  1. I'll go dig it out, back later with another rant, as you all love them so much
  2. Indeed, I was born to farming parents, in Wales before we moved up here. I was shooting 12bore shotguns when I was no older than 7 or 8, an driving farm vehicles at the same age, because it was needed... I was taught how to do it safely, and was told about the consiquences if I misused it. Yes, I was a bit weary for the first couple of times, but it became habit, and it was done safely. I know kids, and even adults who are scared to even go in a car, driving or not driving... Im guessing it was because they were brought up being told that vehicles were dangerous things... Theres no point in teaching these so called "skill sets" if the person is already scared ****less of the thing. Its like me with the trials bikes... I've been riding trials since I was five, and I was taught how to ride in a straight line, taught how to go round in circles, then told to go off, and practice what I like.. But I was told, if im stupid, or come off, its gonna hurt. So I did, I went off and practiced, and practiced how to ride over small areas of rocky terrain, with the rocks getting bigger as I progressed. Theres kids round here who are scared to even ride a pushbike, because they weren't taught the basics, and therefore never rode, and therefore never came off, so that fear of falling off is still with them... As soon as you fall off once or twice, you'd be fine, and would endeavour not to do it, but these kids... they wont even get on a bicycle to try. Anybody see a connection between Nanny States and Obesity? I would go on about this, as I had to do a study for school, but I fear I may bore you.
  3. I have these in sizes ranging from 10mm to 35mm, dont think its a one off. If your implying that, that was how the peice was broken, think again... I hadn't even thought of removing that side until a day or two ago, strong beleiver in using all the right tools, hence why I was waiting for a clutch holder to hold the gearbox still...
  4. One of my youtube subscribers posted a video about this the other day, but he's American... same difference, it focused on the fear driven into children these days, but also covered this topic.. Sums it all up pretty well I reckon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dE4UgY7lgI Okay, maybe not... but still worth a watch!
  5. Righto, dremel the nuts and shafts lightly. Undo the nuts, find a way of removing the gears, sort the seal, forget the web, trim the gasket, shove her back together and test... Got it.
  6. An electric one, 12v, half inch. I got the clutch nut off last time using one, when I found out the basket was on with the washer in the wrong place. Came off easy as pie! And i'll of got the proper holding tool back by the time im reassembling, my mate has one but he's away for a few weeks. The pinion gear, if i remember from splitting the cases on my 06, is a ******* to remove.. Someone said to loop some string around the bottom, and turn the shaft backwards and forwards as you shimmy it up the shaft with the string? That comes after trying the classic method of pulling as hard as possible. I have plans to try and make my own clutch holder later today to save waiting, but its no hassle really to wait. No desperation. But I have a stack of old clutch plates, so maybe 2 steels, and 2 friction plates together, with 2 bolts through, onto a handle of sorts? Or theres a beta one on ebay for
  7. I have the chunk, it was sitting underneath the clutch basket... Peice was maybe damaged when my clutch decided to fly around the inside of the bike, it has probably then been weakened further by impact, as I have been practicing a lot of splats recently... I remember hearing a loud rattle after hitting the sump on an edge rather hard once. Maybe this did it? It doesnt appear to of caused any damage. Ordered a new impact gun as I cant get hold of a clutch holder or flywheel holder... and dont have the material to make one up at this moment in time. Should be able to investigate further monday, or tuesday. Neo - This bike was ran without a breather pipe up until the leak appeared, then with the pipe on, the leak continued.
  8. On my keihin 28mm, there was a lug that needed ground right off for the carb to fit on the bike... Is this not on the OKO too? Cheers! Was expecting some stupid price, they look quite smart... Going to invest in one me thinks.
