  1. Yes - why? Till the revs started to rise then killed it. Hot enough outside to dry the rest (30++).
  2. Squeaking noise identified..... Ignition side cover is loose and flywheel is covered in dirt.... definitely the squeaking noise but don't have the puller.... any other way to get the flywheel off to clean up and check stator?
  3. Was worried that was the case.... dunno.... not sure but one way to find out.... ?
  4. Well I think I’ve found it and short of pulling the clutch cover off to discount that hypothesis I’m a bit worried now about the big ends.... Tried some oil directly into the plug hole and intake to the crank bearing.... definitely still there and coincides with top and bottom parts of the stroke. Barrel looks ok... crown fairly black, deffo rich, plug black/fouled, rings - blowbye on the first ring, second ring ok. What’s the recommendations now? Can you replace the main bearings and the rings? Or is this now a full top and bottom end job? Just bought a Lectron for my 300 EXC and a couple of hundred in parts for all the KTMs (inc Mrs bike)... if this gets expensive she could become stabby! Help!??
  5. Not had the clutch cover off since I bought it.... only things I can think of are: - Air boot came off carb not long after I got it... sucked in a lot of dust which I saw on the plug. After a clean up it’s run fine since. Over 1yr. - Been using 60:1 premix instead of 50:1 last few rides.... just been using leftover fuel from mixing up for the 300 KTM Bike is currently and engine and a frame just now anyway.... can see it in bits this weekend.
  6. Got full top end gasket kit just in case..... will do it and report back.
  7. Worth whipping the barrel off?
  8. Here's some pics for a laugh.... a bit of a chew to take the swing arm off..... Strip Down Home Made Drift
  9. Quick query just about to do this.... there's two pinch bolts on the back of the engine cases.... slacken pinch bolts, loosen swing arm pivot.... refitting it the opposite (pinch bolts last - just like fitting a front wheel?). Like everything else on this bike.... going to be a real fecker to get at..... And no.... I haven't been running about with the old one held on with cable ties....
  10. So the plot thickens a bit here..... sounds more like the engine.... have a look and let me know your thoughts: GG Squeaking 1 GG Squeaking 2 GG Squeaking 3 Just about to start stripping to replace the chain guard....
  11. As above.... moved house at the weekend so had the fun part of riding the bikes from villa to villa, GG as sat for couple of weeks after it was last used and fired up ok (as well as GG do!) after a couple of kicks... when it started running it was making squeaking noises however. Engine appeared to be running fine, no issues.... a bit concerned about the noise though. Seemed to be coming from low down, maybe the water pump? Cleared after a few minutes... will kick it over and try and get a video to check myself again. Last time it was out I pressure washed it (exhaust bung in) and run it afterwards till the float bowl was empty. Common issue? Or something sinister?
  12. It's like they say.... once you go there, you wont come back....
  13. I'd like to follow this... on the KTM Forum this is a bring the popcorn type thread.... but new to trials so genuinely interested. Offroad wide open stuff and sand/desert four stroke is preferred, enduro/woods most prefer two stroke... trials if both are tuned to run like a tug boat engine, is it as noticeable and more preference? The higher rev ceiling would make for easier climbing but you cant beat the light feel of a 2T. My mrs has 525XC KTM ATV and it devours big steep dunes in a way that even my 300 EXC cant match, 4T easy to jump on and go fast in the dunes... but where's fun in not hitting the power band and drifing it a bit?
  14. There's still a piece of my mate's leg left on the front pipe due to the latter....

    Top End Carnage

Could running 91 RON fuel instead of 95 or 97/98 RON blow a hole in the piston?
  16. Just coming back to this after a pay around yesterday... thinking the MT43's have less grip over the rocks, stones and pipeline plinths out the back of where I stay than the old knackered Michelin's that came off it.... am I being paranoid after a long-ish lay off and should just ride more? Not convinced they are soft enough for that sort of thing. Agreed on the influence of tyres.... I stuck some Dunlop GP Slicks on my old CBR600 and it's completely transformed the bike.
  17. I got a set of MT43's after I had ordered Michelin's (long story) they are quite hard compared to the old Michelin that came off, OK for rough and loamy ground but not getting the same bite on stones/rocks.
  18. The old barn door is a sizable thing.... where could it even be mounted safely? I got pulled once for small plate on my CBR600, wasn't excessive but my bike was 3-4 months too young for a single line registration (was only 6 digits from DVLA)... legal sizing and spacing was a few mm out either way anyway (it came with the bike) so a fine for that.... which wasn't.
  19. Welcome Rab! Murdo - cheers for that, was wondering where I could ride if I decide to come back home.... living in KA1 originally.
  20. Welcome to the forum.... being across several forums myself I've found this is definitely one of the better ones. Newish to trials also... be warned, it's addictive!
  21. Dougie Lampkin making an appearance too making it look like toffee as well.....
  22. Are all the 300's for sale because people are scared of them? I bought my 300 KTM which had only done 9.6hrs in a year or more... think the guy had looped it more than he was on it. Never ridden a 300 but came to trials a little over a year ago onto a 250 2T GG, for me it's plenty.... completes my holy trinity of 2T offroaders (200/250/300) Over 10yrs on the road on SS 600, over 5yrs offroad on 2T KTMs 200/300, 6ft & 15st.... only bought the 300 as I'm doing a lot of desert riding now and who wants to be seen on a 4T?!? Having seen my cousin who doesn't ride loop my mate's 250 Beta, I was wary of mine at first (it still can bite) but was used to the other two strokes so knew I could get my head round it.
  23. Table Top and rear wheel first or face plant = this video - watch and learn! Done that myself a few time bottling it coming down off a few higher table tops where I practice.
  24. I've been following their "how to ride observed trials" videos which has helped me with getting into trials..... watch, try, try, try, watch.... rinse repeat. Joining a club a better bet long term though, you'll learn much more.
  25. KTM trials bike would be an interesting proposition.... coming from Honda road bikes, to KTM enduro bikes and onto my first trials bike in the form of a Gas Gas (partly what was available here, partly fond memories of watching Raga on Eurosport doing the indoor events), I'd be glad to see a GG that comes with KTM style owners and workshop manuals (including excellent jetting tables), online parts fiche, easy access to dealers and spares all round the world, not having to wait months if you crack a rim... sounds great! Honda much the same... less upkeep, don't care if Toni Bou is riding one though, those big tractors don't excite me. Freeride gets mixed reviews on KTM forums but guess they are looking at it from an OE-blinged up Enduro/MX perspective.... watched a promo video of James Whittam and one of the Lowes brothers having a ball on them round some woodlands.... looked great. Think unfortunately the best new bike KTM could make has already been invented by Vertigo though?
