  1. Thanks everyone, really helpful, I'm normally in a rush to get a repair done, to get ready for the weekend but at the moment time is on my side.
  2. I have looked on eBay and there is one on there at the moment, its £85 but its off a 2006 txt so I didn't know if it would fit or not, also I think it needs a bearing, I expected to see more on there to be honest.
  3. Hi, my rear shock started to make a noise, the other day, when I was out riding, the bike is a 2013 txt pro, I had a look at it and found it had a crack at the bottom of the shock, where it connects to the bike, I can't seem to find anywhere online that does spare parts for them or even an online shop that sells them, any help would be great.
  4. I completely agree with the helmet rule and maybe it should be compulsory to wear boots and gloves, I simply wouldn't ride without any of them and there has been some really bad accidents to legs and hands because the rider didn't wear boots or gloves but that's on them at the end of the day. The biggest danger I have seen is in the actual sections themselves, simple things like part of the section running really close to barbed wire, end gates just a few feet from the next sections start gate, sending riders over fallen trees with broken branches sticking out of them, all things that can be easily avoided. I agree with, there should be a first aider at every trial, our club offered free places to any of our members who wanted to take a first aid course, I jumped at the chance, having seen some quite bad accidents, not just on Sundays but in the week when there is only a few of us their. Most of the trial meetings or practice grounds are not that easy to get to so having a first aider there until an ambulance arrives can make a big difference.
  5. Some time back, over two years ago, I had a 1999 Sherco and had the same problem, it just started doing it, id had the bike for around six months and the plug was fine but then it started to bog down and the plug would look the same as yours after just a few hours, the only thing I had recently done to the bike was change the oil but I used a different kind oil than I normally used, I changed the oil back to the oil I normally used and it solved the problem. I don't know what was going on with the other oil, I'm certainly no mechanic but it sorted my problem out and the bike ran fine after the oil change.
  6. The first thing I did was to go to YouTube and I did what the Jim Snell video said but no chance, iv had it socking in wd over night but still no joy, as far as being an expert, iv had the bike for almost two years and haven't had any problems with the kick start, clutch or cover in fact except for the normal wear and tear its never let me down, thanks for the replies everyone, iv gone as far as my limited skill will allow me, luckily a mechanic friend has offered to help me out, I think that would be the best way forward.
  7. i have been trying to get my kickstart off today but it will not budge, any suggestions would be very appreciated, the bike is 2013, thanks.
  8. Iv got a very small leek, it's coming from the clutch cover so I thought the first thing to try is the gasket, that's coming tomorrow so I decided to get my bike ready, I have tried to get the kick start off but it will not budge, is there any tips you could suggest, my bike is 2013, thanks.
  9. I know it's a bit of a long shot but a friends bike was over heating, he took the water pump cover off and the impeller was in bits, does anyone know if there will be a spares van at the Earl Shilton trial tomorrow.
  10. You need to find a small back street one man band tyre fitter, every town has one, the one i go to charges a fiver but i always give him ten, i went round most of the bigger companies first and they didn't want to know.
  11. i agree, iv just bought an Airoh and thought id made a mistake on the size, it seemed tight but after an hour i realised that it was just snug and it was my old helmet that was a loose fit, i can wear it all day and it doesn't feel like iv got it on, the vision is much better as well.
  12. I must be lucky, living in the midlands, I ride every weekend, knee deep in mud some of the times but I definitely learn more in the winter than I do in the summer.
  13. Welcome back Lee, you will probably find yourself traveling a lot more and further than you did 10 years ago, my club and practice ground is Earl Shilton which is an hour away from where I live. Manchester 17 and Macclesfield are both great clubs and both organise really good meetings, they both run an easy trial, which are great fun. You can join macclesfield for free online and they will send you the number you will need to have, to get your ACU licence, if you haven't already got it, also the best way to meet new friends is to go to a trial, you will soon get to know where people are practicing and when, even if you don't feel confident enough to enter the trial just go along and get chatting to the other riders.
