March 24, 201511 yr Hi I'm new to trials and I recently bought a 2005 300 raga edition. On my last time out I was practicing slow wheelies up a hill when the engine started knocking a fair bit. We went back to the van and stripped the clutch side down expecting to see something but there was no obvious signs of new damage. But there was a little play in the clutch basket, is normal? Since then I have totally stripped the engine to check for play in bearings and gears but I can't find anything other than the kickstart idle gear is pretty messy teeth broken. Would that cause a serious knocking sound?
March 24, 201511 yr Author I forgot to mention after looking in the cutch case on the day I decided to run the bike some more to see if the problem got any worse and it over heated so I called it a day.
March 24, 201511 yr The idle gear will rattle even if it has a scratch, if you have broken teeth your problem lies there. An 05 300 Raga for a newbie, Brave man LOL.
March 25, 201511 yr Did the fan run? When the fan starts going bad, sometime it starts sometimes no. When it is going bad, you can start it with your finger. Good luck.
March 25, 201511 yr If you had the clutch cover off I reckon you haven't lined the waterpump drive up properly if it overheated.
March 25, 201511 yr Author Thanks for the responses guys. I am going to be replacing the idle gear as that seems to be the only damaged part. The fan was working before but it did whine once on a trials training day so i gave it a bang and it stopped whining. (much like the missus) I will make sure the water pump is 100% lined up when i put the engine back together. As for being brave on a 300 raga, i think im more stupid than braveive crashed this bike more in the few times ive rode it then any other bike in my life. I am planning to reduce the power so its a little more forgiving.
March 25, 201511 yr If the clutch basket has play, replace the two bearings on the shaft, and check the shaft for play. If shaft has play, replace the big bearing inside the casing (need to take engine appart)

March 25, 201511 yr Author One more thing, while watching this video he talks about a clutch hub bushing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eucYaEA-Cfc I couldnt see one in my clutch hub so i ordered one from splat shop when it arrived it looks like the part that is pressed in the hub. Is this the same part or should it be fitted over that part?

March 25, 201511 yr Give it a tap it will come out, But you could just leave it there and refit the clutch as it's not a wear and tear part so will not need replacing. Just tap it from the side shown in your picture and it will drop out through the centre of the shaft.
