    Oy Rappers!

Your absolutely right and I have said in the past one year there was 167 riders. The riders that are in the entry today and in those previous years are the ones that have supported the event through the bad times. We had a telephone call from Jim McColm one of the years asking if my brother had forgotton to send his entry in, his cicumstances were that he just could not afford to ride that particular year, but the club were scrathing around for anyone to make up the numbers. I would imagine in the lean years that the club, were glad of us regulars as it probably nearly got to a point where they were wondering whether it was viable to run it at all, but we were there giving our support. I am not saying who should be in the entry, or who shouldn't and would any of us on here want to pick/ballot/choose/select the 270 riders, so good on the club Whether your capable of riding at Club, Centre or National level does not make a scrap of difference the SSDT is one to do on your wish list of trials, and the popularity since going no stop has made it over subscribed. The club would like a solution if there is one, so maybe I can start and get shot down.................... The trial used to run 300 starters, the club say it is just not viable to add another 30 riders nowadays. Now I know it is a long day for the officials, and a 0730hrs start is early, but could we not start at 0700hrs Another

    Oy Rappers!

Link Had a say on this in the above link, totally agree 'Kinell', but is there an answer. Sure get rid of the bottom 30, after a few years of doing that will it be over subscribed!!! Will riders come back? The guy that witheld his name and address will still put his entry in next year and may get in, then somone else will write a letter and so on. You won't please everyone, and everyone thinks they have a better solution, but the club don't seem to be doing a bad job
  3. Picked up my ''YUMMY'' No. Plate today from BVM to give it a try, seems fairly flexible, so at least it will get through scruteneering Slightly off the subject, I wa stood at the counter with Rob Griffiths, who has the record for the SSDT I beleive, it will be his 37th !!! So between us we have 58 SSDT's between us, that's a lot of bikes, tyres, spares and money.....Do we regret it DO WE HECK
  4. ishy is yer man on this i think
  5. Ok I've been volunteeered for an answer Good choice SDMC, probably one of the best trials grounds in the UK, nearly know every rock and blade of gras in the Camp So yopu are from Thirsk, your closest event is the Thirk club events which take place at the top of Sutton Bank, first venue being Gliding Club Lane the second is Long Plain Farm. Difficult to assess someones ability on the forums, but as beta120690 said the Wednesday summer series at SDMC is a good starter..Dead easy, but don,t blame me if you struggle. Next step up is Clubman 'B', then Clubman 'A', then Hard Course!!! Best bet is go along and observe to gauge your ability against the severity of the sections and then decide. They are always crying out for observers, at least you can say youv'e done your bit. As for over 40 you ride the easier course (Clubman 'A') and you ride against all the other ''old buggers'' for the over 40 award, only applicable in some trials. Hope this helps.................Enjoy
  6. If anyone knows of the contact details of Stuart or Richard Woodfield, or they maybe a Trials Central member. Could you PM me please Thanks

  8. No not done it that many times Probably
  9. Moving to Leicester, you are not too far from the Derbyshire Dales, where there are some cracking venues. I live in Coventry and ride at Earls Shilton, 12 trilas a year, it is Ok and is also available for practise, but tend to go to Derbyshire to get on the rocks. Not too many rocks down South, so if your a Mud man you will be Ok
  10. Following on from the topic in T&MX this week about some discruntled rider not getting a ride yet again in this years SSDT. I am very passionate about the SSDT, and most people know how many years I have ridden this event, so I feel justified to offer my comments and support to one of the best trials in the world. Firstly the club have a very dificult job in who gets an entry, this selection process takes years of being part of the committee and has not been made easier this year with the sad passing away of Willie Dalling, so people should not forget that. Mark has taken over the reins and will continue to do a good job and the selection process has been made for this year and the numbers have been issued. There is going to be a lot of dissapointed riders out there, but we would need to fit lights on our bikes to accept 450+ riders. So to pick up on a few comments made: ''It's the same old names year after year'' If this was the case there would be no first timers ''Drop the bottom 30 riders from next years entry'' Bit harsh, the SSDT is a one of the best tests for man and machine, you could have a problem one day and get pushed down the results into that bottom 30. That could be a decent centre rider or even someone who could win the trial, who on those rules would be banished the following year. ''Same lucky chaps rotovating their way round/Trail riding'' Mmmmmm trail riding...I wish Those chaps have got as much right to be there as any other rider, regardless of ability, they hold a licence and enter the trial like anyone else. All I will say on this point is that I know the club have given instructions to the observers, that anyone that asks for a 5 it is noted, and looked at at the end of the week There may be a solution and I am sure Mark and his team would like to hear constructive critisism, I actually think they are doing the job right, not just because I get a ride every year and I don't class myself as a rotovator, but if it is the same people that have supported the event for several years then look after them. They will retire eventually So''Mr I would be obliged if you would withold my name and address''brave man of so many words, come out and let us know who you are, or would that be detremental to your entry next year Comments please
  11. Will This Do Would this do for the Pre 65 SSDT? Add it to your collection Big John

