  1. Thanks for the good advice guys. I've found e bay a great place to sell my surplus bits but not so good to buy, too expensive. I've sorted myself out some crankcases and a gearbox plus also sourced a freshly rebored Greeves alloy barrel and head etc c/w new piston fitted with Honda rings. Picked up 37A inner and outer chaincases new for
  2. Havent ridden much this year just occaisional outings on a Bultaco 340 6 speed. However the otter framed B40 is almost finished for next year and then the James will start to take shape when i get back from France sometime in January hopefully ready for the summer trials season.
  3. I'm building one in the new year once i've got the engine bits together. Getting my stuff from Alan Whitton. Funny enough so does Mick
  4. In the process of building a pre 65 two stroke, never did get on that well with 4 strokes, so all i need now is a Villiers 32a or 37a engine. Anybody got one spare? Not bothered about the condition as i expect to have to replace the bearings etc anyway. Just dont want any holes or cracks. So can anybody help?
  5. Superb looking bike. I really really want one but would it be legal for twinshock events? Well all the boxes seem ticked. Drum brakes, originally manufactured with twin shocks. What do you think Woodie etc?
  6. Re the disc situation. Remember when the TY250 Yam mono was all the rage? Remember when Talon brought out the disc conversion? Remember how you got buried in the rush to get one fitted? Remember how quickly the sections became tighter? Remember how the entries died off? Just when i thought it was safe to get the old 340 out:0( Oh well leave it in the back of the shed for another year.
  7. Back in the dark depths of the 70's you had that piece of foam to stop you getting blisters on the side of your hand and thumb. Honest. Even remember seeing some fancy leather foam filled rings for sale
  8. Dont know if your engine is a distributor type Woodie but C & D autos in Brum, local to you, do a crankshaft bearing conversion which helps eliminate their weakness and as you would be fitting electronic ignition and losing the distributor then thats not a problem either. If you ring Alan he will be able to help as he runs a C15T himself and knows and can do all the mods to help make yours competitive. He does a lot of the machining for Serco and also works closely with Mick Andrews, Thorpy and Mick Grant. One other contact for you to try is Gagg and sons in Nottingham. they have a lot of C15 bits. Hope this helps.
  9. "There are a number of works mods. In 1979 Reg May was featured in TMX news where he outlined all the works mods of the day. I have a copy if anyone is interested " Yes please would be most interested. I'm sure a lot of them could be applicable to the 199b i've got. Thanks for the offer.
  10. OOPs sorry Good luck with yours anyway. as i said keep your eye on e bay and we will see how high it goes.
  11. Selling it because i've too many projects and need the cash for the other bikes especially the B40 pre 65 project. Had the bike for a few years so not sure what it will fetch. All i can say is just keep an eye on the e bay listing and whatever it makes will be a guide for you when you sell yours. dont know how prices are over in the U.S. You did say you were in the U.S. didnt you?
  12. Sorry no spares just a complete bike. Complete apart from the airbox that is. Comes complete with new sprockets, Michelin X11 and brake shoes. somebody must want one?
  13. Sorry dont mean to hijack the topic but there is a 350 Yellow gripper for sale on e bay. Actually its mine i'll come clean. Just in case any of you are interested. Sorry
  14. If you are looking for parts for Ossa, Montesa or Bultaco then try this http://www.trialclasico.com/ Problem is as Honda RS says and if i remember correctly he had two at one point. One in boxes and the other semi complete but he was looking for "good money" for both. Ossa grippers fetch high prices basically because they are almost the only source of parts. Saying that i may know where there is a complete example, including the mild steel bash plate and origional alloy silencer. Price would need to be right though. If you cant beat em join em
  15. Give Alan Whitton at Race Engineering a call. He makes cub hubs and also rickman copies from billet aluminium and they are not as expensive as you might think. His number is 01246 419805.
  16. Dont know if they can be of any help but have you tried Gagg and Sons on Alfreton road in Nottingham? they do mail order and you can find the number on Yell.com. theyve been in business for 100 years and have an alladins cave of unit BSA bits. Alan is your man. He gets a bit stressed but can be very knowledgeable and helpful.
