  1. Thank you Totalshell, it´s spaced indeed.
  2. Hi Tony: Thanks, I had a look to your blog, nice Cub you are building, I presume the Royal Enfield comes heavier every year... I practice with a T90 Twin last year, but it´s too heavy for me, so I am actually preparing this James for next season although it´s not light at all, around 100 kilos with that very heavy frame, hubs and yokes.
  3. In fact I fixed them. The bike did not had and chain came off quite frecuently.
  4. I need to identify this rear hub and sprocket from my new project. It looks a Triumph to me but not sure, actually it´s in a old James, a quite original bike. Any idea? Thanks for the help.
  5. Thanks OTF; I had a very good time shared with the super champion Sandra. She just lost 10 marks on Saturday, and it was her first time on a Cub, didn´t even practice with it before the trial. I am sure she will be gold medal award next year !!!! Brilliant trial this year again with the best of the Scottish weather. 6 pilots (3 from Spain, 2 French and 2 British) were excluded in the technical check just before the start !!!! Imagine their faces when they took their number away just 20 metres away from the start !!!! At last they could race in a no points, no award basis, but it looks next years excluded will not be allowed to start, so it looks we must be very carefull when filling the entry form !!!
  6. Hi, just returned from Scotland were I have been racing the pre65. Brilliant trial !!!! The jets I have in my bike are: Pilot jet - 25. Main jet - 160. Needle jet - 106. Slide - 3. Needle - middle position. It is true the position in too forward; but the thing is it has a big gap between where the kickstart starts it action and where it is in the pic. I will need to check it.
  7. I think 11 / 44 will make it too slow, maybe for a real newcomer to trials... but aniway my advice Paul is just try the bike with the 11 / 44 as you are allways on time to order the 41 or 42 sprocket as it is so easy to change. Although I am sure first gear will be too slow with 11/44 and will not push enough when you need some speed in 1st gear.
  8. I got confused by the title of your post Paul, I thought it was a 198 and if yours have an alloy bashplate it must be a 198A; the original sprockets must be then 11 / 39 but I recommend you there 11 / 41 or 11 / 42. The result is the same, just they changed it when Bultaco changed the model. Some time ago I posted about the same here in TC. Model 198 and 199 Standard = 13 / 46 I recommend for clubman´s pilots 13 / 48 Model 198a, 198b, 199a and 198b = 11 / 39 I recommend for clubman´s pilots 11 / 41 Although the result is the same, you can go 13 / 48 also.
  9. Paul I have exactly that model 198 - 250cc. and 13 / 48 is what I use and recommend you.
  10. I am quite close to this opinion; I think trials need variety in all it´s aspects to stay healthy and to be a rich sport and not self-close on a single mode. Trials need modern and classic trials; stop trials and non-stop trials; two stroke, four stroke and why not also electric bikes; original and tuned bikes. This of course includes trials designed to and for all of the bikes and to and for all level of pilots.
  11. Thanks for your words Chris: - The elctronic ignition is one that uses a converter and the old low voltage coil. Can´t remember the company that makes it, but if you are interested send me a PM and I will look it for you. I have it in my 1971 model also and it works really good. The improvement is all about reliability; the bike allways start and humidity is not a problem any more !!! - The footpegs are strictly the origin ones, that were in this bike but in the last ones of the series (with the small hubs), completely original. Are the same ones but with a small plate welded !!! - Of course in the inside of the tank I put a product to seal it that also protects it against ethanol.
  12. Here´s how the bike is 3 months later. Still not 100% finished as I am working to fix a chain tensioner as this model did not have it. The engine had to be rebored, new piston, clutch, bearings, seals, primary chain, electronic ignition... big work, but I am quite happy with it. Now it´s not going to be easy to take it to the close river rocks to test it...
  13. Hi Mike: I got my letter this week and have been fortunate with a ride in the pre65 class. It will be my second ride there, it is really a superb classic trial !!!
  14. I know that bike. It worths that money, it is a 198B fully restored and prepared for competition and equiped with all the best parts available.
