Stan Peel is the man who knows every farmer in Nidderdale and Wharfedale. The former rally driver and sporting car trials ace has been involved in the organisation of the trial when it was an Ilkley Motor Club event, before it was transferred to the Airedale & Pennine Motor Club. Barry Robinson was bike C of C when the late Peter Colman ran it for Ilkley Motor Club, and is now the Press Officer. Alan Forest is the owner of the motorcycle engined buggy in which Stan Peel opens the course, through every section enroute. Believe me it flew up Watergate at 08.00 on Sunday morning as if it were tarmac. Stan and John Bell are the driving forces. John is an absolute stickler for everything being totally right - which resulted in a virtually perfect enjoyable day for an ever increasing, year on year, classic motorcycle entry - forty-nine this year round the 80-mile course.......full photoreport in ORRe. Two businessmen in the centre Hay Street Were sitting down for a break in their soon-to-be new shop... As yet, the shop wasn't ready, with only a few shelves set up. One said to the other, "I bet any minute now some old pensioner is going to walk by, put their face to the window, and ask what we're selling." "You know these senior citizens are such nosy parkers" No sooner were the words out of his mouth when, sure enough, a curious old woman walked to the window, had a peek, and in a soft voice asked, "What are you selling here?" One of the men replied sarcastically, "We're selling a***-holes." Without skipping a beat, the old dear said, “Must be doing well then... only two left."

It has been an 'easy' winter this year, wet and miserable rather than freezing hard - so the midges are out and about already this year. There are dozens of very expensive anti-midge sprays, etc... but they don't always meet their advertised claims. However, if you are prepared - there is another way to ward the little buggers off. Boots the chemist sell cheap bottles of their own 'Eau de Colgne' - not the fancy 4711-type stuff, just the big old cheap bottle of their own concoction - but splash a little in the palm of your hand and just rub it in any exposed bits of skin and most people will be midge-free all day - and there is a Boots in Fort William! Our last bottle is on its third year now - and it cost well under a quid.....

During the a recent visit to the Isle of Man, Terry Crabtree, popular East Midlands and Mansfield Maun organiser, suffered a debilitating Heart Attack which forced a hurried change of plans which saw daughter Karen (sidecar passenger to championship contender Chris Dellow) driving him back to a hospital nearer their home. No sooner had Terry seemed to be on his way to recovering his life style than a second malady struck with a blocked intestinal organ, resulting in an urgent return to Kingsmill Hospital where a significant emergency operation was performed. Terry's lifestyle is now significantly changed, unable to walk or drive, he is confined to a wheelchair - but with daughter Karen driving is currently in the highlands, determined to meet old friends and watch some SSDT action. With Karen piloting the wheelchair the plan is to visit at least one section every day - so if you see the gallant team in action, please, please offer your very best pushing power to help this fine sportsman continue to enjoy the sport that he has spent a major part of his life providing for others.

The Westmorland Motor Club are proud to be involved in the creation of the Nostalgia Bultaco Revival trial on 17th June, with Guest of Honour Yrjo Vesterinen. When Alan Lampkin heard he checked his own Bultaco, dormant in the shed for three decades, and with a gurgle of fresh fuel it fired up after just a few kicks - but all the bearings were dry and it had a naughty rattle, a mention to Peter Remington and out came the magic spanners and the bike was soon much more like her old self and ready to ride. That set the Lampkin family thinking so James will be riding the bike under a Lampkin banner, which anybody can join by calling 07761 073368 to donate 100% to Cancer Care Research in memory of sadly missed Martin. A worth while venture in remembrance of a fine sportsman - you don’t need to ride to donate! I have added images of that fine sportsman, sadly missed, Martin Lampkin as well as the Guest of Honour, Yrjo Vesterinen, each riding their Bultacos.

Scott Trial Presentation Evening was held at The Buck In, Reeth, on April 7/2017.The Scott trial charity donations were handed out to many local recipients. The evening began withTreasurer Richard Hague giving a brief history of the Scott trial from its first running in 1914 up to its present day. Richmond Motor Club President Nigel Cummins then presented the cheques to the various local charities. Some of the recipients explained how the money would be spent. A grand total of£10,975.00 was given out this year, which included £3,475 that was raised bya Charity Team at the trial to be donated to The Mark Adams Trust. This latest addition brings the total to over £160,000 since Richmond Motor Clubtook running of the Scott Trial in 1991. The Richmond Motor Club thank allwho helped and sponsor the trial, far too numerous to mention, and thoughtsnow turn to this year’s trial, where the collecting will continue! An excellentbuffet then followed and one recipient of a cheque even had a sit on abike!!!! WASHINGTON — The Pentagon announced Tuesday it had awarded a sole-source contract to United Airlines for work related to the forcible removal of President Bashar al-Assad from Syria. The contract, worth $2.1 billion, tasks the airline company with locating Assad, grabbing him from his seat in the presidential palace, and “dragging him out of Damascus by his arms.” The contract also notes that Assad should be “asked several times, politely” to give up his seat of power, though if he refuses, United workers should bloody his nose up a bit, according to the posting at FedBizOpps.

The Airedale & Pennine Motor Car Club Ltd are promoting the Yorkshire Dales Classic Trial on the 7th May. Starting and finishing in Pateley Bridge the long distance trial caters for cars and motorcycles and utilises some famous old venues in the Dales, like Watergate, used in the early days of the Scott trial. The event attracts enthusiasts from the whole of Britain much in the way of the old Exeter and Lands End trials in years gone by. Attached are regs and entry forms in pdf format as well as a Map of the route.
