  1. Reckon it's a Montesa 349 Mark 4 (2 stroke) from, probably, 1981 or 1982. I've got one in red that was restored from a pile of bits. In 1983 I think they were branded as the MH349.
  2. Just a shot in the dark but has anyone got a replacement plastic boot strap for a Wulfsport trials boot (or put me onto a good place to get a replacement for the one I lost today!!). Any help - much appreciated.
  3. Restored 1982 Montesa 349 Mark 4 - pretty much original !
  4. Thanks for the info Mark but when you add the 43 Euros for shipping plus the cost of the stand at 39 Euros (Total of 82 Euros) it is too steep for me.
  5. Am on the hunt for a replacement side stand to fit a Montesa Cota 349 Mark 4 (1982) - any leads would be much appreciated.
  6. Had no luck getting a tank for a 1982 Montesa Cota 349 painted. Took it to a professional outfit who applied all the right treatments and paints but after a couple of months the paint lifted due to the plastic tank being porous to petrol vapours. Ended up with a tank that I rubbed down with various grades of wet and dry until I had a reasonable finish and then applied 'coloured' car wax. Applying this on a fairly frequent basis has kept the tank looking good with no problems with porosity.

    Montesa 349 Mk 4 project

Photos recording the progress made on 'doing up' a long abandoned Montesa Cota 349 Mk 4 from about 1982/3. This bike originally came out of the back of a barn as a bunch of tatty bits.

  10. Hi gbmoto Thanks for your reply to my query about footpegs for my Montesa Cota 349 Mk 4. I like the look of the S3 pegs you showed in your photo and I just wanted to make sure that you hadn't had to alter the brackets to take these pegs. I don't want to have to cut and weld and it looks as though the S3 that you use fit straight on to the original Montesa brackets.
  11. Am looking to fit my 1982 Montesa Cota 349 Mk 4 with some modern style wide footrests/footpegs. Can anyone recommend some footpegs with springs that will fit straight on to the bike with no mods required to the brackets? Many thanks.
  12. Looking to replace the Amal Mk1 carb on an early 70s Montesa 123.. Anyone got any suggestions as to a good reliable alternative? Many thanks.
  13. Am looking out for an airbox for a Montesa 123.. Does anyone know where I can get one of these or does anyone know of a suitable replacement that would fit the bike - the airbox for a Montesa 247 looks very similar. Are there any scooter airboxes or airboxes from small capacity bikes that would fit? Any help appreciated.

  15. Thanks for the info and for the tip about the kickstart shaft! I'll check it out and see where to go from there.
  16. Has anyone got (or knows where I can download) a manual for a Montesa Cota 172. My brother has managed to get his hands on a 'barn find' and is looking to do the thing up and get out on it for some events. Any help would be much appreciated.
  17. I have hunted high and low on the internet for the dimensions of a 5F21 jet needle for a Mikuni carb. but with no success. I have been to every Mikuni and associated website that I can find and just about every other needle (but the 5F21) is listed. Has anyone got the dimensions for this jet needle? Many thanks.

  20. Have previously posted a topic asking about the possible setup for a Mikuni carb. fitted to a 1982 Montesa Cota 349. On further investigation I am more confused than ever! It seems that the original spec for this carb. would have included a 5F21 needle and a 2.0 slide. The setup on my bike has a 5F3 needle with a 2.5 slide. Has anyone the knowhow to tell me what the effect of this change will have to the fuelling on my Montesa? All help much appreciated.

  22. 1982 Montesa Cota 349 Mk4 fitted with a Mikuni VM round slide carb. Has anyone got such a bike fitted with this carb. as I amm looking to find out what jets, jet needle, throttle valve settings work best as I am having a few problems getting the bike to run well. The bike starts first or second kick from cold and after a little while will idle nicely. up to 1/4 throttle seems good but after that I am having some problems. The carb. has been fitted with a 5F3 needle but most of the stuff on the internet seems to suggest that a 5F21 is the standard needle for this carb. Any help or advice much appreciated.
