  3. I was going to ride this year but unforeseen circumstances dictate it now will have to be next year, I would however be interested in peoples thoughts after the trial, I understand the sections will be eased this year but will remain one if not the best trials in the Eastern centre. Bon Dimanche
  4. Bonsoir, If you fancy france then you can come down to the Dordogne and stay on a great campsite/ holiday complex just outside the famous medieval old town of Sarlat. The owners of the above ride trials and surrounding the campsite there is more trials land than you can shake a stick at. Adrien the son knows every knook and cranny and is on hand if you fancy to show you the sections. Whats more this piece of land hosts a round of the South west france championship in March of which we are marking out the sections now. The surrounding area is fantastic too for all the other touristy bits you might fancy. Lots of people from the North of france bring their bikes down here in the summer so you might have some company as well. The name of the place is " Combre Chaude " in the village of Carsac. If you would like any other info send me a email. Frenchie
  5. Give " Motorsport Travel " a go, they have a good web site and recently used them and was impressed price wise when compared to calling the ferry companies direct. That particular crossing is reknowned for being expensive, and it will be a two days drive down through France if you use Calais or Boulogne. If you use that route " Speed ferries " is worth a look. Good luck
  6. Hola, So, is Robregordo the bonus prize for missing out on the Pre 65 Scottish, hands up who's off to help empty the Spanish wine lake..... and take in the trial as well. Anybody fancy breaking up the journey down, I live about three inches down from Limoges and three inches in from Bordeaux have access to some excellent if not superb trials land, so if you want to get you eye in before the trial let me know , its about halfway in distance. Hopefully Micky and I will be there on twinshocks so the countdown begins.. Hasta la vista....
  7. When I posted this topic, I must admit it was meant in an almost cynical manner. I had been talking to a very good friend who was docked marks in the Pre 65 Scottish for having a tube less tyre Without a tube. He was understandably peeved so much so I believe he called it a day and headed south straight away. He supports trials up and down the country riding a big triumph and has been involved with trials for some forty odd years . He is one of the most genuine and principled people who competes in pre 65 trials which is riddled with double standards and rule bending. He is the last person I would label a cheat , which has been remarked here towards people who have built and ride bikes with tubless tyres. I have noted with interest the reasons why they should not be allowed of which I find a little curious if not whimsical. " A wider range of tyres " to " Easier to fix a puncture " and best of all " On a big bike you can take a better line and hit the big rocks harder " I know full well you cannot have one rule for one etc etc , but the above person is over Sixty riding one of the few genuine big bikes the Pre 65 scene is now crying out for and his tubless tyre offers how much of an advantage ....... very little if at all. When I hear and read about all the other mischievous goings on I get the feeling the people in charge are quite selective in which bikes they check and perhaps turn a blind eye to the wrong riders. Happy New Year Frenchie
  8. After reading in the Classic trials press, the Pre 65 Scotish allows tubless type tyres to be used with a tube in their regulations....but not without. Could someone enlighten me with the logic behind this and also do tubless tyres run without a tube... offer any proven advantage and if so what. Thanks
  9. Micky and I have had some banter before on this Mono front end subject, with him threatening to confiscate my Majesty if I do any more little mods to it....... The front end was the final straw as far as he was concerned......... Seriously the post was whether monos should compete with twinshocks, the answer is no no no . We all know the history when the Mono arrived all other trials bikes ( Twinshocks ) became almost obsolete overnight , the line had been drawn in the sand and trials had moved on. The post then moves to should we try and improve the twinshock bikes that we ride today, for me its personnal choice, some like orignality and some like to " Trick " their bikes up. I sympathise with both, and both are not wrong in what they do. In France and more so in Spain there are age retlated cateogories for twinshock so you wont ride a 1972 montesa cota 247 against a 1983 fantic 300 so the playing field is kept level. Doing this entails more work but no one can them moan about the bikes in their particular class. Lastly a Majesty with a Mono front , with drum brakes looks great, is better and safer to ride in the harder type sections . At no time does it afford any advantage over late model Hondas, Fantics and Swms twinshocks whose suspension and braking where developed in the late eighties not the early seventies.
  10. Have managed to secure and fit a Gas gas type kickstart to the Ty knuckle and it looks good and is works well. However, has anybody else done this as my question is about durability. Stu from BPS who did the welding is really worried that it may not last long due to the stress put on the joint when its continually used. The last thing you need is it breaking in a trial as you can imagine Any thoughts would be greatly apprciated on the subject. Thanks
  11. Just happened to be down at bps eng in South west France today...... STU has just had some cracking tank and seat units made for the TLR range some have been painted in Repsol colours. They come with a alloy screw petrol cap and fuel tap and piping to use both sides of the internal petrol tap. He also has some light weight sump guards and frame protection pads and in fact loads of other twinshock special bits manufactered to suit other marques Due to him being a self confessed knob on the computer his web sit BPS-ENG in never updated but you can contact him using it. He has done quite a bit of Engineering work for me and is bloody good , as are his products.. Worth a look or certainly a chat on the phone as his English is perfect apart from a slight Yorkshire accent........
  12. Thanks for the you tube tip... I rode that trial last December and remember it well. You are also correct in the popularity of Mick Andrews in France and his contact with the trials shop mentioned, the bikes on the website look excellent buys. Perhaps some of the guys on here might fancy a venture or even adventure across the Channel to take in a twinshock round in france, a topic for future discussion perhaps.
  13. I keep hearing stories of Majestys being snapped up and shipped to France... I never see them out and about, in fact they are really quite rare in my opinion. Who is buying them..........and will they be let out to play.....
  14. Why has nt anybody snapped the Majesty on ebay up....... I thought they were well sort after, am I missing something .......
  15. This is one of the few times in life when lenght is a problem, having added the alloy kick start it is slightly too long and awkward to get your leg on to it, also my foot slips off it when tryng to start the bike. It has not been a great sucess . If we can narrow down what year of gas gas we are looking at I will try and track one down before the rest of you try...... Thanks again.
  16. In my quest to improve my majesty, I am looking to change the kickstart, I would like to add a new, lighter lever and dispense with the rather large heavy original. I have tried an alloy Ty mono kickstart welded to the original bottom piece, this has asthetically worked but its rather long and tricky to use . Has anybody done this mod with example a shorter kickstart lever from a modern trials bike, if so would they be willing to share which this is. Thanks very much

