Thanks just,...unfortunately I've done all of that already...in fact, I THINK i've covered everything so I guess it must be the CDI....keep the ideas coming though chaps..you never know eh! Would be really cool if i could get it started for Nettleton tommorow eh!

HI all, Got no spark on my Beta. Tried a new stator on it this morning, and that made no difference. I've looked really closely at all the wires and earths and they all seem fine. Is there any way to check if the CDI is working OK???..and which black box is it?? there are 2 on my bike (05 Rev 3 270) ...one directly behind the headstock and one just on top of the radiator. ANy help VERY gratefully received...havent completely given up hope of a ride tommorow yet, although its looking very unlikely
  3. Cheers guys.. running out of time now, so I think a ride tommorow is out of the question..never mind. Try to sort it next week. Lampkins weren't there Heath..you were right. see ya STU
  4. Come on glyph...tell us what it was, coz Im having a similar problem now! cheers STU
  5. WOW...I agree addict....thats REALLY REALLY usefull Glyn, thanks for all the good info/advice. I will definately keep your website bookmarked!!!
  6. HI depekktib, sorry to go off topic, but I'm gonna be in Philippines in December, and would love to find out about the local trials scene, if there is one. Maybe you can help? My wife is Philippina, and we will stay in Manilla for a bit and then Nueva Ecija. salamat STU
  7. I ordered an impact gun from ebay a few days ago, to get my flywheel off, and it still hasnt turned up..AND I'm getting no communication from them now...something like powertime online is there name...so you might want to beware of going down that route. Good ol' ebay eh! Was cheap anyway, so I guess I'll just have to go and find one elsewhere. There are other tools that you can use/make/improvise, but personally I've wanted an air impact wrench for ages, so i guessed this was a good excuse to get one.
  8. Should be able to get bearing from any decent bearing shop...and cheaper than a bike shop. Try to get the old ones out without knackering them and then take them to the bearing shop with you and they will hopefully give you the correct ones. Worth a try anyway!
  9. Kind of doesnt explain the one that went on my 03 Beta though, cos that one had NEVER seen water...only the dry dusty rocks of Hong Kong. Mind you...with the humidity out there, it may be that there was a build up of condensation?..in which case, I guess it would be better to have a couple of holes in the case? It also doesnt quite follow with my current 05 Rev3, which I do ride in water alot, but I do take the case off and let it all dry out between rides. Ah well..there we go. Once I've got the money together for a new one I guess I'll feel better about it.
  10. Oops.. sorry, mine has 900 mls in it. i think it was the aircooled ones that had more.
  11. Thanks helloyes, I;ll try them, dont suppose you have a number for them fo you??..just in case I cant google it. Can you remember what they charged you??
  12. Only other thing I can remember is that I got LOTS of different opinions on how much gearbox oil should be in them. Mine..(watercooled 93 model) has had 1,400 mls in it, and it appears to be fine. Note it IS alot more than modern bikes, like my Beta that only takes 550mls Maybe thats why the old beasty is so heavy!!!!
  13. I would think the reason that the problem kept coming back is purely cost. Maybe Beta had bought a shed load of stators, that they had to keep using and get rid of for a few years??..or maybe they do have new bits every year??? Had a chat to a guy yesterday about re-winding my current one, (which wasnt gonna be cost effective as it turned out)..but it was interesting that he thought the coating around the coil with the thinner wire in it should have been epoxyed, rather than the coating it does have which he thought would let in moisture, and indeed he thought that MIGHT have been the problem with mine.
  14. I use 80:1 on mine and its been fine for years, I think 30:1 would be much too rich. Peter knight power sports uk (do a google search) has manuals for the engines. And he sells parts for the engines. Cant think of anything else off the top of my head, but if I do, I'll post here.
  15. Well, fair enough I guess , although it was worth a try eh! The answer was no, since the bike is a couple of years old. Chap i spoke to was VERY helpfull though, and suggested other things to look for, just in case it isnt the stator, and then, to answer yamahaty250 he said they are 85 quid before VAT if I buy one, which I guess will turn out to be 100 quidish in the end. SO...in summary, no I cant really afford the 100 quid right now, AND its the second one thats gone on me, but I'll still be buying Beta next time! Maybe I'm just daft??
  16. I had one go on my 03 Beta, which I didnt even ask Beta UK to replace under warranty since it was the bike I bought back with me from Hong Kong when I returned to England. HOWEVER, I now have a UK Beta 05 and the stator went on it yesterday, so I am gonna telephone Lampkins now, and will let you know what the response is. Of course I'm hoping they might replace it for free, but lets see. With regard to neglect being an issue, I believe that I look after my bikes very well, so I dont think its that which has proved mine to break down.
  17. wow...that does look good.. I tell you what..if you wanna get back into stuff with engines, I'll do you a swap for my Aprilia climber 280 Go on..you know you want to!
  18. Take up something really dull for a few weeks....like, well, I was gonna say golf, but there's probably loads of golf lovers on here...ah well, said it now so its too late...and then, maybe after a few weeks, the joy of a ride on yer Beta will return! Good luck. And..hey..whats wrong with Shandy
  19. I bought a new Beta one from bvm-moto.co.uk for about 29 quid..(not inc. postage)...but now that I know about the other place (thanks MIKEE), I think I will send my broken one to them to fix so that I can have it for a spare.
  20. Thanks for all the info Pete, and thanks for the regs you sent in the post. Unfortunately I've gotta work that day...otherwise I would definately be there! Have fun..and see you next time.
  21. Ooohhh..bo drinker, you spoiling your bike.!...good on ya. Theres a trial at Builth?? next week..(Gwent Schoolboy club)...reckon that'll be a good un, and not TOO far away, so hope to see you there. STU
  22. Just use G clamps...but yes I agree, it is one of the very few bad points about the Rev3. In fact Ive found that I also have to take the bash plate off on my 05 just like i did on earlier bikes I owned....and yes its a pain in the ****
  23. It was LAST Sunday Ian!!!! So dont go there this week. If you dont have anywhere planned for this week I HIGHLY reccomend the Wye Valley trial...coz the venue is amazing. The last thing I heard it still wasnt in TMX....DOH!..but its definately on the ACUWESTERNCENTRE website. Hope to see you there Ian. And bo drinker of course....go on..you know you want to. Kept forgetting to say sorry I didnt hang around after that Dudley trial Bo...I thought id get off home and change a few more nappies......the fun never ends you see!!!!!!!!!
  24. Good point bo drinker! Was a good trial bytheway!..so I could fully recommend it to anyone next time. Cheers to all the organisers.
