I have ridden the 125 Sherco and 125 Scorpa both for more than six month each, I will agree with you that the off the shelf trail bike motor wasn't as good as the 125 trials motor, but it wasn't far off, Sherco based the 3.2 on the two stroke bottom end, will they make a 250, 125 I don't know ?
How do they restrict section severity at world championship level, one way would be to restrict the bikes which they are doing and creating eased lines for those bikes, or if the rules state all youth riders must be on 125 four strokes, then you will again be saying it's amazing what they can do on those things.
Why is the negative always the reply, it can't be done on one of those, the two stroke will always be better, well get your two stroke up to the ssdt next year and we'll see how much better it is.

TY yam 250 mono, only sold as a 350 in the states, don't under estimate how many will go for more CC's, it's a powerful selling point.
How anyone can say what the pollution law for 2010 will be is beyond me, couple of weeks back it looked like trials in the UK would be all but ended.
If anyone who has spent a decent amount of time on the new generation fourstrokes who can't see the potential of these machines in the next few years, will probably be scratching their head and wondering what happened to the two strokes in the next few years.
Compare first year fourstroke reliability to that of some first year two strokes built in the last five years.
Those of you who want to stick with your two strokes, that's great in my book, but don't try sell me on what you think I or any other person should ride because things are not going how you think they should in the world of trials bike development.
I'm ride a fourstroke, because I have more fun on it than I do riding a two stroke, why do you ride your bikes, high retainers, all the bakini clad babes you attract, or the recognition the world sports media give you

it says on the bottle could be harmfull or fatal if swallowed.
But knowing the witches pee you drink down south, I'd say fill thi wellies.

Has anybody had an experience with this stuff ?

I don't think it will hold it's value like the last RTL I bought, that was still worth it's original cost when it was 15 year old.

I can't take any credit for the hot start mod, I think that was RE500's idea.
-
The 125 Scorpa is also machined to except an electric starter, wouldn't the wife love that!! fire her up at a touch of a button.
-
At this time the majority of trials spectators are in fact trials riders or connected in some way, I agree with Woody, the indoor series is for the trick stuff, let the outdoor series be just that!! an outdoor series, if trials like Duluth can take more marks and be less dangerous, then doesn't it make sense to use that type of section.
I was jazzed watching Duluth ran round like a kid following the top riders in the creek and natural sections, the two man made I never bothered watching, one I don't think was cleaned all day, and only one or two riders got through the thing, the end result of man made outdoors will be even less riders competing and a series which will deter even the keenest followers from attending, whets the point of going to an event when you have seen one you have seen them all.
When an ex world champ says they wouldn't walk to the end of the street to go see one nower days, just about sums the job up.

I would like a set, and could get my brother to send you a cheque in pounds so no exchange problems, if you email me an address to send it to I will give you my details, factor in the shipping to the US around a tenner I would think.
TC PM me for email address.
Lewisport USA sells a lot of aftermarket stuff, maybe he would be a good contact to sell the product over here.
Nice work, Ishy.

Good after sales service is what keeps loyal customers.
If you go get your hair cut and someone does a good job, you go back, now say that person has a day off and you go in again expecting the same cut and another person cuts your hair making a real pigs ear of it, your not pleased and may go somewhere else next time, when in fact the person who normaly does the good job did nothing wrong.
Same goes for this case, did the same person work on your bike? your work sheet should have the name of the tech working on your bike.
Also in most cases the dealer wants to know if your not pleased about any service, it also works the other way, and telling them that the extra little touches they do on your machine is why you prefer going to them for a service, sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it that matters.

Truth is more power and/or race version will sell, the econo clubman bike may be perfect for the job, but why buy that, "for an extra $100 / month you can ride the same as the world champs do sir, now if this fire breathing monster doesn't kill you, the repair cost will"
When Dabster said it's another TLR 250, he was right!! when the TLR 250 came out it was plush, reliable and an excellent clubman's bike, but bad timeing the Yam mono came out and that was the way most went, the Yam too was a reliable clubmans bike.
The 4rt is 20 years later with the latest technology, but again a plush, reliable clubman's bike.
What will be the best selling 4 stroke in 06 ? the most reliable? the most powerful? the most expensive?.

Congratulations and good health

Reading the GG report on the event, even Raga said he was worried after seeing Doug crash, it also mentions in the reports of four minders hanging from ropes and catch nets for the bike and riders.
I wasn't at the France event, but I was at Duluth and that event was won on over twice as many points on the first day, tough sections high scoring event but didn't need the do or die steps to take the points.
Who are they trying to attract, the blood hounds who go see motorcycle stunt jumps, on the off chance some poor bugger will top himself, is this what future trials need to be like to attract media coverage, will the death of a rider get more.
-
Well said Cota, rat's and sinking ship come to mind, dry your eyes and move on!! Doug will and probably all ready has.
All the best with the new Baby Doug, I can't say what it must be like to win a world round or even the championship, but a new baby will be right up there.
-
Nice looking bike, glad to see they have gone perimeter frame.
-
The top lads will still be producing results for a few years yet, and they won't let the kids have all their own way.
I don't think it will be a Spanish top five, young James Dabill looks to be on course for a promising future in the world championships, plus more young riders will come along.
-
No mention of Fajardo on the poll, hell of a ride back to form from injury, Raga's chance of a outdoor world championship is this year, me thinks it will be his last chance to be in front of Fajardo.
Hot item come contract time next year.

ask those who don't own one, they know ten times more than I do about them.