  9. Okay, no pics as USB cable has decided to go on it's fall vacation... Will find out where it is if and when it sends a postcard. So for now I'm gonna leave you with what I have so far as a quick refresher... Lumpy Idle Rich - Lean variations No leaks around manifold Slight smokyness Oil leaking from top crankase breather Leak under pressure Leak continues until 150-200 cc's of oil remain. No Coolant lost Recent water pump seal replacement Recent clutch retaining nut replacement Chunk of inner casing missing No cracks around this part of casing, apparant after penetrant test. Work has halted for a while though, as the clutch basket holder is on back order from the factory so have to wait for this to remove the primary drive gear... Also needing a flywheel holder, got the puller, no holder... Will knock one up and sort out flywheel side on friday or saturday. As for clutch side, will delve further into the casing damage and sort the seal out whenever the holder arrives. Going to burn out muff and clean frontpipe whilst it's all apart too... theres a lot of play in kickstart shaft, is this ment to be? its tight when outer casing is on, but really loose when casing is removed. Cheers, Jamie Edit: Butchered Ham's pic... chunk is missing from the red line, to the bottom of the peice... goes right back to the casing.
  10. Off topic, I know.. but a few questions on the clear bowl. Where do I get one? How much do they cost? What are they made from? They any good? Do they have the part that needs ground off? My guess here is yes. Cheers, Jamie
  11. Hmm, good thinking... Magnifying glass shows up nothing, will do a penetrant test tommorow. Pictures are late but will definately be up later, cant find usb cable. The peice broken off is about 1cm, no bigger.
  12. Tony - Yeah, It is the bike which the retaining nut came loose on... But the basket was removed and everything was checked for damage, no sign of anything flying around in there. Ham2 - No, the bit at about 2 o'clock, above the crankshaft gear... only the end broken off, maybe a 1cm peice? im reckoning I can get away with filing it smooth and trimming up the gasket, I'm guessing its so oil drips right onto the gear itself? Shall get pictures in an hour or so.
  13. So, I stripped off the case today, to see something scary... Very scary. Inner casings broken, on the sticky out bit that goes between clutch basket and main drive gear... Whats this for, can i trim up the new gasket and live without it or is it a case of trying to get it welded/remachined.. or new case if required? Will get pictures tommorow, not in the mood tonight.
  14. Shireen, is that you? I beleive kinell on here knows mallaig quite well, aint that true boys?
  15. That'll be our travelling fraternity then... *******s
  16. Gordon Brown was looking for a lady of the night. He found three such girls in a local pub, a blonde, a brunette and a redhead. To the blonde he said, 'I am the Prime Minister of England. Now how much would it cost me to spend some time with you?' She replied,
  17. THIS IS LABOUR GOVERNMENT REST OF THE WORLD VERSION: The squirrel works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building and improving his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the squirrel is warm and well fed. The shivering grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold. THE END ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LABOUR GOVERNMENT THE UK VERSION The squirrel works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the squirrel is warm and well fed. A social worker finds the shivering grasshopper, calls a press conference and demands to know why the squirrel should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others less fortunate, like the grasshopper, are cold and starving. The BBC shows up to provide live coverage of the shivering grasshopper; with cuts to a video of the squirrel in his comfortable warm home with a table laden with food. The British press inform people that they should be ashamed that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so, while others have plenty. The Labour Party, Greenpeace, Animal Rights and The Grasshopper Council of GB demonstrate in front of the squirrel's house. The BBC, interrupting a cultural festival special from Notting Hill with breaking news, broadcasts a multi-cultural choir singing 'We shall overcome'. Ken Livingstone rants in an interview with Trevor McDonald that the squirrel got rich off the backs of grasshoppers, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the squirrel to make him pay his 'fair share' and increases the charge for squirrels to enter inner London . In response to pressure from the media, the Government drafts the Economic Equity and Grasshopper anti Discrimination Act, retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The squirrel's taxes are reassessed. He is taken to court and fined for failing to hire grasshoppers as builders for the work he was doing on his home and an additional fine for contempt when he told the court the grasshopper did not want to work. The grasshopper is provided with a council house, financial aid to furnish it and an account