  2. Wow - I think you got it! Lucky me - the PO replaced the relatively uncommon rear brake with an even *more* uncommon one. 🙂 now, where to find seals…and a new rear disc too. Knowing what it came off of might help a lot - thanks! sam
  3. Exit the original footpegs, replaced with a wider, almost contemporary (around '97) model from the Climber. Blasting and a fresh coat of paint on the levers and brake pedal. Adjustment of the fork height in the triple clamps. A short ride in the garden to get a feel for the bike and continue bedding in the brakes. The riding position is pretty good after the final adjustments. Steering angle is very good. The weight distribution puts a bit of weight on the front. It's a bike that feels quite "glued to the ground," even though it can be moved around. The fuel mixture is a little rich at low revs.
  4. Does anyone have any info on frames made for Bantams by Paul? Munslow
  5. OK, it’s obviously Grimeca, but what did it come from and where can I get pads and seals? It came off my well-used Beta TR35, at least that’s what I think it is after a lot of research. But I can’t find any reference to a 4 piston caliper/mount combo like this on *any* Beta parts list from the 88 to 92 era, at least. It fits my (steel) swingarm like it was made for it. The pistons measure 25 and 22m. Everything is in good shape except for the dust seals, which have completely disintegrated. Short term I can reassemble w/o them, but I’d much having them there, obviously. thanks for any pointers, Sam
  6. Did you buy a 434 or a newer model ? I always take the heavy fiberglass '' pan '' and replace it with a minimal seat. you should be able to find a lot of exemple on the net. Guy
  7. Add another rim lock right where the tire pops off the rim bead, if the rim actually has a bead. Guessing it is a steel rim with no bead, guessing you are running a tubed type tire on it. In my experience there is only one adhesive to safely use in tire applications and that is Fish glue. The up side of Fish glue is it's non-flammable and water soluble and re usable, the down side of Fish glue for your application is that it's water soluble. Fish glue is a fast drying, cold set, highly flexible adhesive largely used in woodworking.

  9. I'd be checking the thermostat since you are having trouble with the timing of the fan. Coolant expands when its hot, so if you have brimmed the tank when its cold it will eject some and come to its natural level after you have used it.
  10. Hey everyone! I've been searching for the perfect Gulf of Mexico themed t shirt to wear on my next coastal run and I'm having a tough time finding quality options. I want something that captures that deep blue water vibe, maybe with a vintage nautical or highway feel to it. Do any of you have recommendations on where to find the best Gulf of Mexico t shirts made for bikers? I'm looking for durable fabric that holds up on long rides, great graphics, and a relaxed fit under a jacket.
  11. Hi everyone, new to the forum so hopefully I've posted this in the correct place. I'm also new to the Vertigo club and unfortunately, I've had nothing but trouble with it. Initially it had a faulty relay, which prevented the fan coming on, and the bike over heated, boiling off a lot of coolant. I changed all 3 relays just to be on the safe side, problem solved. Ironically, now the fan is on too much. Once the bike gets up to temp, the fan comes on and doesn't turn off - So much so, that I think it's causing the battery to drain. (it's brand new and already down to 2/6 bars) I can probably add 40 - 60ml of coolant after every ride. I must have done this 5 times. My question is, where is the coolant going!? Or is it simply really hard to bleed the coolant system? I've had the front wheel up high, bike side to side, all that stuff to try and bleed it. There doesn't appear to be any smoke in the exhaust, it's burning very clean. No leaks that I can see, no puddles under the bike in the morning. I might get a couple of drips out of the overflow valve after I brim it, but doesn't look like anywhere near what I can put in (to my untrained eye). I'm at a bit of a loss, if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Will. (photo of dog and bike for attention)
  12. I had that issue with a vintage bike. It looked like it unseated in the area of the rim weld. The weld did not look that bad but I took a file and smoothed it out as much as I could. That eliminated the issue.
  13. Rear brake : new gaskets everywhere, pads, bolts and yellow plastics

    Astro model 90

Thanks for the advice, did not think of that.
  15. I have a recurring issue with the rear (tubed) tyre becoming partially unseated. There's no problem with getting it to seat initially - a bit of lube, inflate it to 60 or 70 psi and it pops on nicely, all the way around. The problem occurs after I deflate it to my normal pressure (4 psi) and ride it. A section of the bead slips off its seat, about 250mm in length. I can reseat it easily but when I deflate it back to riding pressure and ride the bike it happens again. The rim looks fine, as does the tyre itself - both are fairly new. Suggestions? Superglue and self-tapping screws?
  16. Include a photo when you’ve got it back together. Best of luck!

I'd be testing the bottom end seals.

    Astro model 90

Hi, I hope some of you more knowledgeable Bultaco owners can help. i have a model 90 that has been fully rebuilt and it’s fitted with 36mm Mikuni carburetor and new electronic ignition. Its an absolute pig to start, but when started the motor sounds strong and will happily rev to 6000 and will tick over, but when riding on the road the engine runs very erratically and will not push through 5000 revs. The engine after 1-2 miles will start to misfire and run really badly. I have changed the main jet, pilot jet and needle with no joy. I now wondering if I have a dodgy ignition system ? Any advice? thanks Mark
  19. Reassembly without the rear brake (a spacer replaces the caliper) to start the motorcycle and quickly test the clutch. It's great, it works perfectly on the first try. The clutch disengages the transmission perfectly. The fork works well. Note: To get more rebound damping, you need to loosen the center screw on the left-hand cap. The adjustment is reversed compared to many other forks.
  20. Yes to it depends on the rules set out by the organizer, the alternative to no-stop is to time limit the section. You're lucky my wife is not checking, she watches the front wheel and if it rotates backwards even a little you just 5'd.
  21. It is a shame you have to go through the pump issue. The 4rt was rock solid for it`s first 16 years. The pump issue has been around for almost 4 years now. Terrible mess.
  22. We went over a decade without being able to roll back. The rules were all over the place. Some places the good riders could hop sideways and then reposition themselves. Quite silly as it was the same spot if you would have just rolled back. The world rounds did away with the no stop about 3 years ago. Most places have gone back to the roll back is legal, but if you dab going backwards it is a 5. Finally there is a push for all trials to get the same rules. Very hard for an outsider to understand our sport.
  23. Im fairly new to trials, started in December. On one of my early events, I got penalised with a 5 for rolling backwards on a section. Not very far, maybe 10 or 12 inches. So im rather confused when I watch all the hopping about to see really good riders jumping backwards and even rolling backwards. This morning there was a clip of a rider bouncing his bike around and rolling back into a prime spot pointed out by his minder. Are there different sets of rules for club trials and national events? Im not moaning at all, just confused Cheers all
  24. The hydraulic clutch looks very nice and soft. New ignition cover and cables heat protector.
  25. Just a follow up. Been on my new (to me) 4rt for the last 3 weekends. Starting to feel at home on it, much more so than the Beta I had before. The bike feels heavier, but more predictable and more planted. I love the throttle response, im still a bit jerky on the clutch, but im sure I can iron that out in time. Its already on the bench for repair having fallen foul of the well known fuel pump issue, whether the seller knew this or not, or whether I've just got unlucky is still up for debate. I've got a new Quantum pump to go on and will do oil, filter, gb oil etc. Overall, really pleased with my purchase. Thanks to everyone that helped out.
