as a complete beginner to trialing the reason I got into it was a it was something I had always fancied but with work kids etc never got round to it.

then in 2011 I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and march of this year underwent open heart surgery as the condition had deteriorated to the point were I was struggling with work [railway] I and required surgery. anyways to cut a long story short I convinced my reluctant wife to book me an experience day at inch perfect trials the other side of preston I fell hook line and sinker for it and am going back jan 10th but my good lady then got me a gas gas txt 125 for xmas and have been like a 52 year old kid in a sweet shop.

so a big shout out to my missus and matt at inch perfect trials for fueling the fire.

I realise that some health conditions may require you to pack.?? it up but also there is know reason to think you can not continue as well granted I gave myself 6 months recovery time but I am able to carry on working and also discover a new great fantastic recreation as well.

No worries, we have four riders that have had by passes and one more with a pacemaker. The one that had it done in `97 was one of our top riders for years afterwards. After the surgery he took up extreme sports like Heli skiing and kite boarding. It`s all about attitude. Just have fun.

my grandfather had open hear surgery in 2011 at 82. he was missing a valve or something his whole life it became more apparent as he got older. anyway long story.they took his heart out and they kitted him out with an extra valve, from a lamb... put it back in stimulated it with electric shocks and off it goes. hes now 85 still extremely fit. up and about everyday , chainsawing . mowing lawn out for lunch. splitting logs. incredible considering his age. he occasionally has goes round the garden on my 125. loves it :)

you and your heart will love the feeling when you Finnish your first trial and start cleaning sections! good luck let us know how you get on!!

cheers for the support will be hoping to do a wobbler trial of some sort in the future but at the moment just concerntrating on getting used to the bike etc postioning balance throttle control. hence me purchasing a 125 better to ride something that you have control other than buying a larger cc bike and struggling with weight power etc.

I still have to be wary as I still have to take medication for life and one of them happens to be warfarin.for thinning the blood but a right pain if you bang bruise yourself etc .

anyways happy new year to everyone and happy trialing got a few weeks before I return to work [holidays] so will be on the bike as much as the wife permits.

it would be pointless to go any bigger the 125 is perfect in regards to power weight for handling learning etc I am 6-2 15+ stone and pulls me no problems it would be down right stupid to go any bigger at the moment and to be honest the thought of climbing rocks jumps etc would be out my league in regards to the fact I use warfarin in my treatment and it is a lifelong prescribed drug as I have an irregular heartbeat which is how I found out the valve was leaking in the first place.

my condition was put down to infection or virus related as I had the angiogram to check my arterys etc not a nice procedure believe me.

one thing I have discovered is never eat a big meal or intake to much fluid and jump straight back on the bike as it creates motion sickness you wouldn't believe [i experienced this on a trials experience day] also ice cold drinks trigger the brain freeze from hell which gives a stroke like sensation .

but once done never repeated believe me.!!!

I only created this topic in regards to anyone who had undergone same treatment or was awaiting it to say if a guy who never had rode a trial bike can take it up and become hooked on the sport even after heart surgery anyone can. all I will say its a major operation and effects young and old alike it was a shout out to anyone who has maybe under going the operation or had under gone it and left the sport you can carry on and if you have any concerns speak to your cardiology team or surgeon physio recovery team etc.

believe me I wouldn't anything that could or would result in injury to myself or anyone else who was with me I am not that stupid .as a matter of precaution I would in my humble opinion suggest the use of chest protection to avoid impact injuries to the chest but also this depends on the course your riding and obstacles your negocating

I have about 10 to 12 accumulated hrs on riding a trial bike and intend to accumulate many many more.

I had advanced cardiomyopathy and nearly died from it (now almost fully recovered) and still have pretty bad atrial fibrillation.

I had a hard time with trials at first because I was so inefficient at riding being a complete noob, I wore myself out fast.

I have a little bit of experience now and am able to slow down and not waste so much energy. It's gotten a LOT better for me.

If you can make it through the first bit, I think you will be fine as you get more efficient with time.

EE your irregular heartbeat will be due to AF which is why you need the lifelong anticoagulant to prevent clots but you would have been prescribed it with the valve anyway. Some people get away with clopidogrel for AF but as said in conjunction with the mitral replacement, warfarin is appropriate. You are right about the pharmacological consequences to these drugs but sound as if you have a sensible awareness. You will get massive benefit from the aerobic nature of trials and should not be put of building your fitness because of the surgery you have had, it will be conducive to your long term well being.