  14. It's natural to be nervous, i don't calm down until iv done the first section but really there is nothing to be nervous about, i always get their at least an hour early and some times have a quick look at some of the sections but you will be walking them again when the trial starts so not to important, If you can, it would be better for you if you can go around with another rider but if your on your own and your not sure how to ride a section, just ask the other riders who are ridding the same route or ask the observer, it's a competitive sport but i don't know of another sport that your competitors are more than willing to help you out and give you sound advice, most important, don't forget why you are there, to enjoy your yourself, maybe if you let us know what trial you are doing, someone on here will be doing the same trial and will show you the ropes, or at least come and say hi, good luck for Sunday, have a great day.
  15. Iv not really had a problem with technique but slowly it would take more and more kicks to get my 250 pro to start, i changed the plug and made sure the gap was right and it was an instant cure, sometimes the spark can look quite good but it's not as strong as it should be, first kick most of the time, no more than two kicks every time and thats just standing with one foot on the ground, not leaning the bike on a tree or a wall.
  16. Nobody mentioned the mental aspect of the sport, that can really get in your way, i stood at one section, quite a while ago, to see how the other riders were going about it and one rider came a cropper, it was a really steep bank and it was raining so it was really slippy, i was all for doing it until the guy fell off and that was it, i bottled it, obviously the further you get in the sport, the harder the sections and more dangerous they become, I'm an over 50s rider and have been riding for less than two years so i have no illusions of doing the expert route but i have done some of the easier yellow routes this season and didn't do to bad, as long as i have a good day out with my friends and don't hurt myself to bad, i'm an happy man.

    Footpegs

Iv used hard rock for about 8 months and they are a good foot peg but it doesn't take long before the colour comes off, not that it matters much, they are wider than the standard pegs and have adjustable studs, they really are good pegs but i do agree, there are more important things to buy before new pegs.
  18. Are you going to Earl Shilton by any chance, i see your a member, if it is then your welcome to join us, if you do forget to take something chances are we will have it, except food and clothes, there's also a burger van their at most of the meetings. The most important thing is have a great day, don't be disappointed in your score, use it as goal, just try to beat it in the next trial you do.
  19. I have been running a business from home for quite a while but now i want to move it to a shop, it would be great if i could advertise my business on my shirt and riding pants, does anyone know where i can buy plane white shirts and pants so i could have my business name printed on them with my own logo, i suppose a compromise would be, plane yellow, or any light colour would be ok.
  20. Twice a week and now its lighter in the evening i do the occasional evening trial.
  21. Yes a perfect evening, totally enjoyed myself.
  22. If it's the same as my 2013 txt pro then just undo the pinch bolts, two each side, undo the cap as you said and then it should just knock through, turning the spindle from the other side will just turn the spindle but not really do anything.
  23. i was running my 2013 at about the same as you, until i went on a training day and he recommended 10ml per litre, my bike runs better and it's easy to remember.
  24. thanks telecat, the tyre is a x11 and you have jogged my memory even further, the chap at the shop said if we run them at less than 4 psi then it will damage the wall of the tyre, also i am now around eleven to eleven and a half stone which brings me to another point, how can we state an exact amount of psi when we are all diferent weight, one of my friends i ride with is now around the eighteen stone mark, so it wouldn't do for him to ride on the same psi as me, i think my skill level does have a lot to do with not getting enough grip but by dropping the psi yesterday i certainly noticed a difference.
  25. A few weeks ago, I went to a shop to buy a spare part for my 2013 gas gas, while waiting a chap was being served and he asked the shop keeper how much pressure should I have in the back tyre, the keeper replied at least four maybe four and a half so i said to the customer, I'm on three at the moment because iv just put a new Michelin on and the walls of the tyre seems much stiffer and i'm struggling to get grip, the keeper then replied if you can't get grip with four pound pressure then you are doing something wrong, i kept my tyre at around three and at a trial yesterday, a very good rider, doing the hard route said to me, i would let some air out of your back tyre, i told him it was on about three and he said well let some more out and guess what, it worked, i got better grip. I am very much a novice so I value any bits of knowledge or tips i can get hold off and i'm well aware of contridiction in the trial world but I would like to hear other peoples view on the subject.