    It's A Minter

Fantic Bit of work needs doing on this, before the next trial
  13. Panic Button Might be useful for any first timers Got my Regs through today, just wondering how long that number plate thingy will last on the Scottish moors, before tucking under the rear wheel and snapping the mudguard Anybody got one? Not critisising just asking, if that's what the local plod wants, then we have to abide by his rules

Wish I could make mine last 10 months Anyway another link here Look Here
  15. Big John another Scottish question for you? Bet he comes up with an answer aswell..Smart A**e Riding next to Walter this year, as I speak the old German Lingo fluently will have a chat..................His English is pretty good also Steve Moore took a 330 Gas Gas round for about 7 years, I know it is the only trial he does but, from memory apart from cycle parts he did nowt to it. His Beta will be on its 3rd SSDT this year, unless he has got a new one...doubt it!!!!!!!
  16. Right................My two pennath Depends much on the ability of the rider and it does help if you have ridden it a couple of times to judge how long the moor crossings are, how fast to go on the road and most importantly how to prepare your bike. Preparing your bike for the Scottish is not a 2 hour job in the garage, beleive me you need to check, check and double check everything. Some importers produce quite a comprehensive guide and this will help the bike to run all week. Having a bike problem in the SSDT is like a domino effect, you loose time by fixing the problem then you race across the moors throwing the bike away occassionally causing more damage. get off the moors radiater clogged, but you think you need to race to get in on time, maybe nip it up etc. etc. so bike prep is really important I have never used choke on the modern bikes used to on the twin shocks, but not recentlly. I take it easy on the road about 45mph, a modern bike with small radiater is not built for 20+ miles on the road singing its head off, yes the choke might lubricate the cylinder lining more, but it won't stop it boiling. BOILING BIKE is a SIEZED BIKE. As OTH said make the time up on the rough pace youself it ain't an enduro All my bikes run the best after the SSDT, yes the engine has done 500+ miles, but that is far better than a bike that has pottered around at club trials. As for the appearence, might be a few rock scrapes, might need new plastics, but that's it, give her a oil change and she would do another six days.....don't know about the rider though
  17. That'll do the job See were in the same pack in Scotland Mark, Changed Bikes??
  18. Still looking forward to it....... SSDT went a bit OTT in the 90's one year there was only 167 riders I beleive, They took a bold step and made it no stop and more geared to the Bulk of the clubmen level riders............the rest is history 400+ entries So set out at least one section I can clean
  19. Poor showing for a national really, feel sorry for the organisers as it is a cracking trial, if you like muddy banks I did think it was getting harder the last two years for the main bulk of the entry, so hopefully it will be eased a bit Maybe the severity has put a lot of people off, just a thought.
  20. Are you really sure it is overheating? You top it up to the brim when cold, the coolant when hot will expand and will self level out of the overflow even if the fan is on, this is causing the ''Spitting''!! Does it loose a lot of coolant? If it does then you do have a problem, if not then don't worry about it is finding its own level. Don't be spending money on stripping the engine down if there is nowt wrong
  21. Few I know too not riding the bike in the entry list, so ishy can you count them on Sunday night and give us a proper number Your not off till late on Monday so you don't need an early night

Matches the rusty gear lever , bit of jif and a toothbrush will sort that then fill it full of silicone sealant to stop it rattling

    Rev3 Thermostat

Check coolant level, and leave as it is for the next time you ride. The fan should come on, if not the coolant will boil and start coming out of the overflow. If this is the case then join the wires together the fan will run constantly and be fine, the coolant may need topping up, be carefull taking top of as it will be hot. I have runn for several hours with the wires joined and fan running constantly, change thermostat ASAP. If fan does not run with the wires joined then it may be the regulator or the fan itself.
