  1. A friend with a Sherco had this exact thing happen to him, and a 2 stroke revving hard enough and high enough doesn't need a spark, it can ignite off it's own exhaust gases as they leave the cylinder and the fresh mix comes in through the transfer port, I had this happen to me with my evo, I forgot to shut off the fuel tap, it must have rattled about on the trailer and flooded the engine cases with fuel, I started it up after washing it and it ran instantly flat out! kill switch = nothing, plug cap off = nothing still going flat out, after a little bit it burnt it all up and went back to normal.

  2. Get a syringe with a bit of pipe on it, try pushing fluid through the bleed nipple, make sure the master cylinder can fully travel to the off position, if the piston can't get fully off then it's possible the feed hole is covered by it. Might be the cylinder seals are shot.

  3. This happened to me in 1980, brand new TY175, the hex bolt head went through the case, the bike shop gave me a new kickstart shaft and case, apparently the internal stop had slipped around the shaft and allowed the kickstart to come back too far, bit of a warranty issue apparently. I would totally suggest getting that shaft out and getting a nice hot weld on the stop and shaft.

I do head bearings and linkage / swinging arm bearings once a month,  takes about an hour to do the lot. I've been caught out with GG front wheel spindles seizing before so now grease that regularly too.

Yes good policy, I only ride probably once or twice a month and I don't stress the bike really, I ride like an old granny.

  5. So, gearing, footpeg position, rake, tyres, small seat to allow body movement, suspension travel, suspension valving, handlebar position. when i started out in 1980 our club had loaners for the little kids, a few of those were XR75's they just tore around a bumpy track mostly getting the hang of just generally riding a bike, I feel you'd spend more money modifying a bike than just buying a good used one, look for Beta minitrial or ty80's.

Many  inspectors insist on a reflector as well, even for a daylight mot. Also fit a legal size number plate. Tyres should be own up to 20psi, directional arrows can be picked up on, as can cuts in sidewalls.

No requirement for a reflector if you have no lights.

Correct me if I am wrong, but a speedometer is not required for MOT but is required for use on the road.

Yes, I think that's correct, I rarely ride mine on the road, but I have a quickly detachable self contained horn unit and a GPS speedo in case of police scrutiny, my number plate is a bit small but around here they tend to just tell you to get it changed.

Hi all I’m Scott and from Kent UK . For many years I’ve fancied a go at riding trials but never done anything about it. So now I’ve decided I’m going to see if I can find somewhere local to go and spectate and probably end up buying my first bike .

Hiya, also from Kent here and a member of the Bexleyheath club, once a month the club do an intro day, you can hire a bike and get some tuition as well, there's several venues to ride at, find out more at motorcycle trials introduction days in kent. http://motorcycle trials introduction days in kent.

  9. A lot of colour change is from clutch debris and dust, the oil itself is probably still quite good when changed, on cars some of the gear oils stay in for the life of the vehicle. personally I keep an eye on it through the level window, when it's dark I change it, I am a big Putoline Nano trans fan.

  10. I would just replace that basket, if you fail to remove exactly the same amount on each slot the plates will be unsupported on some of their drive tangs, this might lead to other issues.

  11. Might just be stuck up with non use and thick oil, put it in top gear by rocking back and forwards and pulling the lever up through the gears then try rocking it back and forth with the clutch pulled in ( engine off btw)

  12. Again 403, not a bike model, however it is stamped on the frame apparently on a 301 model? this is just googling to get this and not neccasarily correct. here is a pic of a 301

  13. You got options to move them up or down a bit to alter the way the bikes steering and weight feels (if anyone was that sensitive, not sure I'd notice a difference), because one fork is spring and one is damping they don't sit at the same heights when off the bike, just undo the clamps and make them equal heights.
