  1. Chaps, It's that one time a year again when I dust the Beta off and try to get out for a trial or two! Can't seem to find a copy of TMX locally so looking for some info on localish evening trials? Any pointers? Cheers, Scott

    2011 Evo 125

Guys, Any rider views/comments on the new Evo 125? Just looking at getting back on the bike again, currently have an 09.....but, looks like there have been quite a few changes to the 2011? Cheers.
  3. Hello, Well, we're still not the wiser... All readings seem to be where they need to be at the moment... But, taking the flywheel cover off revealed a whole world of dirt and rusty water pain! We're going to clean it up and see where we are after that.....
  4. Thanks all, Stork - really appreciate your time on this.... I'll hopefully have a look later this evening and see what I can find........electrics are a bit of a grey one for me but will see what happens!! Loads of comments on the rear brake too.....the caliper pistons do have a short throw....but, I'm wondering whether it's the master cylinder piston that is a little sticky as a first port of call....I did have to push the caliper pistons back to get the pads in initially and they seemed reasonably loose......the bike has only done around 10 hrs in total too so I wouldn't expect too much crap on the seals..... I'll report back when/if I have any joy!?!??!!
  5. thedee.... thanks for the brake advice chat....I'll speak to Lampkins tomorrow and get one ordered....! Re. the float jet/card - which part do you mean?.....although, it's an electrical fault this time, I did/do have a bogging issue too...!! http://www.sudco.com/Diagrams123/exppwk.gif Is the exploded view of the PWK......which part do you mean?
  6. ....thanks chaps.... tried to isolate the kill switch.....it's a yam one and didn't make any difference... There's just absolutely nothing there....spark wise.... Checked for that spring and it's all as should be.....it feels like the piston in the cylinder isn't moving very far or returning....
  7. Chaps, What a nightmare day! Firstly, the rear brake locks on when it warms up!! (it wasn't working too well so threw new pads in, now thinking it's a cylinder thing as there isn't much piston/pad movement either!!)... So, loosened the brake off completely...next section, mid way through....engine dies! Tried new plug - no joy... Checked again, no spark at all!! Any thoughts/experiences on this before I go for the guessing game!! Are there any known issues with the stator on the Evo's? Or, any other electrical gremlins? Was working fine prior, no performance issues at all.... AAggggghhhhh
  8. I've got an 09 Evo and am also struggling with the fork settings! At 11 stone (plus a few pies!) I'm finding the forks a bit stiff through the mid-travel? Ride height is okay with no pre-load and the forks seem to be reasonably progressive at the end-stroke...but do seem to get a bit stiffer in the mid-stroke..... Wondering about swapping out one of the leg oils to 2.5wt and playing with the pre-load a tad more....
  9. Chaps, Looking for recommendations on gearbox oil type and rear brake pad options? Any suggestions? Cheers
  10. Chaps, Heading out tomorrow for the first time in 6 odd months. Looks like there are 3 reasonably local options but I'm not too sure what direction to head in?? Only managed 2 trials last year after a 10 year lay off too....so, level wise....probably going to be beginner route!! Any ideas on the venues/what I can expect? Cheers
  11. ...thanks for the comments guys... Spudsdad - any idea on what jetting/needle position you have on your set-up? Did you have any joy with those V-force reeds btw? yamahaty250xox - I'm guessing that you're running a mikuni? I am wondering about dropping the pilot jet a tad.....see if I can lean it out a bit off the bottom. When you give it a handful in 1, 2 or 3rd it pulls really well.....find it's only on 1/8 - 1/2 throttle that it struggles.... Cheers chaps...
  12. Chaps, Been playing around with this 125 for a couple of weeks now and at my wits end!! Looking for some advice on carb set-up.... It's a Keihin - 52 pilot, 127 main, needle on middle position.... I've been told that this is the standard setting for an Evo.......but, I just don't seem to be able to get the thing to pull off the bottom in 2nd without it choking up/stalling.... Starting to wonder whether 2nd is only good for full throttle sections/climbs etc... Anybody out there have any thoughts on jetting/needle alternatives?? Or how to ride a 125!!! Cheers! Scott
  13. ...have to echo that sentiment.... ....a top bloke who's been chasing this elusive world title for about 15 years!!.... ....it's been a long time coming, surely he must be the poster campaign for dedication to two wheeled sports!! ....nice one chap...
  14. Has anybody got any recommendations on the Keihin carb settings on an Evo 125? Finding it a little too rich off the bottom and it doesn't seem to want to pull 2nd at low rpm.......wondering about changing the needle position and maybe a slightly smaller pilot? Cheers.....