Got a bit of a panic on yesterday, thought I had buggered it, was removing the valve cover and as posted in this forum it was too close to remove without removing the radiator and engine mounts.
Anyway when I was taking the side plate off that supports the cam it was a little tight and pulled the cam out of it's housing, "****" thought I would now need to remove the flywheel and start from scratch to re time the thing, so to the flywheel cover off only to find I had no flywheel puller to fit it, "*****" more"****"
What do I do know removed the cam chain tensioner and the job lot just slipped back into place, slapped her all back together and she fired up first kick
The didn't replace the shims has they have not arrived yet, the intake was fine but the exhaust was a couple of thou on the slack side, easy to check if you make sure the cam stays in place when removing the side cover, measure the valve clearance, then slide the rocker shaft out, remove shim measure and replace with new shim of correct thickness.
I would think the reason the auto valve lifter may not work in some cases is because it's need to move freely, taking the cover off and checking valves probably just frees it up enough to allow it to oporate properly, the cam cover is shimmed to allow correct clearence on the cam shaft without binding.

Thank you JM, I did ask Paxau, and he said 3kg, it was the conversion I was looking for.
Now I find my Torque wrenches one in inch pounds only goes up to 2.5 kg and my bigger wrench doesn't start until 5.0
So I went out and bought a new one that has the kg scale and I can now set at 3kg without converting.
I also discovered that when I got the bike home the only straight fuel I had was for the lawn mower and that was only 87 octane, poor quality, this made the bike harder to start, the next day I bought race fuel high octane and more stable, the starting improved greatly with that one change.
Comparing the sherco to the Mont, I would say the Mont is higher tech and a bit of an hybrid, not like the old rtl but not far from a two stroke, where the Sherco gives me more of the old four stroke feel I got from my RTL.
Both bikes will do well and in my opinion 4 stroke machines will soon be the most common at events, and France will unveil yet a third full blown stroker to hit the market this year.
Last night in a mid week evening club event, the first five places in the expert class were all four stroke machines, all Mont except one sherco due to the availability at this time, but that will soon change and the 06 Sherco 4t will be a much sort after machine.
It is good we can transfer our findings over the forums like the very first batch of Sherco's in 1999 had the air breather tube inside the case and if overfilled with oil caused problems, the next batch of machines had this changed, little things like this will get sorted by the factory as the machine evolves, but there is something about testing ideas and theories that adds to the enjoyment of trials bikes.

The truth is Krash, you are not responsible to make all well in the world of trials, if it is making you feel bad about the game, do what most do, go ride and have fun at events without getting involved with the political side.
-
JM, I wonder if you could do me a favor and find the head bolt torque spec, and translate into inch pounds or Newton meters.
The tip sheet recomends you re torque head bolts, but I don't have the spec.
-
Good info on removing the radiator Howard, lots of usefull tips from the forums, also the odd bit of tripe I see
-
Plugged pilot, will it start easier hot with the choke on ? easy test.

I think I just watched the best world round I have seen, ten out of ten for all involved, I want to come back and see another at Duluth, what the organizers must have been through before and during the event must of been overwhelming, but they produced a cracker.
The majority of sections could be ridden without a catcher and minder in the section and they were not allowed in, lower ranked riders could get through sections for a three as well as the top ranked riders so the high scoring event compared to today's standards didn't have such a big gap in scores, very tough sections but those with determination got through with hard earned three's instead of fives at the first silly step that stop all but a few, that seem to be the norm in many WR in recent years.
Sections were all good to get too, so following the top lads it was possible to see them ride 12 on the first lap, I stayed down in the stream sections and ran like a blue bottomed fly on the second lap to see them ride the same 12 again, it truly was an first class exciting event.
I saw Doug do the mega get off, and thought it was over for him for the day, but Doug being Doug climbed back on and proceeded to put in the best lap of the second day, he was on the ball at the end of the first lap and was going for gold!! he got the big step and just about completed the
section when he went for a dab on the tricky exit, unfortunately his foot slipped and he was by this time at the top of a rock the size of a terraced house, the minder dived and grabbed the front wheel and was trying to support the weight of the bike and Doug, all slid from his grasp and Doug did a high stepping act trying to grab tree branches on the way down, to come back the way he did was amazing.
The works bikes are performing now and it shows, another thing the smell and the sound of those bikes did get the old blood up and was exciting to watch.
No excuses for any rider I saw, both winners earned the first place on the day and what a pair of days it was, did someone say it was raining? I never noticed.
Big thanks to all for a great week, DO IT AGAIN!!!
