Can anyone help with sorting out my Cub front end geometry. The question is how much Trail do you need for a trials bike? Currently the standard frame with heavy weight Triumph forks (no trick stuff here) has @5" of trail. The bike does not like tight turns in sections, pushes on and wants to fall in to the turn - could be a bit of a rider problem as well! Looking at some websites on fork geometries it seems the less trail you have the easier it is to steer at slow speeds - sounds good. But how much is less? Any ideas on what is a good figure to aim for and how best to achieve it i.e. steepen the frame head tube, different yoke offset, raise the rear end (already done …

Is it worth converting to Taper Roller or is cup and cone sufficient?..If taper roller is worth the hassle, where can i get them?

  7. Started by nigelog,

Hi, new to trials again and slightly out of the info loop as living in Ireland. Posted an intro which should explain most. Although there does not seem to be recognised pre 65 trials in Munster I do not see that as a reason to not try to prepare my recent purchase to it's potential. Last owner has done a fabulous job, but it is always difficult to know what is needed. My first instinct is to replace the items difficult to judge wear upon - needle and jets- replace plug and adjust tappets. Starts 5/6 kicks but would love to get it in 2. Info on expected compression reading would be invaluable as therein lies the wallet factor. My major concen at present is shocks. I have l…

  9. Ok so i am in the midst of my greeves/honda project. Taking a honda tl125 engine and transplanting it into a greeves (what i think is a pathfinder) chassis. I call it Gronda.... I have heard of Hondeeves projects but i wanted to be different. So while it was down to bare chassis I decided that this thing needs a proper skid plate. My dad has another path finder and two other Anglians and his designs were not to my liking. This frame was my christmas present from him. I cant start to tell you how excited i was... <<<i am such a trials nerd! So here is what I did. I acutally did this earlier this winter but just getting around to posting it. I did this with st…

  10. Started by davetom,

Hi all, hope my questions haven`t been covered before but here goes...I fancy having a go at pre 65 Trials, I`m 39, and up til a few years ago used to do a bit of trail riding on a modern KTM,and often made the numbers up in Mid wales enduro`s. I`ve got a `65 C15 frame (road) and engine in the garage and hopefully this would form the basis of my bike. I`m ok with gas bottles, even better with angle grinders and brilliant at leaving chuck keys in lathes.... Q1.. Does pre 65 mean a `65 bike is too young or is it from when machine production run began? Q2 what sort of mods should I aim for that would leave me eligible to ride with majority of clubs( hope that isn`t too vagu…

  11. I've bought an alloy square barrel which is apparently off a Dot which is in god nick and on std piston size. The exhaust port is bridged but above the transfer ports both sides are three holes about 5mm in diameter. Dont know anything about the barrel but just wondering if anybody knew why they were there?

Hi all,now I may be mad but I have a chance to buy what I want of a partly stripped 55-56 350 matchless road bike.I've always liked Ajay/Matchie singles,(rode a 1940 ex WD G3 on girders for several years.)and I'd like to build a rigid trials bike for a few gentle summer rides. My question is what year/years of rigid frame are best to start with ? Also are the mid 50's forks the ones to use?

I would like to convert a Triumph Tiger Cub for trials. I have two Triumph Tiger Cubs basket cases. I would like to know what should be done. What forks to use? What motor mods should I do? What aftermarket trials parts are there for a cub? One of them somebody had started to convert already it is a roller.

I've seen pics of a few HT's in UK and European trials with these big squarish mags mounted on them. I thought maybe a BTH...but perhaps not? A more modern aftermarket electronic one (with a battery pack?) guys are using? I had a devil of a time sorting out my OEM Lucas competition item, which seems to by working well after one final overhaul. Just curious as to what is being used out there and advantages. Regards, Doug