  15. ......man, watching that footage depresses me!! I'm not long back in the UK after living in Whistler for 4 years......never got around to sorting out a trials bike over there (seemed to be really expensive...US duties I imagine)but a lot of the natural stuff around Squamish that we used to mtb guide on was cut by the local trials guys.....some amazing natural rock steps on the way up to the chief!!....the trials guys were certainly useful for cutting steep freeride stuff for us!!!
  16. Chaps, Just back from first trial back today......plenty of bits to faff with!!! Noticed that occasionally, when cleaning her out and reving high in gear, occasionally the clutch seemed to randomly engage?? I'm guessing that this is maybe some form of clutch drag....?.......had a look at the oil level window and the oil was looking a bit murky (already - about 6 hours in!!)....... New gearbox oil needed? Bike's a new Evo....
  17. hmmmm I'm liking the idea of a dremel and scotchbrite...!!....but, can't visualise it.....!! You mean looping the scotchbrite through the bar a couple of times, creating a sort of small polishing disk?
  18. Howdy Chaps.... Just back from my first blast out on the new Evo 125........still surprised at how well it pulls! So, I weigh about 75kgs.......fork preload off, rebound fully open, rear shock rebound fully open, about 4 turns of preload..... Found the front to still be a bit slow and linear, the back too really (and the back felt a little too soft, too much sag bias on the rear....)....didn't really want to put any preload on the front as the back already seems a bit soft and biased..... Is there a limit to turns of preload on the rear?......coming from an mtb background, you never really want more than 2 full turns...........guessing you can give more turns on a motorcycle shock.....? keen to hear any experience/suggestions with this one.... Cheers....
  19. Chaps, Any ideas out there on how to clean alloy without polishing the surface? Have some light salty oxidisation on the underside of exhaust and side of rims.....tried a small area with autosol.....!!!.....gave a too polished finish.... Just looking to clean up really (without getting the polished look!!)... Cheers!
  20. ...well chaps, after trying a few I've ended up with an Evo 125.....planned on getting a Rev 3 125, but thought I'd just 'check' what an Evo felt like.....it 'felt' another
  21. Alright, Well, after not much consideration and a week of re-reading the TMX.....I've just bought in......first bike back in a fair few years, and against mine and the bank managers best plans, the notion of a 2008 Rev 3 got smoked after trying back to back with an Evo! Interestingly, I was loosely considering a 125 for something a bit different.....and after trying an Evo 125 I was sold......mega little bike that seemed to find some low down grunt in 4th!!! At
  22. ...thanks for the feedback guys.... ....I think we're on similar lines Billy......I'm 33 too!!...and jumped on a Beta 240 when I was about 13......the switch back to the 160 made me work it a bit harder, but I felt a little more 'in-charge'.....back in those days though, the 125's had rear sprockets about the size of a dustbin lid and just made noise!! withouth really moving anywhere's.... Think I'll give the 125 a go.....been offered a new 08 Rev 3 for reasonable money, so if it doesn't work out I shouldn't stand to loose too much.... Bit of an aside, any recommendations for clubs/practise areas on the Notts/Derby border? Cheers chaps...
  23. Are there any adults out there riding a new(ish) 125? Just looking at getting a new bike and am curious about this new breed of more powerful 125's.... About 10 odd years ago, I switched from a 270 gasser to one of the 160's and had great fun with it!! It's been about 3 years since I've been out and from what I can gather the 07/08 125's are supposed to be more a more reasonable adult ride nowadays?? Any opinions or experience?
  24. Hello Chaps, Well, after dusting off my 3 odd years unused trials boots and Mont 315.....some b*gger bought it before I'd had a chance to take her out again! So, bikeless already! Something reliable, smooth on the power and well built leads me to a later Rev-3 it seems.....(memories of gg are build quality and Sherco are just a bit of an unknown one to me). Being a bit of an impatient sod, waiting for a 200 to come along is probably going to keep me off the bikes for another few months, so it's looking like a 250. The 2008's.....generally sorted?......anything to do/upgrade on them? (carb, stator etc). How are they weight wise? Be good to hear general opinions as my last Beta was a 1988 stripey! Cheers....
  25. Helloo, It's been almost a year it seems since I last touched the Mont and I can't for the life of me remember the carb settings!! I've got this constant plug fouling issue so want to go back over everything from scratch and double check! Last thing I remember is changing the jets from standard to Comp....then, maybe!! back to standard again!! Does anybody have details of the carb set-up and a pdf of the parts catalogue? It's a 2004 running the Dellorto....could so with jet sizes, needle position, float height, air screw etc etc..... Cheers!