with a local taxi firm to ensure he can be socially mobile. The squirrel's food is seized and re distributed to the more needy members of society, in this case the grasshopper. Without enough money to buy more food, to pay the fine and his newly imposed retroactive taxes, the squirrel has to downsize and start building a new home. The local authority takes over his old home and utilises it as a temporary home for asylum seeking cats who had hijacked a plane to get to Britain as they had to share their country of origin with mice. On arrival they tried to blow up the airport because of Britain 's apparent love of dogs. The cats had been arrested for the international offence of hijacking and attempted bombing but were immediately released because the police fed them pilchards instead of salmon whilst in custody. Initial moves to return them to their own country were abandoned, because it was feared they would face death by the mice. The cats devise and start a scam to obtain money from people's credit cards. A Panorama special shows the grasshopper finishing up the last of the squirrel's food, though spring is still months away, while the council house he is in, crumbles around him because he hasn't bothered to maintain the house. He is shown to be taking drugs. Inadequate government funding is blamed for the grasshoppers' drug 'illness'. The cats seek recompense in the British courts for their treatment since arrival in UK . The grasshopper gets arrested for stabbing an old dog during a burglary to get money for his drugs habit. He is imprisoned but released immediately because he has been in custody for a few weeks. He is placed in the care of the probation service to monitor and supervise him.. Within a few weeks he has killed a guinea pig in a botched robbery. A commission of enquiry, that will eventually cost
  18. So, Clutch side casing is off, was pretty lose really, but that gasket was fine. All centre case bolts nipped right up tight. New crank seals are here, brown, definately viton. Will remove old seals once I get hold of a clutch basket holder and flywheel puller, will check the colour and if black possibly do a bit of research. Will note back.
  19. My guess is there running a more refined shock, like the Ohlins? Possibly a progressive spring, so the harder you bounce, the stiffer the sus!
  20. Right, No play flywheel side, guessing the bearings fine, seal may not be however, but if the bearings fine wear shouldn't be excessive on the seal. Clutch side, rattle slightly when running, definately main bearing, so chances are, clutch side seal is shot. Agreed? So, any way I can remove this seal and bearing without splitting the cases, or is it bad news? left side casing off again, or is it a case of, well.. splitting her down the middle? Any tips to keep in mind, and will definately do both sides as theres no rush to be getting out riding soon again. Might whip the top end off and check clearances, freshen her up. Cheers, Jamie
  21. Did the trial today, blocked off my breather, she survived and didn't miss a beat, well... she went from lean to rich a few times but nothing a dab of choke wouldnt fix. Now then, what should I do, remove flywheel & stator, replace that one seal without splitting everything, or split it, change both seals, and reassemble with a new center gasket?
  22. Had a quick read through these past few posts, Cope... The bike only seems to do it after the fans cycled in and out a few times, so she's definately warmed up, and it's too long for it to just be the expansion during warm up. I held the breather pipe vertical for a minute or so, and kept the engine at a high idle... This pipe is about bar height and the oil still managed to work it's way to the top. Blocked off the breather for todays trial then we shall be doing the seals straight after. If this does not cure the issue, im guessing I should change the centre case gasket, yes? I'm guessing that it's almost definately a leak from the crank case, the higher the revs, the faster, and with more pressure the flow. The lower, no flow atall. I have no noticeable loss of compression atall. I use either proper motorcycle oil, or atf occasionaly... IIRC it's 15w40 ATF at the moment, but not cheap stuff. Around
  23. So, bit of testing shows that the leak is pressurised, the bubbles were formed in the water, rate of one small bubble, maybe the size of a pea every one second. The rich/lean problem appears to be solved, it bogs a bit in the higher gears but it should be tuneable out. The leak still has me baffled though. Crank seals or centre case gasket? Or should I just do the whole cabum and do seals, bearings, the lot? Bearing in mind the bike was ridden hard before I got hold of her, Jono Richardsons 08 bike... hammered me thinks. Runs well though, i just have this rather annoying problem of draining gearbox's. The long hose up over the cdi bracket and down seems to of done the trick to get me through tommorow's trial. Will investigate further afterwards.
  24. Yeah I do, but the funny thing is that the oil had been in the bike for a few days, and its only just started doing it... bike hasnt been on its side atall recently.
