    Removing Ecu

Stupid question time .... How on earth do you remove the ECU from a 2013 onwards TR280 ( the ecu is mounted down by the cylinder ) . Do I need to remove the radiator first or am I missing something plainly obvious? Would like to make sure the plug is dry and fill with electrical grease but it's not nearly as simple as it first appears
  2. Think I might give it a go ... thanks for the info
  3. That looks really good ..... I assume it was quite a fiddly process? Hard to see what has been done at the headstock ..... was this a 13 bike and you left it black?
  4. How hard wearing is it though? Does it rip easily?
  5. Anyone had their TR frame powder coated? Will there be an issue with the heating process affecting the bonded parts? Not too keen on the frame colour of my 12 bike and fancy something a bit different. I assume the factory bikes with the white and green frames have been powder coated but just checking that assembly of the actual frame wasn't done afterwards. Any advice?
  6. Mine were tightened to 7 Nm .... no idea why ..... just felt tight enough.
  7. Jitsie switches are just branded Leonelli ones but the apico switches are different. In my opinion Jitsie/Leonelli feel better made with a stronger more positive contact. They are a few quid dearer. You can't use a apico magnet on a Leonelli switch as they have opposite polarities. We all have them fitted and they have served their purpose a good few times when ambition outweighed talent. Keeps the kids safer and the engine rebuilds are kept to the minimum
  8. Did you shock the bolts before trying to remove them? I just removed a transmission and must admit was VERY nervous about taking those 3 out that are behind the clutch basket. Was dreading stripping them but made sure I had a correct fitting tool and didn't have a problem. The ones I took out had been loctited and I did use blue loctite when re-installing them. Not sure why our UK bikes have allen/hex bolts and not torx. Just out of curiosity ..... just how tight are you torquing them up to?
  9. My youngest lad has just got into trials and he is 13. We started him on a 06 Gasgas 125 but changed to a Scorpa 125 ( 2 stroke ) recently as the gasgas was a pig to start. He managed the Gasgas no problem and misses it as it seemed to have a much lighter front end. He manages the easier trials but struggles with the weight of the bike on the rocky sections due to his lack of upper body strength. He is quite a wee lad too
  10. Hi Steve I believe the new owner is returning to trials after many years and does have experience in fettling bikes. As far as whats wrong with it .... We know the fan is operating properly as we ran it up to temp when he was viewing it. My lad has been riding it twice a week for 6 months with no issues so I am putting it down to co incidence and sod's law. I have advised him to check the waterpump but pretty confident all is ok there as a complete kit was fitted about a month ago. He is going to take the waterpump cover off turn the motor over by hand and check the impeller is turning as it should and there is no damage to it. I am going to get him new water pump seals for the sake of a couple of quid and yes you are right .... never mind checking the old valve I will just get him a new one and obviously new head o rings. I gave him the standard head too so think he is going to go with fitting that as everyone I have talked to say those high comp heads are more trouble than they are worth. Hopefully this will sort everything out
  11. No not the radiator cap. To fill the radiator there is a cap but it is basically just a bolt. There is a separate pressure relief valve just next to it. You can see the part here ... part 8
  12. I would think the bike was still on the same tank of fuel as when I sold him it. I filled the tank from the same mix of fuel my other lads 125 is running. If anything it would have been running a touch rich. Definitely not the cause. The bike does have a S3 high compression head on it though .... probably the culprit but would think the pressure relief valve would have shown symptoms before it failed totally
  13. Just sold a bike (Scorpa SR 125 with the sherco 125 2T motor and radiator etc) and unfortunately the head gasket has apparently blown on the fellas first time out on it. Surely the pressure relief valve should have let water/pressure out first shouldn't it? It blew a water pipe off then after putting it back on and filling with water it started chucking steam from the exhaust. I want to help with the bits to fix the bike and wondered if there is an easy way to test the pressure valve before I shell out for another?
  14. I also had a problem with a Jitsie lanyard. Sometimes it would work and other times it wouldn't. After having it replaced I took it to bits. Inside there is a little rubber washer which had a little crease in it ( must have been assembled wrong ). I took it out and gave it time to unfold and once done re assembled the thing at it worked perfect every time. Worth a try if you can't find your receipt or retailer doesn't want it back.
  15. Just for your information on that matter ..... It was myself, well my eldest lad that sold the gentleman that bike. The only reason he sold it was as he was moving to a bigger CC bike. As soon as we heard what had happened ( suspected head gasket) I sent him a message on the local forum offering to pay for any parts needed and also to carry out the work needed. We feel terrible about what happened and want to help in anyway we can.
