I’m with TDA used to be called BE MOTO have you tried them? -
Hi honda_freak and greetings from downunder. Thank you for taking an interest, and for your excellent measurements. Your findings are certainly contrary to what I found. Two possibilities come to mind... 1. Maybe the early models did indeed use wasted spark ignition. But then what about the fuel injection? or 2. Maybe all of them start with wasted spark but then change to only sparking on compression after the engine is running (and it somehow figures what stroke it's on). That sounds pretty bizarre too but you've inspired me to find out. Furthermore, does it inject fuel each revolution as well. I still have all my test leads and the setup is stored in my scope. What I propose is to run a much expanded timebase (say covering 20 to 30 seconds) and then kick starting the engine and triggering the scope on the very first spark. My scope should have enough memory depth to be able to examine the first few cycles looking for a trace like yours and then search for a time were it changes to non-wasted spark. It will be an interesting exercise but I probably won't get around to it for a month or two because gets to 40°C in my shed right now. I'll definitely do more testing and report back. As a side issue, I've occasionally had the situation where the bike won't start from a hot start no matter how many times I kick it. Following advice from this forum, I open the throttle full and give one kick (to supposedly reset the ECU) and sure enough the bike starts on the very next kick. I never really believed the reset ECU story but now I'm wondering... Could the main capacitor be keeping the ECU running long enough to maintain a non-wasted spark condition but have ended up on the wrong stroke because of poor kicking or a spit back. A reset might get it back into wasted spark condition so it can start again. It would be interesting to get to the bottom of that. If testing were to show the bike runs wasted spark initially from cold before changing over, it would be interesting to turn off the bike and immediately restart it and run the same test over to see what those first few cycles look like. I don't know - it could be a load of rubbish but we'll see. Thank you again for your input. Chris. ps. I'm keen to know about your cylinder pressure measurement/transducer.

Hi aussiechris Interesting topic regarding wasted spark ignition on Honda Montesa 4RT. A few years ago I recorded some oscilloscope captures of the secondary ignition system versus compression pressure on a Honda Montesa 4RT model year 2007. It should be said that these captures were taken during kick start of the engine, which is in contrast to your measurements. But looking at this oscilloscope capture where I measure the secondary voltage on the spark plug wire versus compression pressure over two revolutions of the engine - it is clear to see the extra ignition event characterizing a wasted spark system. This was my small contribution to the discussion about wasted spark systems.

Struggle with Technical Data for Sherco X Ride 290 2017-2018
Cherokaa87 replied to Cherokaa87's topic in Sherco
I got an update. I set the pilot jet on spec and also I ordered a new jet block gasket with JJH needle. I could not define the current one, it was kind of dirty and the number was not visible anymore. So I chose it with factory specifications. I also found a reason why dirt and glue appeared in the carb. It was a cracked air box glued with a decent amount of baking soda. I also ordered a new box and rubber tube on carb. Squish is already set on 1.2 mm. So now I'm waiting for a JJH needle and jet block gasket. I will upload the PDF I'm using for keihin carb settings, if it works. - Last week

Beta Sincro Can't find insurance

Just done a quick online quote and Hastings can't find the reg number and doesn't list EM as a manufacturer. Oh well - back to the drawing board 😁 -

Yeah, one of the electric insurers listed the e-pure but not the newer model. I will try again when I renew this year as they have had a year to get their sh!t together. The other thing for me was MSM didn't want to add my road bikes so I needed to start over with the no claims discount. Glad to hear you got sorted out mate - nightmare if you needed this for the Scottish six day or anything with a road section. I might try Hastings as well as Carole Nash - mine due next month. -
Patiently awaiting my order from The Tryals Shop in New York.... once these two guards are on I'll consider the project more or less done. So grateful people out there are still stocking parts for these old machines!!
-
Front fender got melted on the exhaust at some point... smoothed it out with a grinder and got it installed back on the bike.
-
At some point someone put a different silencer on the bike... made a crude retrofit bracket out of flat steel stock to hold it away from the rear tire.
-
Can't risk damaging that OEM headlight!
-
Local guy had an OEM rear brake rotor guard in his garage.... lucky find.
-
Thought the brake pads were shot, gave them a quick 'resurfacing' on the concrete of my driveway!! Before and after pics.
-
Local welder saved the day by extracting the broken off bleeder screw on the front caliper... The caliper threads were pretty bad. Chased them with an M10-1.00 tap and ended up just using it as a plug. Jitsie banjo bolt with integrated bleeder to the rescue!!
-
The entire kickstand assembly was missing when I got the bike. So happy to find a kickstand from a local.... these are nearly unobtainable, the bracket at least. Believe anything 1994-2012 is all the same.

Carb clean... just a simple clogged pilot jet. She's a runner!!

mostexcellentdude started following Bought a $750 2000 GasGas TXT280

Picked this up last weekend as a non-running project for $750. Been working on it for the last week and she's running good now. Below is what I've had to do to it so far, it's almost done and ready to ride. I'll be doing a full youtube video on the process when I'm done - channel name is 'MrTwoSmoke'.

Makes sense - great design.

trevbul1 started following Beta Sincro Clutch spring settings...
-
Thanks to you both, v useful, I'll give it a look.

Did exactly the same on my mid 2000s shercos. I know guys who cut it completely in half down the seam, repacked it and then took it to a local engineering shop who welded it back together.

Beta Sincro Can't find insurance
trevbul1 replied to trevbul1's topic in Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc
Hi Chris, thanks for your reply. As you say, MSM wanted £400 and I couldn't get anyone over the phone to insure the bike because despite having the V5 and the bike taxed, their computers didn't recognize the registration number. I had an inspiration and went to the Money Saving Expert comparison site that eventually allowed me to enter the reg number manually by listing the Sincro as a 2026 Evo. I then went back to Hastings, the current insurer of my TRS 250 EDIT: (quoting the MSE online referencet number) and added my new bike to my existing policy for £72 extra to the end of my policy in October 2026.. I'll worry about what happens next when the time comes... Bizarrely, they said that if I sell the TRS and remove it from the policy, the premium will likely increase! Cheers, Trevor -

We had the same issue with the missus' '25 EM Factor-e (now on SORN). Eventually I spoke to a human being (insurance companies don't use them any more) and we were told that the insurers do not want to insure anything for theft without an ignition key. In the end we were offered TPF&F by MSM - they are your best bet - probably your only bet to be fair. The Factor-e was not listed by anyone even the self proclaimed "specialist" idiots that advertise they specialise in electric bikes. MSM offered us cover but it was not cheap. Both me and the missus have road bike insurance and neither broker (Bikesure missus, Carole Nash me) would touch the EM. (My policy is multi bike) My last Beta went on my old multi bike policy for just a quid extra. They would not renew it however - that was about three/four years ago IIRC. MSM was well over 400 just for the EM and my GSX650F and CRF250L are just over 200 quid the pair. I wish you good luck and hope you find someone that will cover the bike. Please post up if you do I think there are a lot of us out there. Must be a problem for the enduro bikes as well.
