Your missing a vital point here with this manager thing.It's not the manager that set's your wage rate,that would be down to the boss who own's the company would it not.

Is it right to slate the manager for the rule's he did'nt make,he's just there to uphold the rule's.

OK Ishy, I did say it was my final word,but its obvious theres a lot of Managers out there reading this and yes your right its obvious that my Manager thinks that what he pays me is what I am worth,its a good job the Engineers don't pay the Managers what we think their worth.The thing is I think the Managers know what their worth and just like to reflect this on the Engineers to make themselves feel good.They should stick with Wan King the ancient form of pleasure.

Your attitude is just getting worse each post you make! If you have that level of contempt for your manager, its hardly likely he is going to see you as someone he wishes to pay more money to don't you think?

You say you have been working for this company for 18 years? Maybe he's thinking if he pees you off enough, you will do him a favour and leave.

As an employer, we have invested thousands of pounds on training in the past. Most of it has been money well spent but sadly, the rest was a complete waste of time, money and effort for us.

The time spent arranging and booking somebody on a specialist course, accomodation, travel, meal vouchers, plus the course fees, examination fees, wage costs and Employers NI (12%) can add up to a fair few quid. It's very disappointing when the employee then says "I've been offered another job for more money so pay me extra or I'm off". Personally, I don't take kindly to blackmail so I ask them to put their notice in writing ASAP. They either do that and leave or they stay, either way they've had their cards marked. The best bit is when an ex-employee rings up for their job back because the new job isn't that great after all. "Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. We had massive interest in your vacant position and managed to fill it within a matter of days. He/she is getting on really well with everybody and is looking forward to the training courses we have planned! :D

Training is a two-way street in that the employee and the company should both benefit at the same time. How can a company expect to motivate its workforce and keep them interested/committed to the job if they ignore personal development? Likewise, how can an employee expect the company to pay them more money when they are not interested in furthering their own abilities and spend their lunch hour looking through the Jobs pages?

We learned our lessons the hard way and now, because of the minority - all employees have to sign a 'Training Reimbursement' clause that effectively allows the company to claw back any wasted investment when they leave for pastures new. No signature = no training =vacancy re-advertised...

OK Atom, so you are are a confirmed Manager or at least a would be Manager.I realy could not give a f**k if my Manager wanted to get rid of me.The real point is you only live once and say what you want to say before you die, you may live to regret it.(what?)Do you see how what you said just bounced off me.

As for the ''do unto others...'',err, well I have a wife(I'm guessing you do too) and there's somethings..err. I do to her..err..that I wouldn't...you get the picture?

I'm trying hard to avoid sounding arrogant (no-really!)but my only 'support' for you is to advise you to take a big bite of that 5h1t sandwich and accept that your boss/any boss is always going to be steppin' on your balls.

Kinell,if most of what you spent was well spent then what are you moaning about.What I am talking about is money that was spent on

me training me up to do jobs that you could charge the customer extra for,but not wanting to give me any extra .Most of your Employee's would say the same if they had any ball's.Just remember why you entered a business,it was to make money,the same applies to all of you employee's they only go to work for the money.Any chance of of a job?

PS.'Training Reimbursement' well I really would have great pleasure in telling you to shove it so far up your RSS that it would come out of your mouth.

I'm not moaning but as per usual, the minority spoiled it for the majority. Maybe your firm didn't pay you any extra because they had already invested money in training you up or maybe they thought you were not worth any more money or that costs had risen higher than they thought. Who knows, who cares...

Plenty of our employees did have the balls to say something but some regretted it later, our firm pays well and treats its workforce with respect. I founded a business from scratch, put in the hours, sacrificed time with the family blah, blah blah and yes, I do it for the money. As I've said to many a whinging **** "I'm running a business, not a charity so you know where the door is if you think you can do any better"

Our reimbursement clause works a treat, the ones that are loyal and want to advance themselves sign it without hesitation while the chancers, no hopers and dossers say "Stick it up your RSS".

If you think your employer sucks, go get another job. Or better still, become an employer yourself and see how easy it is.... NOT!

Blimey! This is a topic that has got well out of hand!

Andy, from another Andy, let me give you my perspective.

I don't exactly love the company I work for, but don't hate them either. I am customer-facing so it's vital when I go into customers I know what I'm talking about. I wanted training about a year back to get myself up to speed with the latest and greatest, but due to cut-backs I was denied the flights to attend the training I needed to get myself up to date and maintain my credibilitywith my customers - and subsequently make money for my employers.

My employers fast realised they made a mistake in those training restrictions and we now have an unlimited training budget. I'm grabbing every bit of training I can get. Not because I want to move jobs, but because I want to continue to better myself and provide the service my customers, many of whom I've come to know personally, would expect.

Oh Atom have I hit you where it hurts,if you start a business and it aint what you thought it should be then don't blame me.If i had a business all the Employee's would be paid a fair wage and I would listen to their opinions whether they where right or wrong.You must think your Employee's are stupid,just remember they will get back at you double what they think you owe them one way or another.

You've obviously got the 'It's them or us!" attitude, maybe you should change jobs as you don't seem to be too happy where you are now. I've employed plenty of folk who think running a business is easy, maybe your bosses are coining it in and you think you deserve a share of their fortunes? I don't know and I really don't care to be honest. Move on or crack on, the choice is yours.

I'm sure you would be over the moon if my business folded, try thinking beyond the end of your nose and think of the families of the people we employ and how they would suffer if we did go tit$ up. And, whilst I'm on one - I've just sold a business and made a tidy profit but only after ensuring that every single member of staff had their future employment guaranteed. By the way, the profit was re-invested into a new company so I won't be paying the mortgage off or buying a yacht in the Bahamas just yet...

Probably a good idea. Jack it in and there will be a Polish person replacing you shortly at way less than you're paid, but with way more enthusiasm for the work.
