  1. So spoke to Lampkins today and they were really helpfull. They have some 250cc bits lieing around from when they converted some bikes to 300cc and are willing to sell those. Just need to completely strip it now and have a look at what bits I do need to bin and what can be salvaged. Spike was it just the piston and barrel you replaced along with the odvious gaskets etc? Lampkins have said I can take one of the spare pistons and barrels from them for
  2. So went out riding today, had a pretty big off but all appeared ok so I carried on riding. The bike suddenly spluttered and stalled, kick start was stuck right at the top of its stroke. Upon further inspectiom this evening it would appear I have somehow damaged the cooling system and caused it to leak as there is no coolant in it what so ever. I checked the level last week and it was fine - today is the first time I have ridden it since. I am pretty convined that the piston is seized at this point.....Going to take it apart properly this weekend to confirm this. I havent being this depressed about anything in a while, I darent even phone lampkins to find out how much replacement parts are going to set me back i think it will make me want to cry Any one had any similar experiences? I havent had a close enough look yet but I just cant beleive it drained the coolant without me noticing. Mike
  3. Same here really, only difference being I used 40w oil, did seem to make the clutch a bit lighter, even still though, your taking your life into your own hands starting it in gear
  4. I am assuming so, I currently run a red 06 rev 2t mudguard on mine Cheers
  5. Yeah, that gear box thing sounds a bit strange, Ive heard of a few problems with them but never a gear box exploding!! If I were you I would phone lampkins, explain to them you are definately buying a beta but at the minute cant decide over a 2t or 4t. Ask them specifically about the gear box, I would be interested to know the answer also Cheers Mike
  6. Same opinion here really. I have an 08 250 4t and Im really pleased with it so far. Ive been running it about 5 months now with no issues at all. When I was looking into getting one initially from speaking to dealers the 07 version seemed to have a few niggles - But most of these will have being fixed under warranty back in 07 etc. Its just if you look at the 07 you need to find out whether they were sorted as odviously the warranty would no longer apply
  7. Hows everyone go about fastening their bikes to the trailers? I am slightly worried about the amount of pressure I seem to have to put the straps under to secure it and remove most of the suspension sag? At the minute I send a strap through either side of the Fork lower crowns and then one from each side of the frame above the foot pegs to fasten the back down. Ive being thing of building a sump stand for the bike and strapping it too that, but then I guess the bike has no cushion from the suspension? Cheers
  8. That sounds fair then. Whats the idea behind it? And whats the general feeling about people who aren't particularly local joining up?
  9. Slightly off topic but I spend quite a lot of time up the scarborough way due to work and have heard good things about there club and the land that they have use of. I looked on their website a while back and it said about having the consent of a commitee member to join or something? Whats the score, can anyone join up and have the use of the venue? I would most likely enter a couple of the trials as well if I was up there on work during the week. Can anyone shed any light? cheers Mike
  10. Thats good enough for me then, the local shop gave me 10w40
  11. I had the same problem with the oil for my 4t. The local bike shop mechanic advised me that normal 4 stroke oil(I cant remember the weight of it) would be fine. He seemed to think that the heavier oil they recommend was due to the high temperatures in spain??? As of yet I have not followed his advise, but does anyone else have any opinion on this?

    Beta Rev 3

Yeah, its always best to run them on premium anyway, Im pretty sure the betas owners manual specs that you only use premium unleaded. It does in mine anyway, cheers
  13. Out of interest what are you guys paying for insurance?
  14. There has always being a guy near me (the flockton area) who builds trials frames for a living. About 8 years ago I apporached him to build a mountain bike frame for me, and he was very keen to give it a go. He mentioned then that he could build a frame for anything, it was just he only really got custom orders for the old stuff. He was quite old when I spoke to him so I do not even know if he is still working. Like I said though, he would have being willing to build anything, the frames he had in when I was there were extremely well made, the welding was perfect. I can't see why a frame like the new gasgas would be too hard for someone skilled to reproduce with their own take on it. BTW, he was building with T45 steel Cheers
  15. As a rule I would say avoid it. When I first got into trials I bought a "cheap" GasGas, the thing nearly drove me up wall, I ended up spending more time fixing it that riding it. I managed to put up with it for a while and saved up some money then spent a couple of months looking around before dropping on a genuine light use bike and paid a bit extra for the privelage. I haven't had any problems so far!
  16. Dans post from ages back is great, I have just purchased an 08 rev4 and the clutch is extremely on/off. Last night my old man had his first go on the bike and it went from under him as he was used to my old gasgas that had miles of clutch modulation. Im going to be doing that this weekend, just need to find a jewellers file Mike
  17. That is one of the best vids I've seen on there, how the F*** he managed to stop when he made it to that rock is beyond me
  18. Its a very interesting technology, I wonder if any of the major trials companies have done any research into it yet? Those oset things are in my local store and I've never really stopped to look at them properly but going from the video on that site they look pretty amazing. Does anyone have any one on one experience with them? What is the battery time like etc? Cheers
  19. Same experience here really, the intro was a bit rubbish, but the riding more than made up for it. TBH though I arent really fussed about all that, it was just great to see Dougie riding so well. Bou was undelevable at times though! I thought it was funny how the commentators couldnt really get the crowd geared up but as soon as the riding started everyone got well into it - sort of shows that most people were more bothered about the riding!
  20. Hey guys and merry christmas! So I've just been dusting my 2003 TXT 280 Edition off ready for a new years day ride and it seems to have developed a rattle when I started it up. This may have been there before but I have only just noticed it. It seems to be coming from the front of the bike and almost sounds like its in the engine which is worrying me a little. A friend of mine described the noise as "chain rattle" to give you an idea of what it sounds like. I am by no means a mechanic but grasp the basics so I will most likely take it into the local shop in the new year when normal opening hours are resumed, but I just wanted a bit of a heads up as too what it might be as its really playing on mind. Before any one asks everything in the area seems tight etc, I had the fuel tank off so I could get a good look in there and couldn't spot anything at all that might be loose. So any one any ideas or is this guna hurt me in the wallet department Edit: I did a bit of a search on here and a lot of people say its normal for the clutch to rattle, however, this does not stop when you pull the clutch? Cheers Mike
  21. Awesome, thanks for the quick replys. Yes the plastics say txt 280 edition 03, which would explain it. The only numbers in the frame reg are vtrgg in that order. Thanks
  22. Hi, this is my first post so go easy on me! Basically, I have a txt280 that was given to me by my dad as he doesnt use it anymore. After competing for years in Cycle trials I gave that up and have got into moto. I want to road register the bike but need to know the year, the plastics say 03 but I have a feeling the bike is a bit older than that as it does'nt seem to have the same lines as the 03 ones I have seen on the net. I have the frame number which i figured should recognise it, but which digit is it? Cheers Mike
