    Montesa

From what i remember, Honda bought Montesa around 1983. At the time certain Montesa's were painted in Honda -ish colour's being Orange-ish/Red frame's and tank-seat unit's, with white mudguards, and called Montesa Honda, being of 123, 200 and the 349 model's, Montesa having thier own colour scheme, of red frame's and white plastic's on the 123, 200 and 349 model's, but keeping the then new 242 in it's own colourscheme of white tank-seat unit, with red frame and mudguards. As far as i can remember, the last actual Montesa engined bike was the 311 of the early 90's, never ridden one myself, but been told they were a good bike. Then followed by the 314 that had a HRC engine, have not seen many of those around, sorta speak's for itself, lol. Then the 315 (also with a HRC engine), fantastic bike, (wish i still had my 03), and now the 4RT. Lastly, i understand that most of the bike is in fact of Italian and Japanese build, and assembled in Spain, ie, the engine is made by Honda Italia, frame is made by the same people that make the Beta frame's, where-as the suspension is made in Japan by Showa, making one fantastic bike (Now on my third 4RT, oooh yush.) Lastly, i read somewhere that Montesa are supposed to be working on a 'new' bike, don't know if it's just a revised 4RT, or a completely new model, wait and see i suppose, just that something would have been leeked out by now. Regards GaffaMont
  2. Hmmmm, yaeh, as much as i love my 4RT (3rd one by the way ), i am thinking on getting a 03/04 315 just for the hell of it, mate has a 04, and every now and then i nick it just for the thrill, lovely bike's

    4RT, WOW :0)

Hiya, thing is with the 4-stroke Montesa, is that it's a bit of a Marmite bike, you either love it, or hate it. I myself, love em', bought a newish 2009 model earlier this year, part ex'd my 4-stroke 250 Beta Evo for one. Just wish i could spend more time riding it, lol. Although i'm still a crap rider, i enjoy riding these Mont's the most, isn't that what it's all about ??? Regards GaffaMont

    Mont 4rt

Just about to get a 2010 Beta Evo 300, after having two 4RT's, brilliant bike's, would have another one, (if it wasn't for the price). Had a Beta Rev4 (between my two 4RT's), nice and smooth, but lacking in power, and felt like i had to gun it, unlike the feeling with the Montesa, where everything that you needed was just off tick-over. Will be reporting back, with my personel veiw. lol. Regards GaffaMont.
  5. Hi NZRalphy and jam, thanks for the tip's, and also, i am thinking on a 2-stroke Gasser. Hi MIKEE, as i said, the Sherco "may be a good bike but not for me", i found the motor to be to buzzy and the rear suspension made it felt as though the rear tyre was pumped up too hard, that may just be me. On the other extreme, i agree, the Rev4 has plenty of soft power, but too soft. Yet to try a Evo 300. To be totally honest with you all, if money was not an issue, i would buy a 2009/10 Montesa, but S/H prices (for a 2010) being around
  6. Hi, have not been here for a while, bikeless at the moment and thinking about getting myself a 2008 4-stroke Scorpa 250, had a couple of Montesa 4RT's and a Beta Rev4 (preferred the 4RT to the Rev4, yet to try the Beta Evo 250/300), don't like the Sherco 3.2, may be a good bike, but not for me. Would like to know people's opinion's on the Scorpa, cheers. Regards GaffaMont.
  7. Any news ? Seems to have gone quiet, have Xispa taken over ????????? Regards GaffaMont.

    Xispa 125

Hi, does anybody have a Xispa 125 ? What are they like, and compared to a Gas Gas 125 ?? Regards GaffaMont.
  10. Hi RTM, don't know the in's and out's of it all, but i passed my car test in 1985 (ouch), and finally done my Direct Access a couple of years ago in 2008, and i still had to do my CBT first. More a confidence thing than anything. Hope this helps. Regards GaffaMont.
  11. Hi trialsguysid, welcome aboard. I was the other way round to you, done trials for years, occaisionally riding a road bike, and finally done my direct access a couple of years ago. Of the 3 days, the first two were spent getting me to sit still, sit down and using all my fingers on the levers. At one point during the second day they caught me trying to let some air out of the tyre's when it rained Poor blighter, had a nervous twitch by the time i passed, maybe he paid the examiner. Anyway, where abouts in West Sussex are you ? Regards GaffaMont.
  12. Hey Franck, try here :- http://jbanyeres.com/cat/primera.html . Maybe send him an message. But i understand that he can take his time getting back to people as this his not his main occupation, he is infact Takahisa Fujinami's minder. Let us know how you get on. Best regards, Gaffamont.
  13. I have had a couple of ex-SSDT bikes, both have been good machines. Infact, i had a (if i rememmber correctly) ex-team Armstrong 320 that had done the 1983/4 (?) event, and apart from minor rub marks and the riders number marked virtually everywhere it was like brand new, shame that i had no idea how to ride the flaming thing !!! Regards GaffaMont.
  14. Hi monoped, i think gasgasben put that peice of film on an earlier thread. I like the fact that somebody has put a Scorpions track to it (Rock You Like A Hurricane). I'm starting to think that it's a sign for me to give up my 4RT, and get myself a new Ossa when they finally turn up. Regards GaffaMont.
  15. It's funny to note that the only people on this thread that are being negative about our beloved 4RT are the people that don't own/like, had a quick go on one once or bought one as it was the latest thing, try to ride it like a 2-stroke then complain about them. For the record, i have had (since my return to trials in 2002) a Sherco and three Beta's, and had problems with all of them, i have had 2 315's, and i am now on my second 4RT, and all four have been the most reliable bike's i have had, though i will admit, that the 4RT is too expensive, and too loud. Lastly, i have ridden 2-stroke most of my trials life, when i first jumped on a 4RT just to have a go, it all made sense, i now find 2-strokes difficult to ride, don't get me wrong, i'm nothing all that special myself, it's just that the 4RT suit's me. That's where some people miss the point, it's what you enjoy riding and what you get on with. Regards (to all my fellow 4RT riders). GaffaMont.
