  1. Okay chaps.... Given some spare time (mature student benefits and all!!)......I'm planning to get back on a bike after about 2 years out....(a recurring theme...prob the 5th time I've come back to it!!)... Currently have a 04' 315 in storage which has done nowt.....but, fancy a change of steed since I'm getting back in to it.... Overall theme is that I fancy something lighter, bit more chuckable or maybe a bit smaller cc wise.... Owned Gasser's before and always found them to be built for purpose/price....didn't wear too well..(the 200 was a great blast though!!)....never got my leg over a Sherco....and the last Beta I owned was a TR34 (great bike it was too!!).... How are things looking at the moment in the 06 - 08 used market? Do Gassers still fall to pieces and Sherco's loose relatively quickly? Are Beta's pretty solid still and quite smooth on the power delivery? Weight wise - does the Pro still come in the lightest? Great to hear some info on this stuff?? Cheers
  2. Howdy, South Nottingham.... Cheers....think I rode a trial there about 2 years ago......! Hoping!! that they'll be somewhere a little nearer too!!
  3. Does anybody have any ideas on riding areas around the East Midlands? Practise grounds or friendly areas? Recently moved to a new area and have no ideas on where to get out locally really...!! Cheers
  4. Hello, Looking at getting back on the bike after about 2 years!! In the meantime, I've had the Vivaro converted to a campervan so no room inside any longer!! Considering options for either a bike rack (used to use a Kliponoff years ago!!) or maybe a light, single trailer...... Any recommendations on what's out there nowadays? ta
  5. Hello! Well, sounds like somebody with exactly the same issue that I have....!!....do you get a dry or wet plug foul? I've had the stator re-done on the advice of Sandifords, tried running it with no air filter or rear mudguard....etc etc.....did find that it ran a bit longer on the Iridium plug though!!...looked at air leaks, jets, mixture etc etc.......the only other item maybe could be the coil....BUT, I'm getting a great spark!!....and , no mis-firing until the plug fouls and the engine dies... The bad news is that short of taking it in to Geoff I still can't the damned thing to run for more than about 15 - 20 mins!! In fact, I haven't had a chance to touch the blinkin thing in about 6 months but did plan to have another shot at it over this w'end!! Perhaps, the only difference we have is that I'm running the standard carb (whatever comes on a 2004 315?) but with the competition jetting....? Be really useful to stay in contact on this one and see if we can sort it between us!!...... Needle position is currently in the middle position - but, not sure how to measure float heights though!! Help is the word that springs to mind!!
  6. Howdy chaps, Well - it's been over 2 years since I've managed to get out on it so it's time to sell!! Haven't really kept an eye on bike prices for a long while so don't really know what sort of prices bikes are bringing....?? Any suggestions? It's a 2004 315r.......immaculate.....few little anodised bits and it's done nowt........prob about 10 trials in it's life!! Be good to get some idea on what I should be asking for it!! Cheers....
  7. Hey Guys, Currently marking out our van for a weekend/camper conversion...to carry 1 trials bike.... Problem is - my bike is in various bits, 300 miles away!!! Could do with some basic dimensions if anybody is anywhere near a bike!!! Length Max Height Max width (not bars) Rear mudguard highest point I know bikes vary slightly...but, just some rough dimensions would be a great help. Cheers,
  8. Hello All, Has anybody got any experience of problems with the electrics on later 315's? I've got an 04 that has done nowt, but whenever it gets warm the plug just fouls and it cuts out..!! I've checked everything you'd consider and still it has this issue....I'm starting to wonder whether it may be a sparking issue? Any suggestions greatly received!! Thanks,
  9. Howdy, I've been waiting on one of these on back-order for months... Does anybody know anywhere that might have them on stock? - shop wise? Thanks
  10. I had the same selection problem.. Went for the Jitsie ones and they've been bombproof.....nice platform, good quality and plenty of grip from the grub screws...however, be aware that the stainless teeth are not removable I don't think....I haven't tried but there doesn't seem to be any access to unscrew them...
  11. ...quite a few of the guys in the Downhill mtb world use this guy: MFX Air Art Allan comes highly recommended, does some fantastic detailing work and is far more competitively priced than the other couple of helmet specialists. The other bonus is his lead time - you don't have to wait 2 months to get your lid in! Drop him a line and let him know the guys from Ticket2ride sent you in his direction...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at just what can be done for a good price... ...enjoy....
  12. ...still have this carbon plug foul/misfire/crap running issue...after about 15 minutes of riding from cold.... ..have tried/looked at/checked the following... Carb: cleaned, checked jets, floats, choke, needle, mixture screw, slide, cable routing Air filter: removed, de-oiled, ran without filter (still cokes up, but will idle when not under load), Rear Mudguard: took mesh off holes Electrics: cleaned and checked all the connections between coil and CDI Stator: removed cover, cleaned, checked connections Plug: tried 6 new plugs incl. NGK iridium version (all plugs correct BR6ES spec) Also - checked spark of plugs when resting outside the barrel and kicking over....okay spark there... ..anybody have any further ideas before I commit to a stator/coil/CDI weeks wage packet combination set out of sheer desperation? I used to have a full head of hair..! agghhh
  13. ..planning on heading to the Pegasus trial this weekend but have never ventured that way before.. Anybody have the location/direction details for the Castle Bytham venue? ..what sort of going can I expect too? Thanks....