  17. How much is it worth? Well if you dont know then neither do i. Cant be doing with all this "make me an offer" crap. OK give you
  18. Me as well dont think theres much chance of that but you never know there might be a change of heart and openess by the Scottish organising commitee. wow did you just see that squadron of pigs fly past the window in vee formation? IF, and i say if, it ever becomes available how about Andy keeping it on the site as a reference document for people who dont want to waste their hard earned just for some official with a private agenda to fail their p & j at scrutineering?
  19. Can i just say i fully and wholeheartedly agree with Honda RS here. What it needs is a boycott of the Scottish by unit construction bikes. and pre unit if they had any integrety, until the ACU clarify with a set of rules and construction regulations that HAVE to be applied across the board on penalty of a fine and if serious enough the exclusion of the organising club. It's become a farce. As for difficulty of accessing if forks are "authentic" pre 65 just push the damn things up and down and its obvious. 3" movement verses over 6". How about spot checks and any bike contraveining the regulations is confiscated and sold off at auction, the proceeds to go to charity. About as much chance of that lot being accepted as me climbing Pipeline clean! But it is about time something was done as there soon wont be ANY affordable pre 65 bikes then the class will die when the bikes become so precious they never get used.
  20. I know everybody seems to be Falcon fans here and i know that they have a loyal following but i,ve just fitted a pair of "Mick Andrews Classic Team" shocks to my B40 and i am well pleased especially as they cost me just under
  21. duckwazard I,ve got one. Its not for sale. And its priceless. There thats on topic. Got to remember guys that some posters on this site have shall i say a "commercial interest" . Saying that perhaps they would like to "come out" and help Andy with some sponsorship and an advert? how about it "Honda RS" All opinions are relevant though it keeps the site alive.
  22. Thanks HondaRS. funny really i only bought a new kickstart from Terry the other week and never thought to ask him. Doh !!
  23. Hi I also have an interest in the Classic bike scene (road bikes) and this subject always crops up. Current thinking seems to follow these lines. Monograde oils, Chatsworth 30 etc, were appropriate when the bike was new (as that was all that was available) however there are better alternatives now. The reason some people suggest monograde oils and the reason you wouldnt use say Mobil 1 5w 40 is generally speaking older engines were designed with much larger tolerances than modern ones. In fact some older bikes tolerences when new are larger than modern Hondas when nackered. All that then happens is the oil pump can not maintain pressure and the oil just leaks out of all the bearings and some of the mating faces as well. Engine go bang! The other thing about monograde oils is they generally speaking have no detergent properties. Now what this means is they allow the products of combustion to be deposited in the engine, thats why the insides are so black, they do not carry those deposits in suspension. Conversely multigrade oils do have detergent properties and they are designed to carry the products of combustion in suspension to be collected by the oil filter. When i say oil filter i mean the cartridge type of which there are many kits available not the gauze strainer in the oil tank which is there to collect the odd twig (joke). So that really sums up your choice. Synthetics are out (too thin and too slippery). Monogrades are good but not so eaisily available and tend to depost the carbon all around your new rebuilt pride & joy. Best avternative seems to be good old 20/50 eaisily available and if you fit one of the filter kits works perfect. I and most of the guys locally use (dont laugh) Wilko 20/50 dead cheep under
  24. Far be it from me but if thats the state of affairs then why bother to have observers at all? A competition can only be fair if the rules are clearly understood by all and applied even handedly to ALL. Thats the basis of the law (or its supposed to be) in this fair land. I know observers are hard to come by but if thats the level of marking competence then why not just fill in your own marks, as that would probably be more accurate, and then the poor bugger who's been "roped in" to observe could stay in the van in the warm. I'm not having a go (well alright i am) but if the marking isnt 1. accurate and to the rule book and 2. the same for all competitors its just a sad joke. So if the observers arent up to it dont bother with any lets just pay our money, ride the sections and enjoy our bikes??? Saves a lot of hassle and if the "tin pot chasers" are that desperate for a bit of plastic then we can all have a whipround for them and get them a gold plated dummy. Sorry bad day and needed a rant. I'll get me coat then
