with 370 crank cases? many thanks james
  14. got to say Woody you are bang on the money!!! I have bought 2 electronic ignition systems from dave at bultaco uk both different for different models and both been used on another engine wilst the originals had work done. Both bolt on kick over and away you go one engine has not even had the spark plug changed in two years and still fires second kick!!! I then bought an ignition system from electex world for my ajs stormer and my good what a pain in the rectum. 1st of all no instructions, second of all only one guy in the comany knew how to set this particular system up and he was on holiday, 3rd of all when the guy came back he got it wrong!!! eventually my dad sat out in the garage and with a lot of tea and an occasional curse and a spanner flying he sorted it. not only that it cost 100 quid more then the bultaco's ignition ah well it works now lets hope i don't have to take it off any time soon rant over
  15. Being 22 i can say it Looks like us youngsters missed out on a lot of fun!!!
  16. Also look on your needle postion......i have a mk2 and the three notches on the top of the needle can make a difference.
  17. check the screws on the back plate, with the new ignition i had to use different screws to make it all fit as the heads of the ones i had stuck out too much

    Fork Clamps

i have a 199A frame which i am gathering spares for to do up. Is there any difference with the double crown clamps between different models also will a 159 swinging arm fit on a 199a frame? only asking as there seems to be loads of spares for 159's kicking about but 199a stuff is hard to come by
