  1. Check the water pump impeller by draining coolant and taking off cover, easy job. This happened to my mates evo. We couldn't work out what the problem was until then. The impeller blades were sheared thus coolant was not circulating effectively. Just have a quick check to rule this out if nothing else. Don't ignore this as if this is the problem, your fan running constantly won't stop the overheating

  5. Hi Fantic fans the world over. I have just replaced the clutch lever assembly on my cherished 245 with an expensive but quality domino unit. Have also fitted a new Venhill clutch cable. The action now feels very nice and smooth. Very good disengagement, no drag but unfortunately the clutch now slips when in higher gears (3rd onwards) under load. The cable adjuster at the assembly end is screwed right in. What is my best option now - new plates, or is there something else simple? Thanks for any advice dave
  6. Can anyone advise whether it's worthreplacing a worn throttle slide on my 245. The bike is a bit gutless. Or would replacing the carb totally be a better solution. thanks all.

  8. Pindie, Falcon shocks service all types of trials shocks. Might be able to service the paoli. I had my rev3 shock done at lampkins 2 years ago - are they no longer offering this service. very poor if so!

  10. Lucky that's not an Evo you're riding - rear mudguard would be broken in two now and you would be facing a bill of 70 odd quid for a new one
  11. I learnt something useful this week. Ensure the coolant level in the rad is sufficient so that the thermostat is in the liquid. It is located at the top so a low level of coolant means that the fan doesn't kick in. My mate's Evo nearly seized due to this. Luckily, I noticed steam coming from the overflow. The fan wasn't coming on even though the engine was extremely hot. Shows how critical pre-ride checks are! Whilst I'm on, also pull down the rear brake piston protective rubber next time you check the bike over. it collects a lot of grit which remains after the finer particles of mud are washed out. Dave

  15. Thanks for your advice chaps. New Talon sprocket on its way from BVM. Original sprocket holes were oval in shape.
  16. Hi all, rear sprocket is loose, causing play on 2011 Evo. Bolts are as tight as they will go however. Anyone come across this? looks like it needs a new wheel hub to me as the bolt-holes must be out of true. Bike is 9 moths old - is it worth trying for a free replacement?   17. I always find suspension one of the most confusing aspects of trials motorcycle setup. On my Fantic 245 monoshock, it appears to be adjustable via three methods - by increasing or increasing the compression damping by turning a knob on the gas bottle under the petrol tank, tightening the spring up or by a black knob at the lower end of the suspension unit. What is this black knob, is it rebound adjustment? Does it really make any difference I ask. If so, which way to increase it, clockwise or anticlockwise? I find the adjustment of compression damping is quite effective in stiffening up the rear end. What exactly does compressing the spring do? Anyone know any good websites relating to suspension setup? Ramblings late at night with a glass of shiraz in my non typing hand, and one eye on the 10 o clock news! ?
  18. How can i get a bit more oompf from my fantic 245. Exhaust is cleaned through, engine decoked etc. Still it is sluggish. many thanks and merry christmas!
  19. Yes my 2011 250 rattles in the clutch area. Is it going to be ok?
  20. A question to the Fantic experts! How exactly does the detachable rear frame attach to the main frame part just above the footpegs on either side? i have seen photos of each downtube located on the inside and on the outside of the main frame. anyone know for sure which way is correct? Sound like a silly question I know! regards Dave

    Fantic 245

    My 245 only has one weight too - fits the outer circumference of the flywheel. I took it off to give some more zap from an ageing motor. It rattles like hell but is tough as a mountain goat. My forks are like yours too.

  23. i wonder if somebody could advise me on the best way to undo the flywheel nut on my fantic 245. The engine is out of the frame. It's extremely tight! Attempting to jam the sprocket didn't work. also, the rear shock is in poor condition - corrosion on the shaft etc. Is there an aftermarket alternative or a shock from another bike which will fit and do a half decent job? Thanks all
