  1. You shouldn't have to drain the tank after each ride if you use ethanol free fuel. Ethanol will turn your fiberglass to snot.
  2. I occasionally have to get off my bike and get on my son's 1265 (Sherco) to get him through/over/up something and it is a VERY different style of riding, often using lots of revs and dumping of the clutch. The 200's that I've ridden lately ('01 Sherco, '03 GG) wereMuch different than the 125. I guess they have a longer stroke motor and feel much more like a big bike. I understand the Beta 200 is excellent, as well. If I could have any bike, I'd go for one of the 200's. They haul me (190#) up anything I care to attempt and have very useable power giving great control in tight turns and slippery conditions.
  3. And...yeah...any dings in the tubes will cause leaking. I fill them with CYA (super glue) and sand the repair smooth.
  4. I drive them in with a piece of PVC the proper diameter. I also put the old seals on top of the new so I don't damage them. I've done dozens this way.
  5. Sneezing is bad. Couldn't say "choo" for 2 months. It went like this, "Ahhhh...AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHSHIIIIIIIT!"
  6. "The Bernie Book", although from the twin shock era, is still full of extremely useful information.
  7. I've seen plenty of problems with pressure and steam. They force water into places it shouldn't be. Better to live with a little grunge. Or break out the toothbrush.
  8. They worked fine on my bike. Repair books say that they can take some time to seat, and one should work the forks up and down to bed them in. I've never experienced this, but I suppose it's possible. How did you install them?
  9. All Sherco clutches stick together when they sit. But I've never dealt with one that's sat for 3 years. You might have to strip it. Best to back fill the brakes from the bleed nipple up with a syringe. If I just can't get it done, the last resort is to bleed the master itself by taking the line of, putting mu finger over the hole and pumping a few times. The pull the lever right in and re-attach the line.
  10. Yeah, Cope...what Glenn said! Cope's just jealous 'cause I'm younger 'n prettier than he is.
  11. Definitely the Enduro model. The owner moved away and left it in his parents' garage. I paid $400. Pretty psyched...I think that's the same as getting chuffed.
  12. I just found one of these so cheap I had to take it. Going to pick it up at lunchtime today because I don't want it to get away. Anybody have one? This one's a '97, which is the same model that went to about '04. I'll likely sort it out and give it to my son for Christmas.
  13. There is a putty made by one of the well-known companies (Loctite?) that is for sealing fuel tanks. Probably your best bet for keeping the plate sealed. I used some to fix a fiberglass tank and it's been holding.
  14. Don't bother truing the wheel. Trials bikes move so slowly you won't notice the wobble and you'll snap the spokes if you try to turn the nipples. Avoid pressure washing. It works water into places it doesn't belong. Nice bike! I've had a couple and they're fun. Even dependable once sorted out. If it has a second sparkplug hole, put a compression release in it for starting. If you wear out a kicker gear, you will not find one.
  15. Cool. Thanks. The insole on mine is leather. So far, they're very comfortable...but maybe that's just compared to my old ones...
  16. Not sure what keeps those inserts in there. I wonder if the tank is molded around them... Ryan would probably know.
  17. I use 5w30 right from the auto parts store. Cheap as chips. Change it often.
  18. Plug soot is a symptom, not a problem. You're asking the equivalent of what kind of pump you should buy for tyres that are always losing air.
  19. Some clutch rattle isn't uncommon on these bikes. If it goes away when you pull the lever, it's probably OK. But if you didn't have this before....? You sure you put oil in it?
  20. The worst thing about anti-seize is it gets EVERYWHERE. I used some on my sparkplugs one evening and 9 months later my son was born with a little dab of it on his forehead. That's a true story!
  21. Yeah...very hard on the foot bed. My son noticed immediately when he tried them on. He said his offroad/enduro boots have much better insoles. What do you recommend? I've never bought insoles.
  22. I'm starting to think that a 200 is the perfect bike for us mortals. The big guys may need the big motors for the big stuff, but we probably don't. I had an '03 200 Pro that was TOTALLY amazing...but only when it ran. I recently rode an as-new '01 Sherco 200 that was BRILLIANT, and I hear that the Beta 200 is, as well. For me, the 200 gives smoother power delivery without the big hit. Much better in the tight stuff and slippy stuff. I can do full lock turns all day on the 200 Sherco, but not so on my 2.9.
