Bike prices - are we being ripped off

I suspect the difference is in the engine. It's a heavy(-ish) lump made in the thousands probably for very little. The Pro engine on the other hand is a specialised lightweight unit with a very small gearbox. There are also a few other more "standard" Parts like the Forks which are not the Marzocchi's found on the Pro will also add up.

why do they need to reduce thier prices? they build them and we keep buying them. supply and demand.

if there was a market for "club" bikes, a heavier less spec'd budget bike, would you buy one? i think not. because the bloke your competing against will buy the best that money can buy and beat you on sunday, then guess what, out you go and spend the money that you should have spent in the first place to get on equal machinery terms.

Do i think bikes are too expensive? you bet your a*** i do, but that wont stop me spending!

To reply to your comments,

'The money is in the motor'- one is a high quality piece of equipment, & the other is a gasgas!

Paul, the cheaper 'club bike' I use is a 35 year old nail & depending on event, goes as well as a 2010 gasgas.

Greg, I have a couple of recent stories about js that confirms what you say!

Latest bikes - Don't believe the hype.

ok we may have views on this but dont make it personal.

i'm suprised prices are going up in the current climate, everything has a limit in terms of what people will pay.

Pubs on Tyneside are now almost empty,

there are a number of factors on bike prices .

the pound lost strenghth against the euro.

the randeneur motor and other parts are made in china. lower cost's.

metal and raw material cost's went up in a big way.

TAX AND VAT and other hidden cost's,the people robbing you are the european govements and our own govement, the importers will earn a bit but you can bet the tax man has the biggest chunk.just think most modern bikes have over
