  1. I would measure the length of the spindle and the diameter, then check the Bultaco spares section at In Motion. I found a bultaco spindle to replace my Montesa one.
  2. Hi Alan, like you say the twin shocks are a good investment and if i were to sell the Cota 247 that is nearly finished i know that i would make a healthy profit, but that is not my intention. I plan to come along to the wobblers when the bike is finished and join the club, i spoke to a few of the members at the Dunfermline trial two weeks ago when i was seeing the lay of the land with Willie. Looking forward to seeing your bultaco when it is ready. Cheers John.
  3. To be honest i don't really need it as i have two montesa cota 247's on the go at the moment, one which is nearly finished and one that i still have to start!! I just like the look of the bultaco's but i think this one is to much of a gamble.
  4. The guy say's in his advert that it requires a piston, rings and a rebore, so not sure what the story is regarding the rest of the bike. That is why i am trying to find out as much information as possible as i do not fancy a mongrel of a bultaco.
  5. Thanks for that, i have only text messaged the guy to see if it was still for sale, so had not touched on price, great to know that i can get it for £200, he is around 50 miles from me. I have asked him if he could give me the frame/engine numbers to try and identify the model and he has responded and will get them at some point as the bike is in a garage not next to his home. What about the tank and seat, do you think that they are from the correct year? cheers John.
  6. Thanks woody, guy say's it is 370cc so may be had a rebore at some point, the seat looks like it might be off a different model?
  7. Where is it advertised for £200?, add that i have seen is looking for offers!
  8. Thanks bondy, waiting on the guy to come back to me as some one is looking at it tonight, so if it is still up for sale he will let me know.
  9. Thanks Mike, would that make it a 199 model?
  10. Not got that information just now, the guy thinks it's a 370cc so i was hoping that the pictures would help just now. cheers John.
  11. Looking at a Bultaco for sale locally, seller not clued up so can any one identify the model? Cheers John.
  12. I would check the average price that that model and year are selling for on a certain auction site. If you like the price which is always negotiable go for it, replace the wheel bearing and give the bike a service and replace the exhaust if it is affecting the running of the bike, if not just use it and enjoy it. cheers John.
  13. After fitting rear wheel with new tyre and sprocket I found that the wheel was not running true, spokes being 35 year old it did not look like a good bet that it would true up. So off to local wheel builder for a new set of spokes and nipples and a rebuild, good excuse to get the hub cleaned to match the spokes and the rim. Cheers John.
  14. Cheers yamanx, that is the shocks that i was looking at buying. I think you should knock up a few of these chain guards as i would thing you could sell them with no problem.
  15. Very tidy bike mate, what rear shocks do you have fitted? nice chain guard as well, is that a pattern one? Cheers John.
  16. Have a look at www.srmclassicbikes.com they skim hubs and re-line brakes etc, £48.00 from what i see. Cheers John.
  17. Thanks Steve, at a bit of a stand still my self, waiting on rear shocks, mudguards, paint job and a new seat also want to replace all the cables. Cheers John.
  18. Looks like you are doing fine mags, practice makes perfect. John.
  19. Hi Victor, welcome to the forum. There is a lot of great information on the forum regarding starting out and lots of information on the brands of bikes. First up you should try and find a trials club near you and perhaps go along and see what they do, they may be able to point you in the right direction regarding what bike may suit you. I would say that you should not go above 250cc until you are confident that you can handle the power, there is a bit of a difference with the power output of the bikes above 250cc. Two stroke bikes are usually cheaper to buy second hand than four strokes, as far as brands go i don't think there is any particular one to avoid, it is more a case of what you feel comfortable on. Good luck with the search, i am sure you will get all the help that you need on here. Cheers John.
  20. Been hard at it again today, engine back in and exhaust fitted, new oil and air filter, running lovely, sat the tank seat unit on it but it will be going to get painted soon.
  21. Welcome to the site racing71, Any thing up to 250cc, forget the 280's and 300's they will spit you off and chew you up! What about twin shock if you are over 40, a lot of older guy's including my self getting back into the trials with a nice twin shocker.
  22. I think you still have 5mm of travel there to use!
