  1. Thanks everyone. Had a bit of free time today, so took it all apart ...did the lapping..put back together and did up the nut with an airgun thingy...bike started fine, and all appears to be OK...for NOW!!!!!!!! thanks for all your help folks.
  2. Thanks everyone for your comments. I will investigate if that is happening to me Jon. Might be a few days untill I have time, but will check it all out again anyway. Cheers
  3. When I say I used autosol...it wasnt I hasten to add, to work the two surfaces together, it was just to clean the surface of the shaft.
  4. Thanks technowaldo. I tried to do that before, but..(you're probably all gonna laugh now!!)..I used autosol, which I thought would be abrasive enough, but not too much. Hope that wasnt TOO much of a stupid idea. Anyway..I will try again with the proper stuff as soon as I can get some valve grinding paste, which I assume I'll find in a good auto shop
  5. Hi folks, Some of you may have read my post about 10 days ago about scorched reeds on my 02 Rev3 250. Well...after checking what I thought was everything..(to try and cure the awfull blubbing I was getting) I put it all back together, and on starting the bike I sheared a woodruff key...and then another one after reasembling. I dont have a torque wrench so the third time I did the nut on the flywheel up tighter than before and all seemed well. Did a trial on it, and it ran fine after the first lap....(still had the bad blubbing for the first lap)..but then, as if by magic it was suddenly clear and ran like a dream for the rest of the trial. Then, a week later (yesterday) had a little practice and within about 2 mins the woodrufff key sheared again. If any of you have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong, and if this problem might be connected to the blubbing problem I would appreciate your ideas. Thanks in advance for all your help.
  6. Good point Scorpa3! Correct me if Im wrong, but I dont think we see the price of road bikes going up when the value of the pound falls....mmmm...food for thought. Of course, the road bike scene is a bigger market, but personally I think we dont really get such good value for money on a new trials bike. Have any of you looked closely at the 125cc R1 lookalike..(sorry dont know what its called)...but thats a serious piece of kit, and I THINK it costs somewhere between 2 and 3 grand on the road! I wish I could afford a new 4rt, but I also think even if I could Id be reluctant to spend that much on something Im gonna keep crashing
  7. HI all, Just to let you all know what happened in the end. Well, I put it all back together...also cleaned everything up behind the stator..and took it to a trial yesterday. It blubbed all the way round the first lap, and then, all of a sudden, hey presto, it was all fine and ran as sweet as a nut..untill the end of the trial. Then in my last few minutes of a bit of practice before putting it on the car rack to go home it started to blub again. Strange!!..unfortunately, maybe the mstery continues. WHen it was running well tho, it was great, and I still reckon the rear suspension on the 02 rev3 was the best of all of them. Certainly feels better than the 03 AND the 05 I had, in my VERY humble opinion.
  8. Will check the clip on the needle paul..thanks for that. Probably will be Saturday till I can do any more work on the bike, but will let you all know what happens. No pics sorry...it appears one has to post them on Photobucket first, to be able to put them on here. SOrry guys, but cant be bothered with all that. More soon. Cheers. STU
  9. Thanks again everyone for your very usefull comments. Lowbrow...here is a couple of pics..HOPEFULLY, if I can manage to post them properly. One of the clean (lower reed valves),..and one of the scorched upper reed valves. Hopefully the pics might bring up some more ideas of the cause and maybe if it is connected to might bike blubbing very badly at about quarter throttle. THanks in advance everyone...keep the ideas coming. Uh-oh..just tried adding an image to this and just dont have a clue how to do it. Last time I did it...couple of years back, it was easy...now it just seems to ask me to enter an url of where the image is???... AAARRRGGHHH..had some good pics for you all too.
  10. Thanks both, and especially Dan for your thorough comments. I will do as you've said Dan and try again. Although, I've been pretty thorough with the compressor blowing out all bits of the carb before. I have heard people say that sometimes the needle jet can be worn, but doesnt look any different to the eye. Maybe its worth getting a new one? Also Dan, going back to the original post, do you have any idea why that scorching is there...(even if the valves aren't going to give the symptoms I'm experiencing, it would be good to have an idea why that scorching is there) THanks in advance. STU
  11. Hi all, OK..I've had some problems with my old 2002 Beta recently. It starts fine, ticks over lovely, and runs OK...UNTILL you get to about 1 quarter throttle, and then it blubbs really badly. Tried cleaning carb, airbox etc., several times, and didnt make any difference. SO..started to look a bit further, and on taking out the reed 'block' I noticed the upper reed valves, and the metal springy bit that kind of holds them in was all scorched. Do any of you have any idea what would have caused that, and do you think it could also be the cause of my blubbing...(the bike blubbs, not me!) THanks in advance for all your wisdom.
  12. Come on folks. If you miss this trial you'll regret it. The sections here are absolutely amazing. Stunning scenery too. It may even make for a good family weekend!..there's nothing but sheep around there, so it might be a good idea to bring the missus! I'll be there and hope to see lots of you good TC folk there too. Maybe there could even be a TC gathering in the pub?? Roll on 25th APRIL!
  13. I agree with Pete scorpa3 We used to do this all the time when I was in Hong Kong. Always on modern bikes with tubeless rim and tubeless tyre. As he said..just wip the valve out, put the tube in, and off you go! Piece of cake
  14. HI all you Oset fans, I'm THINKING of buying an Oset for my daughter, (if I can find a used one within my budget). Of course I'm aware of all the advantages..BUT,..i have this nagging doubt that you dont get as much for your money as you could with a used petrol TXTboy50 for example?? Another concern is, if buying a used one....how long (in months/years of average use) could you expect a battery to last?..and if it needs replacing, is it very expensive, and easily available??...cant find any price for a new battery on the net. Any ideas or opinions would be gratefully received. THanks

    Heavy Clutch

Mmmmm...good points Dan..will investigate mine a bit further. Mine is an 02 tho, so its a bit old now...maybe its just getting a bit tired!..like me!
  16. That chain looks slightly older than 4 hours to me. Yes, I know you're probably gonna think Im a right tit for saying that....but if its true, then I'm with you. I'd be pretty p***ed of if mine broke after 4 hours. I've had one break on me as well actually, but I'd had it for quite a while so wasnt too miffed.

    Heavy Clutch

Funny you say that Tone, but mine is similar at the mo....even after bleeding.
  18. I think you'll find they are whats known as 'floating discs'. Of course it is worth keeping an eye on the bolts to check THEY are not loose, but the discs will normally have some movement in them. Without going out to the garage to check mine, I HOPE I'm correct. Somebody else, I'm sure will confirm sooner or later.
  19. Bravo Dougie...he really does the trials world proud eh!..and so cool too. If it was me I would have been all flustered and messing all my words up...largely due to those pink riding pants putting me off!
  20. Fantastic ....at last..thanks spud. THat makes me feel a bit better. Mind you, having a different taste to everyone else can sometimes be a good thing eh!..At least it means we wont all be fighting over the same ladies!
  21. Would I be being a party pooper to say that I prefer the look of the original Evo?? Sorry to disagree with you all!..especially the exhaust...(rear bit) looks much better on the original...no??
  22. Yeah, looks significantly different to me. Think it would be way to much hassle to try and MAKE it fit. Saw 3 evo's in the flesh yesterday...wow, looks SO good. Now I want one badly!
  23. That sounds like a good idea. I've broken a couple of those over the years
