  14. just want to tell you all the story of what happened to me tuesday night whilst practicing on my 06 sherco in suffolk. ever gone over the bars? i have many times but what happened this week must make me the unluckiest bugger on the plannet. i had been practicing all evening and was just about to make the decision to go home when i thought i would have one last go on a pile of wooden cable reals, the last real is laying on its side and you have to hop off with the front wheel up, this i did two or three times, but on the last time i didnt lift the front enough and over the bars i went. what happened next was freakish! the bike was balancing on its handlebars still ticking over with the backwheel high in the air i was just getting up to my knees, slowly the bike rotated about the stearing stem and the back wheel came down towards my head still turning! the rear tyre grabbed my face and pulled my entire head all the way round till my neck was jammed against the red hot silencer and my face was squashed into the rear tyre to such an extent that i couldnt see breath or scream! all i knew was that the pain was incredible and so was the panic. luckily others were there who quickly got the bike into neutral and reversed the wheel and got me out and then got me to hospital. this post is to thank those blokes personaly as without them i would not have been able to have seen my 3 week old son grow up and ride his first trials bike. so firstly thanks to James Newstead and Dave Cordle who got me out of the bike, (i hope you didnt burn your hands on the pipe Dave as i was told you were trying to get my neck away from the silencer) secondly thanks to James Williams who imediatly bundled me into his van and whisked me strait to hospital and thirdly thanks to Kevin Hood my riding and work buddy who took my van and bike home to look after and called my wife at the time of the accident and then came to the hospital to see how i was, also thanks to anyone one else who helped in anyway sorry if i dont know how i was a bit out of it also thanks to those that rang to see how i am. also sorry to any one who felt sick when they saw my smashed nose laying across my face. my injuries were, smashed nose, 3/4" gash from right tear duct to bridge of nose (5 stiches) face abrasions caused by the tyre 1st degree burns to the back of my head along with branding of the weld seam of the silencer into the skin. thank god i had my helmet on! heres a picy of how i am today and thanks again to everyone
  15. went practicing tuesday evening on my 06 290 and on first starting the bike noticed it wasnt running right seemed to be very lean and getting hot tried everthing whilst there including stripping carb change plug check tank is venting and adjusting mix screw but couldnt get it any better. at home i stripped the carb fully and blew it out with compressed air then removed the pipe and looked inside the barrel then removed flywheel and checked the stator hadnt moved or that the key hadnt sheared, all seemed perfect so the only thing left was to remove the reed block, imagine my suprise to find no sodding gasket between the block and crankcases! somehow it had sealed for the last 18 months metal to metal and with a dirty great void in the centre on the gasket face where the two halfs of the cases meet. obviously some spanish guy on the line was more interested in a siester than fitting the gasket! anyone else had this prob? and also check out your gasket if you have wierd running probs you cant pinpoint.
  16. take each collar off in turn and put a blob of silicon around it and replace, be sure to re loctite the bolt threads, when the silicon goes off the disc will still move but will be damped by the silicon and no more rattle!
  17. i use a peice of open cell foam in the top of the filter for muddy trials to stop large debris getting in and remove it for dry trials no glueing required. Chris wot the hell is that float bowl about, thought you were joking when you told me you were getting one! you should come practicing at raydon on a tuesday night, give david cordal a ring. its a good laf.
  18. you complete tart chris stop trying to compete with the daddy
  19. thanks mark not sure what pilot im running as havnt touched it from standard uk spec, seems to run fine. have orderd a new iridium spark plug NGK says 0.6mm (0.025") gap this sounds right to you?
  20. ok mark, i have moved the plate 3mm counterlockwise and started the bike, the tickover was much higher so screwed the tickover screw out till it was ticking over a bit slower but a bit lumpy then turned the "GAS" screw in 1/2 turn from 3 turns out and all is ticking over nicely, then read on RYP's site that the tickover should be slower after retarding the ignition? does what ive desribed sound right to you? cant try thr bike till sunday in the event, i have moved the plate the right way havnt i? (i stamped a mark where the centre of the top bolt is as stock and moved the plate till the bolt was between the new stamped mark and the stock stamped mark which is approx 3mm counterclockwise so it is the correct way i think!)
  21. thanks mark just what i wanted to hear will stick to 3mm
  22. ok how i know this topic has been thrashed about a few times already but just want to clarify how much you think i should retard the ignition, im a half decent intermediate rider with very little cartilidge in my right knee (easier starting is therfore a plus!) plus i like to ride the power right of the bottom, and have already fitted a slow throttle, have just removed the flywheel and was wondering if 6mm anticlockwise might kill it off too much? would 3mm be better, anyone else moved theres 3mm and noticed any difference or was 6mm needed, cheers all
  23. guard came from ecosse motocross about
