It looks like the seal might have gone, as my bike has decided to mark it's territory very thoroughly ... can it be swapped without major headaches? And does anyone know what size it is?

  2. hello dear cyber friends, so moving onto replacing steering head bearings now (74TYa). Are there any top tips or special tools i should think about or read up on before embarking on this (for me) cryptic conundrum of mechanical mastery. are there any surprises replacing the original old ball and race with the new tapered kit? this vid got me a wee bit nervous... ive watched many vids online but they're all big road bikes, and i've searched the forum and found a few things, but if i'm missing a useful thread and this has been covered before please direct me there! im just looking for a basic walk through on procedure if different/easier on a…

Hi all I’m new to this forum. I acquired a 1980? Ty175 about a year ago and I’m just starting to re condition it hoping for some help and support. My first hurdle is removing the flywheel. I’ve managed to remove the centre nut doesn’t seem to be a washer behind it? I’ve now threaded two pullers trying to get the flywheel off. Is there something I’m missing? It says in the book tighten the puller and hit the central bolt but it’s stuck solid? Any help would be greatfully received.

Hi, I’ve been rebuilding a TY125 for some time and have nearly finished, the problem is that the original carb has some serious internal corrosion and I can’t get the bike to run properly. I’ve found an incomplete TY175 carb on eBay but have no idea what main jet size to use, the 175 has a 240 main in the bottom of the float bowl while the 125 has a 100 in the conventional position.

My son bought an old TY80 and needed to replace the fork seals. The bike is somewhere between a 1976 and 1982 model. To cut a long story short the fork seals are ancient and pretty much stuck in the forks. During our trying to get them out the top of the seal has come away and try as we might we cant get the bottom part of the seal out. My plan is now to take the forks completely apart in order to release the damaged seal. Do I need a fork damper tool and if so is there a specific one for this bike? If not, how do I take the forks apart. I saw there was a posting back in 2007 but it seemed untried on a TY80 and I dont want to cause any damage. Any help would be greatfully…

  7. Guys, Does anyone know if this rear brake lever is off of another model (factory bend) or is it something anyone can do with a propane torch and a vice? Notice how the pegs are in the rear position and the brake lever is still easily accessable?

If anyone would care to post a picture of a trials gear shift lever for the TY 250 A and / or just tell me what the length is supposed to be? I think mine is non- standard as the original owner had the bike set up for trail riding and I want to switch it back to trials mode for the time being.

  9. Guys, Need your opinion. I still have time to specify what happens to my "new" cylinder from my TY 250A. It won't get to Millenium Technologies for another few days. And originally I was going to have it Nikasil plated, But now I am wondering if that is still a good idea? It will get a new Wossener piston too unless there is some reason not to?? The TY 250 barrel has a cast iron liner. But the cylinder is still the old air cooled type. There will be more heat expansion on this setup than would be the case with a water cooled cylinder, and it's a 2 stroke of course, but what are the advantages of a Nikasil lining for this application? I will p…

  10. Hello esteemed, revered and acclaimed masters of mechanical know how! i have found tillerman6's posts/replies enlightened learning and would like to thank you all for your input. Thank you sincerely as no here (in NYC) even seems to know what a trials bike is! so question 1, as a noob who is trying to get more confident, i was feeling inspired to try and do a top end tear down and learn more about the piston/chamber etc and at least assess current conditions and hopefully allow me to feed the addiction of buying new parts if needed and replacing (or stashing for later)... having already asked on here about the oil seals, and been encouraged to go down the …

I've recently bought a nice 1976 TY175 with a view to doing the odd twinshock trial. It's very clean and original but has a nick in one of the graphics on the tank and the heat shield is a bit off colour. I've ordered new graphics and a local paint shop will do the respray and lacquer etc. Two quick q's. 1. Does £200 sound about right for this job? Back in 1980 I did my own respray and lacquer with cans but I need a better finish than my lack of talent will deliver. 2. Does anyone know the colour code (it is a white model)? Cheers.

I have a Teikie carburator which I am positive is the stock carburetor as I bought the bike new. It is black. I would like to locate a carb rebuild kit or if not available locate an original carb but need to know the internals are good as if I can't find parts it would be a problem. For some reason the guy who rebuilt mine lost the needle valve Anu ideas would be helpfull Geof Phillips

I have a 1976 TY250. It's missing the heat shield '250' decal and I have not been able to find one to purchase. My plan is to create this decal – it is white on clear. As my bike is currently stored away from my house, I'm asking to see if someone can measure the heat shield decal area on the heat shield – specifically the height. I believe the heat shield is the same on all models (though I may be wrong). I plan on making a bunch if anyone else needs one. I believe the same decal is used on the left-side plastic cover. Thanks,

  14. Started by Tillerman6,

Guys, I started a thread asking about cleaning the tailpipe and got side tracked a bit. Can anyone look at these photos for me and see if that intake side port opening looks damaged or modified or normal? in some way? It looks to me that one side of the opening is lower than the other, and somehow it might have been caused by someone in there with a grinder? The right side of the image is much shinier than the left side as well, so I don't know why that would be the case. All I did was wash the whole jug with water and a solvent and I did not scrub this area on the right any more than I did on the left side. So something has been in there either with a lot…

  15. Hi Guys, most greatly appreciated quickie steer on a Yamaha 4 stroke fault. Plenty of spark but no ignition and plug totally dry, replaced petcock in tank, replaced carb, (even removed carb and sprayed easy start direct into manifold while cranking), plug still dry with no ignition ? I had removed the plug and filled the plug socket (in the head with tissue, turned the engine and it blasted out), hoping to indicate compression ? I'm at a complete loss as to what to look for next, any ideas would be most greatly appreciated Thank you very much

Hi people, my lads mini ty80 fronts forks are in need of Re chroming , not a problem- but not cheap, has any one grafted the very available pw50 forks onto a ty80, the pw forks come up 21mm but I think the ty are wider? A will have to get a micrometer one day but just thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone wants to save me work of hours of research.