    Wheel Spokes

Can anybody tell me if, and where its possible to buy front wheel " Z " type stainless spokes for a Mono. I seem to remember they were unobtainable, or perhaps just hard to find some time ago has the situation changed. Thanks

    Swm Clutch

Re the clutch mod, I am trying to get my French pal to write it down and phot copy the plan so I can forward it onto the forum. Like all things in France simple things get complicated and it ends up more trouble than its worth. I will keep on at him and maybe it will get posted. Sorry but theres not a lot i can do.....

    Swm Clutch

I was out practising this afternoon and when we had finished, started reminiscing about the halcyon days of trials in England and France the Eighties....... My practise partner went on to explain he had managed to buy and Ex factory Ex michaud Swm . He went on to explain how during many nights of work had lightened the clutch so it was able to be used with just a finger and how all his mates at the time were disbelieving and envious, as with earlier posts they are rather hard to use. If there is any interest, he tells me he has still all the drawings and notes so if anyone is interested I will try and copy them onto this page. I am no engineer so I have no idea what he did although he did explain by adding cams and changing a few things it worked. I have in fact been badgering him to ride the twinshock trials over here and now he is actively trying to track this bike down lets hope he finds it....
  22. This is an interesting topic as I have en route a pair of mono forks and yokes to go on the front of my Majesty. My trials guru who is undertaking the job wanted to pair the mono forks with the mono yokes as he was worried if he bored out the original twinshock yokes this would potentialy weaken them. He felt with some modifications the mono yokes would fit, so in fact you would have a complete mono front end. Now after reading the last post if we go ahead and change the yokes will this have a detremental effect vis a vis the steering and handling. Any input would be greatly apprciated as it makes no difference to me whether we have mono yokes or twinshock. Thanks
  23. I wiz locking at ze internut et just ad to spoke aboat the deux Ariels sur le page. It is acceptable to rode these on your trials in England. Sacre bleu , those not are Ariels loke I new. 24. Thanks for the reply, I wasn t really clear its a round trip of around 12 miles so a little less , but I understand what your saying. I will wait and see if anything shows up and takes my fancy, but again with twin shock trials bikes the prices are firming up and anything good and or restored is well sort after. Thanks again Frenchie
