  1. The Techno should be fun. 70 to 1 synth oil is the stuff you want to use. I have used ATF in the tranny with no problems. Different types will give a different clutch engagment feel. Some more grabby than others. I'm pretty sure the techno has MG engine cases. So electrolisis will be a concern. I have been told that any good automotive antifreeze coolent will do fine mixed with distilled water or the premixed type. Remember to change it often. Cant say about the trials clubs in UK. I'm sure the local bike shop knows where to find one.

    Oily Rev 3

What year subfraime and airbox did you use too replace the 2000-2001 setup with. Is one year more preferable than another?
  3. What perfect timing for your topic. I have an 01 Rev3 250 with a similar issue. The fan and the lights will not turn on. I will have to troubleshoot it the same way you did. What is the resistance value of the voltage regulator and the generator. Please let us know what you find and how you resolve the issue. Livio
  4. Thanks Bigwig. I was going to pull the flywheel to see what the screws held in place before removing them. Has any one used the high altitude base gasket. If so what was your impression of the motor after the compression bump. I ride at 7,000' and up. It may have the thin base gasket installed now as the gasket is very thin and my Evo has a very thick base gasket installed. I spoke with Ron Como Sr. of USA Beta yesterday, and he said that both bikes use the same base gasket.
  5. Thanks Anyoldiron. I stopped by the local bike shop after work to get a new sparkplug and it turns out that the recomended plug for the 01 250 Rev3 is BPRES. Correct or not thats what the parts lady's book recomended. After installing the new sparkplug the motor runs much smoother. I think the plug that came in the bike was fouled as the motor did not run very smooth. My 290 EVO uses a BR7ES.
  6. What spark plug for a 2001 beta rev3 250. The plug thats in it is champion RN7YC. I looked on beta usa and no info. Also where can i find a downloadable parts catalog for this bike. There is a parts catalog on beta usa but it is very difficult to see the images and its not in english. Also After removing the ignition cover i noticed that there are four phillips screws screwed into the in the flywheel in a square pattern. Are these screws holding a flywheel weight in place on the inside of the flywheel? Thanks Livio

    Suspension Travel ?

Depending on how much you weigh this may or may not work for you, but it should get you close. Try setting the rear preload so that the rear suspension will settle about ten to fifteen millimeters under the bikes own weight from fully extended. Then adjust the front fork preload so it matches or feels similar to the rear setting with you aboard. The front probobly wont settle under the bikes weight and will have to be set by feel with you aboard. It may be a good idea to check the oil level in each fork leg to see if they are set at the factory setting. 120 millimeters spring side and 60 millimeters rebound side with the springs removed and the forks fully compressed. A few millimeters up or down will make a large difference in bottoming feel and feel through the midstroke.

    Exhaust Clean Out

Is it necessary to reinstall the wire wool in the midbox considering there is packing in the silencer? Or does the wire wool help with silencing the motor.

    Evo Fork Spring

After getting the spring preload adjusting screw to stop leaking fork oil. I did more testing and have found the .71 fork spring to work very well. I now have 1.25 turns of preload dialed into the spring. Scratch the .69 for a 250lb. rider.
  10. I have been using a Giro Remedy bicycle trials helmet for a year with no problems. Their $99 on the webb. The visor is outa the way. Hereswhat it looks like. http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/pro...uct/remedy-9784

    Evo Fork Spring

The stock fork spring is .61kg earlyer model evos were softer.

    Evo Fork Spring

These fellas made the rear spring. MCR 8106782617. They made me a front .71kg spring to match the heavy rear spring. With the .71kg i cannot dial in any preload because of where i have the rear spring preload set. I have to adjust firmess by adjusting oil height using Redline oil like water. I was able to get the suspension set to work very good but I recomend a .69kg if you weigh as much as me. If you are heavyer than me I will gladly trade you my .71kg for a .69kg as you will be very happy with my .71kg spring.

    Evo Fork Spring

Did the spring have a number written on the end of the sprng face? If so what was it. How long is the spring with no preload on it and how many turns of preload do you currently have dialed in now. Have you had an oppertunity to remove the fork caps and remove the spring and with the forks collapsed all the way measure from the top of the fork tube to the top of the oil to see where the oil level is currently set. If it's not set to the factory specs, reset it. 120mm spring side and 60mm non spring side 5wt oil.

    Evo Fork Spring

I think can help you. What weight is the rear spring that you have and where did you get it. If you got the spring from Scott Debolt which spring did you get?

    Evo Fork Spring

I had to Install stiffer springs in my 290 suspension to hold up my 250lbs. I had an oppertunity to ride two stock evos back to back with mine. Adding firmer springs makes the suspension feel much plusher while adding bottoming resistance. The stock suspension feels like it has mountain bike rubber bumper springs in the suspension compared to firmer springs. What do you weigh? If you dont think you need a firmer spring for the rear you may be able to raise the fork oil level to increase the bottoming resistance without changing the speed of the compression action in the forks. A few millimeters will make a big change in Mid stroke and bottoming feel. Have you checked to see where the oil level is set now? My oil level was low on both fork legs from the manual specs.

    Evo Rear Shock

I have heard that you can have the rev3 shocks rebuilt through the beta dealer network. Basicaly you give them yours and they give you a refreshed shock. But you might try your local suspension tech first to see if he can rebuild it.
  17. I have been using one of these for the past year of riding. It seems to have plenty of visibility. http://www.xsportsprotective.com/giro-remedy.html

    Evo Rear Shock

I cant say for sure but I'm thinking just the spring is firmer for the 2010. Considering what the shock is used for i dont think they made any internal changes. I installed a firmer spring on my 09 shock and the compression damping is still fine. I did have to add a little bit more rebound control. I sure wish that Beta factory would give us a shock that we could easily take apart and service ourselves. Since the shock body and piston are made of aluminum i would like to be able to change the shock oil often. This would also allow me the ability to tune the shock if i wanted to.

    Jetting For Evo

I would have to go look to be certain , but i think my airscrew is set at 2-2 1/2 turns out. When i first got my 290 i started fidling with the jetting and i tried a smaller #45 pilot because of my air screw setting and i lost a little torque. So i put the 48 back in. I even tried a smaller main and the motor slowed up on its rev while climbing a grade at wot. So i put the #125 main back in. I found i only needed to adjust the needle to the 4th clip and i think it could be left in the 5th clip and be fine from sea level to where i ride at 9000'. I just rememberd that when the dealer and i set up my bike he lowered the floats. I dont know how much. Maybe just a few millimeters. He did this to keep fuel from spilling out the overflow lines too easily.
  20. The screw on the shock is for rebound adjustment. In the cd manual it says it adjusts compression. I had to have a firmer set of springs made for my weight of 250 lb's.

    Jetting For Evo

My 290 came stock with a 48 pilot, 3.5 slide, needle is stock in the 5th clip position, 125 main. I rode it at sea level with this setup and the motor ran fine. At altitude i raised the clip to 4th position.
  22. I was able to get the circlip out today and there is a flat side to it. I also discovered that there is an oring built into the fork cap. So i dunno about this. Maybe if it continues to be a leaky problem, i may try a larger diameter oring.
  23. The rear position is selected. This is the high power map on my 09 290. Oh, i did not notice Duggan answered this comment.
