I was unable to get a decent front brake on my 1997 JTR GG until I rode for 5 mins with the brake applied then quenched the disc and caliper with water. Brake now ok. Why did this work and is it a permanent fix?

Brakes
After aplying copaslipping to the back of the brake pads (front and rear) on riding the bike their efficiency was reduced by about 50%. No grease was on the pads or discs. The front brake would not even lock the wheel when the bike was pushed. I then tried the trick of riding the bike with the brake applied for 5 mins then sprayed cold water onthe disc and pads. The brake is now good. WHY does this work and WILL the brake remain good.

280 Pro Flywheel Torque
I have to replace the woodruff key between the flywheel and crank on my 2004 280 pro as it has sheared. Does anyone know the correct tightening torque of the securing nut? The engine has a flywheel weight fitted. Also, I have been advised to lap the flywheel and crankshaft together with course grinding paste and a little WD 40. Any thoughts on this?
