    Boots

Had two pairs of Alpinstars now and can't complain about the comfort. Only downside is that both pairs have come unstitched above the foot towards the inside of the boot, where the leather meets the synthetic material. I got the second pair repaired for less than

    Needle Height?

I dropped the needle one notch before I put Boyesen reeds in and changed jets to 145/27.5. Bike seemed to be running lean, so I put the needle back to original (middle notch) and now it's fine.

    Blackening The Beta

    Steve Saunders SXS, I think.
  4. Sorry Russell, had to work all day Saturday and Sunday, so I've spent most of my weekend half a mile under Eggborough . If the video posted on here recently was anything to go by, I bet it was a good show.
  5. Found this whilst looking for a mains powered shed alarm on ebay, looks more or less the same as Betarev3's link. Not sure if there's any restrictions on using/owning blank cartridges though. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12G-Alarm-Mine-Burgu...VQQcmdZViewItem

    Blackening The Beta

R2W, has the front disc cover been modified, or is it a special?
  7. Hello DJ, after cutting his teeth on an LT 50 and a Husky Boy, my lads 1st trials bike was an '02 GasGas TXT 50 Boy, beautiful bike that we bought new but a nightmare electrically. Nice features were discs front and rear, foot operated rear brake, two ratio gearbox (operated via a knob on the gearbox) and although it was an automatic, it still had a manual clutch. Spent some time at the dealers with electrical faults that stopped it running and in the end, we swapped for Beta Rev 50. I did read though that GasGas went on to put the faults right on subsequent models, so this could be a contender to the TY80. Another similar size bike is the Beta Mini Trial, again a rev-and-go bike which is said to be bomb proof. Nearly sure these are single speed with a KTM motor and that both brake are on the handlebars. At the end of the day though, you'll have to go with what your lad feels comfortable on!

    Beta

Like fantic 156 says, use antifreeze and distilled water mixed. I had an '03 Rev 3 that managed to corode thro' the outer clutch housing. At the time, I went on to use the pink organic anti-freeze mixed 50/50 with distilled water. Always read what it says on the instructions though.
  9. My first bike was a '97 Gas Gas 270 that had taken more hammer than a blind cobblers thumb. When I decided to upgrade, I'd more or less decided on a Montesa 315 because of the build quality. Then I walked past a brand new '03 Rev 3 on the way into a bike shop and knew instantly what I was buying. Me and my mate put orders in and due to the demand for Beta's that year had a short wait. Neither of us were disapointed when we took delivery of our bikes and started riding them. Over about two and a half years, I ended up needing a stator plate re-furb and a new outer clutch housing, but at a total cost of less than
  10. I can't believe what the council is trying to do here . I can't see the logic in taking away a legal venue in the current circumstances where the Police are trying to clamp down on illegal off-roading . I've put together a letter which will be in the post asap, just hope that the decision can be reversed.
  11. There's a topic in Bike Specific Forums-Beta called "Rev3 Airbox Maintenance" that was started on Jan. 27 2006 by 5again, I've tried putting a link but I handle a P.C. worse than my Rev3. Hope this helps.
  12. BetaRev3, can't believe the difference they have made. Like you said, more grunt, pulls away from nothing and feels to be so much more torque. Doing a steep stony climb yesterday with the throttle almost closed, couldn't believe it.
  13. I've just stuck some Boyesen reeds in my 2006 250 Rev3, along with the drilling mod and the float height mod on R2W site and I can't believe the difference it's made to the bike. So much so that my mate has had me order a set for his 270. The only downfall I can see is that the revs fall when going downhill, so I have to blip the throttle every now and again to stop the bike stalling. I'm still running with the standard jets, don't know if changing the pilot jet would make a difference. I run the bike on 70ml Castrol TTS in 5l of super unleaded with a platinum plug and standard air filter.
  14. Try the website below. http://www.trialstrainingcenter.com/html/hopping.html
  15. Thanks for that Russell, should be able to make that. Cheers
  16. I've seen a tank split on a Scorpa, but it was dropped directly onto the edge of a rock. I think the tank issue is probably offset by the way the silencer tucks out of the way and is therefore less likely to take a whacking in the event of a "dismount!" (I'm on my 2nd Rev 3 and wish the silencer was out of the way, as per Scorpas and Shercos.)
  17. rransome, wouldn't mind coming for a peek at that if it's o.k. as I live just the other side of Pontefract. Where abouts in Sherburn is the gala held and what time does it start?
  18. I have two bikes (2006 Rev 3 250 and 2003 Rev 80) insured through my home insurance on a "laid up policy." Basically, both bikes are insured against theft whilst at my home address. Last year, the premium was around
  19. I had an '03 250 that went the same way, ended up changing the casing. At the time, the recommendation in a thread on here suggested using the pink organic anti-freeze, which I did.
  20. I've had 2 full size bikes in my vauxhall combi before now (rev 3 250 and 280 gasgas)
  21. Got the stator on my '03 250 done thro' <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central>, nearly sure they used West Country Windings who used to advertise in T+MX. I've heard the stator can be better once re-conned as they put more resin on but don't know how true it is.
  22. It's the same on my new 2006 Rev3. I wonder if fitting a half link to the chain would help?
  23. I've now fitted the new housing and opted for the red organic anti-freeze which claims to be good for 5 years as opposed to 2years with the normal stuff. Judging by the response, it would appear that 2003 was a bad year for Beta castings. Mine hadn't gone as bad as Clark p's but a leak is a leak. Incidently, I also had problems with a dodgy stator plate which had to be refurbished.
  24. Thanks for the feedback fellas. I've had the bike from new and so know it's history. I've used nothing but anti-freeze/tap water mixed to the correct ratio, so I don't think there's anything wrong there. I seem to recall being told that Renault are particular about the anti-freeze they use due to the possibility of a reaction with the cylinder head material, but I don't how true it is.