  14. ...thanks for the idea... ..I've checked that - made sure the slider wasn't worn and the spring was clean/slightly lubed... ...also checked the float level.... ...this is panning out to be a head scratcher!!
  15. ..what sort of symptoms did you get from the failing stators? ...anything specific - cutting out when warm or something sporadic?
  16. okay.... I've taken the air filter out, and ran the bike for about 10 minutes on idle...blipping the throttle to get it warmer... After about 10 mins, it started to die - so I increased the tickover a bit and it was okay again.... Took the plug out - black oily residue on plug end....quite a covering but not dry... Should the plug have been try from running too lean? Took the carb off, checked the floats/pin - all good....took bowl off and moved floats manually...petrol flow okay.... ...any thought on the next test to consider?
  17. Has anybody got any experience of electrical faults on later 315's.... ...what sort of running problems did you have and what was the electrical causation? ...thanks...
  18. ...could it also be the plug too though? ..about the same time the engine gets hot, the plug gets badly fouled, which causes the running issues? ....
  19. needle and seat? I'm not too sure what you mean by that? The carb slide is travelling fully - needle moving down as it should....needle clip position is 2nd up from the bottom...as recommended by the guys at Sandifords.... I'll have a look at the float movement too - make sure there are no restrictions..... I hope it's not an electrical fault - although, I have heard about some CDI/coil/stator problems on the 315.... This ones a 2004 and has done nothing at all really....but, you never know with electrical components!! Thanks...
  20. ..thanks for the reply greeves, ...the bike tends to fire up from cold first kick, no problems.... ..it then runs well, idle's and warms up no problems.... ..after about 20 - 30mins it starts to loose it's idle, cutting out when off the throttle. Shortly after, it starts to run erratically, misfires a bit, bogs down a bit off the bottom, becomes a bit poppy...still not idling all this time...when it cuts out, it starts again on about the 2nd kick, but just about fires into life... At this point - I've been changing the plug for a new one, it runs okay again for a short while, then, the same symptoms arise and it's new plug time again! Interestingly - I thought at one point the air screw was too far in, so I wound it out quite a bit.....the effects were expected in that the bike (as well as the misfires etc) started to run a bit zingy (too lean a mixture) with open throttle...leading to the conclusion as advised that the current jet/air screw settings are correct.... so, my current mindset is a low rpm sparking problem? checking another new plug last night, when kicking over showed a good strong spark, but....who knows how the spark is when the engine is running at low rpm... ...thanks for the adivce Cadman.... ..the BR5ES - that's a slightly hotter plug isn't it? I'll give that a try later... Over oiled the filter?....interesting.....I do put a bit of oil on and squeeze it in a little.....not too much mind..... What size plug gap do you run with?.....0.7? I've also meshed off the holes in the mudguard, but there's still plenty of airflow through there... Scratching my head a lot at the moment.....definitely seems to be a low rpm thing....
  21. ..as somebody pointed out - this poses the question of both age and nostalgia....! ...I'm not sure why - but there was something special about early 1989... I remember riding as a youth on a TY80, generally minding my own business, warming up and trying to get the blasted thing over a fallen tree at a local trial, when somebody pulled up with this crazy looking bright orange and white space bike, complete with pointy mudguards and a bandaid for a seat...!! Everybody else at the time were either riding TY250's or earlier Fantics which all looked a bit samey, then....the Fantic 245 arrived..... For me - at the time, this was by a country mile a beauty...!! ..the Honda TLM 260 wasn't a bad looking bike in 89 either....!
  22. Hello, Yes - bascially, when removing the plug the electrode, threaded area etc is completely black - not wet oil residue from an incorrect mixture but very dry and sooty, 100% covered infact! Aparently, such plug fouling is referred to as dry fouling or Carbon fouling and is caused by the mixutre running too rich... As the mxiture/jetting is how it's supposed to be, and we can't find an air flow blockage...we're starting to consider a spark issue....weak ignition... Difficulty is knowing whether to start at the coil, stator or CDI.....and how to test each!!
  23. ...cheers.... ...it's a 2004 315 - so CDI..! I've opened the plug gap a bit and there's a fair spark there when I kick it over....I leave the plug in and rest it against the cylinder head I'm trying to narrow down the plug foul issue - thought it may be a stator/coil problem... so far, I've checked the following: air leaks carb cleanliness, jetting, kill switch stator condition / water behind flywheel cover Everything seems okay - it's just dry fouling plugs after about 30mins of use, then starting to misfire due to the plugs being so badly fouled.... Any other ideas?
  24. Can anybody suggest what sort of spark I should be looking for when manually turning over? I'm trying to figure if there could be an electrical issue with the coil/stator pack... When pushing slowly with the kickstart - we don't get any spark?...when we push a bit quicker a spark starts to appear.....it's not hugely bright but there's something there? Should we be getting a strong spark even when pushing slowly though the stroke?
  25. Hey, Yep - running the recommended BPR6ES.... I'm wondering whether it could be the pilot jet....it's running a 36 and 108 main... Standard is a 33 - although, some folk do use a 35.....with me spending most of the time in low throttle positions, maybe I'm choking it up a bit..well, a lot!! .....?
