How about a reed valve, just put one on my model 199 325 project bike
-
looking good, love those swingarm bearings
-
Nice project Wayne, im starting my jigsaw puzzle soon with my 199 all the bits are nearly ready to go, are you going to do any engine mods?
Good mod done by the previous owner of mine was a coupme of grease nipples on the swingarm!
Also who does the taper bearings?
-
I have one, its my restoration project for next year, has a model 80 engine, the clubfoot silencer in the pic is off a different bike
-
Thanks for the replies, what size seals shoud be used?
-
Sorry for confusing things, wrong bike was in the pic, it is the later type 199, that blue one has been put on the long finger for the moment,
one money pit at a time
-
What shoud these be replaced with?
Ive heard varying reports of new replacement ones failing, or of people fitting 2 single ones each side.
Whats everyone using?
Thanks
-
That looks the part Wayne, ill be posting the barrel over your direction soon if that suits
cheers

Hi all
Need a bash plate for a model 199a sherpa, no luck finding one so far
Tried all places I know and no joy
any ideas?
-
Im afraid the threads are completly gone
-
Hi all
Just picked up a sherpa model 80 with a sammy miller replica frame, needs quite a bit of work and is going to be a long term project I think.
One of the worse bits is the threads on the barrel where the exhaust screws in are gone, can these be repaired?
cheers

I bet its from water getting into the airbox while riding it or washing it, when washing it you should tale off the rear guard and tape up the airbox opening, then proceed with the washing
hope this helps

Brilliant, thanks for all the info, that gives me a good baseline for my new project, ill post a pic as soon as i pick it up.

Hi all
I had been running my bike on the same oil and ratio as my 2001 gas gas txt 280 pro2 at 100-1 and I had noticed last time out on the bike that the engine was rattly and there seemed to be a lot of piston slap, bought new rings, small end etc and when I pulled it apart noticed that the back of the piston was flattened(not round as it should have been) so I put in a new piston as well.
While talking to the dealer I got the bits off he asked what oil etc I was using and said I should be using semi synth instead of fully synth and at a ratio of 50-1 is this right?
-
Thanks for that, I dont want to really change much im just looking for the best basic set up to be honest, dont know much about these bikes but a few of my mates have them and I really like them, they pull like a train and are like nothing else I have ridden in terms of traction, the points ignition was my main concern as I didnt fancy being in a river and them getting wet but it seems they are ok then so ill prob stick with them for the minute if they work.
So next question is what should the timing be set at, what length should the rear shocks be as the ones fitted at the mo are non original and what fork oil should be used ant what amount, air gap etc?
thanks again

Hi all
Im in the process of buying a 199model 350 sherpa, the bike is pretty original but I would like to know the best mods to improve the bike, maybe along the lines of electronic ignition, new carb maybe and some brakes would be nice also what improvements can be made to the steering and handling of these beasts?
cheers
-
On a 350 sherpa what would be the best carb setup?
What jetting would you use with a dellorto?
Thanks in advance
-
Make sure to waterproof the bike as much as you can if you are going to be riding in wet conditions, water comes spraying from the front wheel up under the tank and straight into the airbox if you dont.
On my 07 I have a plate around the exhaust at the front and have sealed up anywhere I can using silicone sealant as the airbox was filling with water everytine it was raining
cheers

I had a problem with the power of my 07 290, tried a smaller front sprocket and slow action throttle but it was still too snappy,
I fitted 3 standard thickness base gaskets and now it is perfect, was a doddle to chang them too.
hope this helps
-
Thanks, I might try that then, also what the best ratio that I should mix the 2 stroke oil at, on the gas gas I always ran it at 100:1 but that mightnt be suitable for the sherco.
Thanks
-
Hi all
Recently changed from a gas gas txt 280 to a 07 sherco,
On the gas gas I added extra base gaskets which I think really improve traction and made the power less snappy for the novice that I am,
has anyone done this to a sherco and what thickness gaskets would work best?
cheers
