  1. Thanks guys. Will get some ordered.
  2. Does anybody know where to get the paper numbers from that you stick on the front of your bike? I would imagine there must be one or two organisers on here who can point me in the right direction. Cheers.

    Kickstart

I need a kickstart for my M91 and have seen one on ebay for a 199 ( must be yours bondy). Does anyone know if the 199 one will fit the M91? Cheers
  5. I've dealt with Terry a few times. Forget email, texts and all that new fangled stuff and phone him instead. He's straightforward and easy to deal with and dead reliable. You don't get ripped off with postage either. All the gear I've had off him has been good. The only exception being his top selling kickstarts! Fine for trials bikes - the one on the B40 worked a treat - but the one on my 500 cheney bent when it kicked back, but that's at 11:1 compression ratio. I've now retarded the ignition a tad. Once bitten......
  6. Get it fitted! My nephew raced a stormer. When he fitted electronic ignition it transformed the bike. Easier starting, crisper pick up and smoother running throughout the rev range.

    Clutch Slip

The clutch on my M80 slips when I kick it over - not all the time but enough to make it a pain. When its running its not a problem. What's the best thing to do? Fit new plates or springs or both? Not cheap especially if I need a special tool to remove the pins. Any advice welcome. Cheers
  9. I think that's a very good point. Its up to the current generation of ageing pre 65 riders to encourage younger riders to have a go. Its easy to dismiss all young people as lazy wasters who don't want to work etc etc (yawn) but that ain't the case. I say stop being miserable old gits and encourage young blood. Without that, as I said earlier, pre 65 is dying a slow death.
  10. The same thing that happened to the British car and motorcycle industry! Wiped out by creative, inventive and talented foreign engineers, whilst the old gits who ran our industries stuck their heads in the sand.
  11. Excellent show. Well worth it.
  12. Like I said before - evolution. I wonder how many people will be riding cubs in a few years time?
  13. Is pre-65 dying a slow death? The same sort of thing is happening in pre-65 scrambling. Lots of meetings were cancelled last year due to lack of entries. The twinshock scene however is by comparison very healthy. Riders grow old and retire. The younger riders want to ride the bikes they rode in their youth - now likely to be twinshocks. Twinshocks are generally cheaper to buy and don't need lots of expensive trick bits to be competitive, so 'cheating' isn't an issue. You can ride a stock bike like you did back in the seventies. Perhaps trials is evolving in the same way. I've traded in the B40, bought a stock Bultaco and got two and half grand in change. Mind you I will need that to keep the CCM running......

How much are Magical rear shocks and front springs?

    petrol

Got the same problem. What's the best way of cleaning a carb that's been gummed up like this. Bog standard carb cleaner? Or is there something better?

    1980 248

Thanks for that. My pot hunting days are long gone. Just doing it for fun and to keep my hand in before the motocross season starts. Sounds like it might be worth a look at.

I'm considering buying a 1980 Cota 248. Are they any good? Cheers

    Carb for M80

Are you by any chance the guy with the M80 that was in Classic Dirtbike Mag a few years ago? I had a re-read of the article last night. Your bike does look good. Mine's not quite that good - I've still got to respray the tank/seat unit but I'm going to leave that for now because I want to ride it and see how I get on with it. Anyway back to the carb. Do I need to make sure that I buy a genuine Mikuni? Are there some repro ones like with the Amals?

    Carb for M80

If I fit a Mikuni will the rubber hose from carb to airbox still fit as well as the throttle cable? These are both new.

    Carb for M80

I'm eager to enter my first trial on the M80 I have rebuilt but what's putting me off is the fact that it's not easy to start. I don't want to turn up and not be able to start it and end up wasting time and money, not to mention the embarassment factor. It's had new seals, gaskets etc and the timing is accurate. The plug is getting wet ( I sometimes wonder if I am flooding it too much) and there is a decent spark. Occasionally it will start first kick but more often that not it either takes many many kicks or it just won't start. Once its warm it starts easily. It's got the original Amal 627 carb and I've cleaned the pilot jet etc. I am considering buying a new Amal 626. Is it worth fitting it with the air/choke slide? Will this make it easier to start? Or I am barking up the wrong tree? I'd rather not muck about fitting a different type of carb and I don't want to waste my money (Yorkshireman!) What do you reckon guys?

    spark plug

What plug is recommended for an M80? I did start it up first time ok on an NGK B7ES, because that's what I had in my garage. But now I can't start the b'stard. Is there a technique for starting them? I'm used to starting big 4 strokes, where there is very definitely a technique - but probably not right for a little 2 stroke. Any suggestions? There's plenty of petrol getting through.

    magneto casing

A well greased gasket works well. You can keep re-using for quite a while.

    Ignition timing

Must have got it right! Once I'd sorted out the carb it started easily. First time I've started a Bulto since 1978! Looking forward to riding it now but there are a few other jobs to finish off first. Thanks for the help.