  15. Find your model here, clean it inside specially the hidraulics (use a good cleaner here), put new seals and it the bars are not bent it will work smoothly. Maybe you can try with different preloads and oils density untill you find the ones you like more, but first try the originals:
  16. Thats a very good price for that bike. (If the bike is complete, not too bad and a real 198B...)
  17. Hi Triple_X. I think Montesa Cota 247 models Mk1 & 2 are one of the nicest trials bikes ever. Mine is still in bits. Only the frame blasted and painted in white is ready. Working slowly with the rest. This are the links to the pages about Mk1 & 2 in Montesa Web. http://www.montesawe...lles.aspx?id=61 http://www.montesawe...lles.aspx?id=66 this are the differences between models: http://www.montesawe...on.aspx?id=c247 This is the original catalogue printed in Spain for the Mk1 model.
  18. Go 11 /41 much better control in the sections !!!!!
  19. That is correct sherpa325 !!!! It is more complicated even, as: For 198/199 and 198A/199A & 198B = 0,223 / 0,287 / 0,376 / 0,612 / 1 For 199B = 0,223 / 0,287 / 0,361 / 0,512 / 0,739 / 1 I just thought it was more simple to understand to put it like this: Original for 199 is 13 / 46 if you want more control in the sections go to 13/48 or even slower 12/46 changing front or rear. Original for 199a and 199b is 11 / 39 the same !!!!
  20. ATTENTION: Sprockets for 199 model are diferent that for 199a and 199B !!!!! The one I use 13 / 48 or the alternative lower 12 / 46 are good for 199 model, NOT for 199a and 199b gear box is not the same. Original for 199 is 13 / 46 Original for 199a and 199b is 11 / 39
  21. I use 13 / 48 in my 199 bike, it´s perfect for me. You can also go 12 / 46 if you are not a very good rider.
  22. I´ll be there !!! ..."The Friendliest Classic Trial in Scotland"
  23. Former bike, but yes, it´s a small world, isn´t it?
  24. This is the only part in which I honestly and friendly disagree with you Dave. I don´t think Scotland´s pre65 trial is the drive of the specification. It is just one trial compared to the hundreds of classic and pre65 trials that are arranged in UK and outside your borders every weekend, full of different categories (experts, clubmans, pre units, units, two or four strokes, rigids, pre72, pre77, pre80...) trials were so many people want to be the winner and arrive home with a cup. In Scotland just one can do so... The Scottish pre65 is THE pilgrimage site for trials riders worlwide. And the most important thing is that I honestly belive that whoever works and arranges for a trial is/are the one/ones that must decide freely about their event, with no conditions at all, specially coming from sponsors. That is why I posted when I opened this topic about leaving apart the Scottish pre65. As I consider you my friend, and for your information (now that nobody can hear me), let me tell you that the James in the pic you attached WAS actually my James (exactly that one bought to a known rider that use to sing country..). And I say was because I just sold it and bought a new "weapon" (a different James) much more like that FB you show there, not finished yet, as I am looking for the proper tank as you can see in the TC Wanted adverts. Personal choice of course.
  25. Hi John: Nice to read you in this topic. Nobody in my country wants to listen to what I say about modified and tuned bikes, I have a lot of information about bikes modifications, rules etc. achieved out of so many persons and clubs in the UK and France I have talked about this topic in the past years, and also what is posted in this interesting TC forum topic. It is quite funny to realize that we in Spain are now making exactly the same mistakes you British did in the past with the classic bikes. RFME had very simple rules for classic bikes, that can be resumed in "YOU CAN NOT USE COMPONENTS OF MORE MODERN BIKES THAN THE CATEGORY YOUR BIKE RACES IN" (with some exceptions as handlebars, plastics, shocks...), (for example post72 engines in pre72 bikes, modern forks in classic bikes etc. etc.). easy to comply but they have been never enforced them, and you could see really "modern classics" in Spanish trials. But very funny to know RFME is working actually in new rules, we are waiting for them as it looks there are almost ready, but it looks they are much harder. I think exactly as you do John, it will be a waist of time, effort, money and will gonna loose the good humor to kore than one pilot and trial official. I will of course post here the new rules as soon as they are published, it will be good to know new opinions.
