  1. Started by neonsurge,

My adventures in mechanical imcompetence continue. I want to remove the airbox to check the rubber boot for tears and get easier access to the intake manifold to check that and take a look at the reed block. However, I can't get the airbox off! I've removed the screws in the "subframe" and loosened the boot at the carb, but it steadfastly refuses to shift. I feels like it's still attached somewhere on the right hand side where the mid pipe meets the silencer but there's nothing obvious and I wondered if there's something I'm missing. I anyone could quickly outline the procedure for airbox removal I'd really appreciate it and promise not to ask any more daft questions for…

Thanks for the help with info on the 2000 model pro and cons. Decided to pass on it because I just don't like USD forks. I have found an '01 250 and wondered if anyone could tell me an characteristics or things to look for on this bike. Help me one more time and I'll quit bothering you. Any tips appreciated because I'm going to buy this one unless there is a problem I don't know about with this model. Thanks for any help, there are just no trials ridrs where I live so there is nobody to ask.

Just a quickie: Does anyone know the standard (factory) jetting for a 2002 Rev-3 270 (pilot/main)? My bike's got a 150 main when I was led to believe that 140 was standard...

After reading all related posts on the subject on this site and having exhausted all other possibilities (carb, cooling, fuel etc.) in an attempt to cure my Rev-3's pinging problem (clarkp's posts have been particuarly helpful - thanks man!) I've finally accepted the fact that I need to investigate the timing. The problem is, this is one job that I've never attempted before and once I get the magneto cover off I'm not really sure what to do next. I guess I need to remove the flywheel to get at the stator (do I need any special tools for this?) but once that's done I'm not sure where to look for the adjuster screws etc. If anyone could point me in the direction of a site…

I got the 2001 Beta and am in the process of going through it and one thing I am working on is cleaning the exhaust system. I have the silencer cleaned and ready to repack but my question is about the mid muffler. What is the best way to clean it? I am assuming that it has packing in it also so I am not sure if I can run a solvent through it. I have it off and proped by the shed now letting the oil run out of it. I was thinking of dowsing it in degreaser and blasting it out at the car wash with high pressure hose. What is the best way to go about it?

I drowned by Rev 3 in some fairly deep water this past week. I had to flip the bike over and pump the water out of the cylindar. I also did the following: -took apart the carb -cleaned out the airbox. -removed the right side flywheel cover, dried and sprayed with WD40 -changed the gearbox oil three times, running the bike briefly after each oil change. The last change showed no signs of water. Is there anything I did wrong or something I should do and I haven't? thanks

Greetings All, I posted a message last December about selecting and buying an '04 Beta Rev3 270. I have put a lot of time on it since, and I thought I would post an update. I still absolutely love the bike and I am certain I made the right choice. If you did not read or remember the previous post, I started out on an '87 Beta (9 years old). Then I bought a '96 Techno (1 year old). I competed on the Techno for 4 years. In 2000 I bought a new GasGas 280 for my 14 year old son (bit of a story there). He rode the High School class at the US nationals and the US Youth Nationals on it. After that season, he lost interest in trials. I then had 2 bikes in the basement. A 5 yea…

My recent proclaimation on another thread that I'd solved the pinging problem with my Rev-3 seems to have been premature. Last weekend it was up to its old pinging tricks, although only under under load and when going uphill at which point the pinging is accompanied by blue smoke from the exhaust. I pulled the plug last night and it's black and wet. Combined with the blue smoke, a sure sign of worn piston/rings right? Well in my (limited) experience a bike with worn rings will reguarly foul plugs but mine starts very easily, idles fine, runs fine (most of the time) and has yet to foul a single plug. And why only when going uphill? The uphill thing might be a red herring…

Beta 65 Sherco 60 Gas Gas 59 Montesa 51 Scorpa 21 Yamaha 6 Aprilla 1 Fantic 1 There were 16 riders who did not state what brand bike they were riding.

My Rev-3 250 was delivered to me with an NGK BP5ES installed. I switched out to the Beta-specified Champion N7YC (couldn't find the N7YCC - Copper Core). What is everyone else running in the 250 / 270 REV-3? Is there a cross-reference to a Bosch part number?
