My uncle has the same bike as you, bought as a sixteen year old, delievered on the train from Comerfords, still unmolested he is seventy on Monday. He uses his to nip out for the Sunday papers, as thats about as much use it is now. Years ago you may have been able to ride it in the Talmag, from what I see and read even this event would border on being too hard. Thats not to say with a little fettle as woody says you may have a days sport on it somewhere. My advice is to keep it to polish and ride like above ,but buy something else which has been breathed on a little you will find the trials to ride and have possibly more fun. Just a note... He has just sold an indentical model Matchless, bought around the same time for nine quid.. sold for a lot lot more .. who says theres no money in trials bikes...

I too had a 320, couldn t get it to run right at all.. I was told by people in the know the 250 was always easier to set up.

Yes, I saw it there..... well theres no excuse now then. The club having the trial in April are having a big pre 65 push. They want pre 65 entries, you have plenty of time to get organised, see you there.. its straight down the motorway and turn right... Right in the heart of the vineyards.......

In France we have a dedicated classic trial once a month, the next one is March, for a six month period, and where ever you live, will have to do hundreds of kms to ride it...Modern trials dont cater for classic bikes, its a political, federation type problem cum argument. A licence depending on federation is 50 euros or 200. You are soooooo lucky in the Uk with the various championships and trials most weekends on your doorsteps.. Dont moan too much it could be a lot worse.

Hi Ross, About two hours away. I am north of Toulouse and towards Bordeaux in a little town called Sarlat.

Have been thinking about buying an Ossa around the 75/76 age to compete in the Pre 77/80 class in France and Spain. Could any of the officionardos of the Marque point me in the direction of what to look out for and any sensible things/mods needed to bring it more up to date. Not interested in making it something its not..... just want it to run and ride as well as it can. Thanks in advance.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the Sardent club where organising a two day twinshock/ pre 65 trial mid june. If by chance this indeed appealed to anybody, sadly it has been for some reason cancelled.

As to using it in a clutch application, really cannot see why it cannot be used to aid ageing wrists and hands. Where is the difference when looking at all the other accepted mods.

Do a search for " Sardent Tourist information" should come up with a list of things of interest to you.

The insurance issue and bikes being licenced and fully road legal has taken a huge leap forward here in France in recent months. Lights now need to be fitted and documents are more often checked upon signing on. Bridal paths are classed as public places so bikes would need to be road legal even if the trial only kept to these and not the public highway. I would imagin the bigger multi day trials would have to use these chemin rurals.. to make up the route so finding a trial that you can enter with out ticking all the boxes would be rare. To gain a competiton licence in France you need a yearly medical and if you are a first timer, starting out, you need to take a " bike test" , offroad, to show you are competent. Hope that helps

I have a 300 Fantic fitted with a 240 WES silencer. I want to change it for something more suitable. Is another WES, but one for a 300 the only option, or is there something else that might do the trick that I dont know about. Thanks in advance

Further to this, the Sardent club are running a two day classic twinshock and pre 65 trial , 14 15th June. It uses many of the sections and route of trial discribed above and in previous years albiet a single day has been very good. Details can be found on the AFATA Trial ancienne website. Bon chance

I had a 320 Majesty and tried everything to make it run right . In then end it was sold and I bought what I should have done in the first place ... a Fantic... Very disappointed as I really like the Majesty but I think in 250 form it may be the better bet..

I have to agree, the TY in original form won hundreds of trials and unless you are a super star riding very hard trials I see no real benefit Sorting the drum so it works with new shoes and cable would be simple and very cheap to do.

I would leave it as a drum. If it is in good condition and the brake is set up correctly its excellent .

Yer, and if its all about looking like it did back in the day..... Should nt all the riders wear BARBOUR JACKETS AND TROUSERS..or a footing coat.... perhaps that should be in the regs .......A photo submitted with you in your riding gear next to the bike you intend to ride.... Its just a thought..... might trim the entries a tad......The price of Barbour jackets on ebay ........

One of the suppliers you mention at the start is busy product testing in France, last week, and possibly Spain this weekend. These are cottage type businesses so they have other things to do other than wait for the phone to ring....even if it means they might miss out on a sale..
