General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by mac,

Just had an Email from the Norwegian club who are running the final European round in 05 , wanting details of my club's programme from last year. Trouble is it was not my club (Macclesfield trials club) that ran the trial, so who did run the GB round in 04. I will pass on the email address to any body that can help.

I'm thinking of buying one of the hydraulic clutch conversion kits for my Climber. Has anyone converted their cable operated clutch to hydraulic using one of the kits from Hebo or Magura? If so does it make a difference to the effort required to pull the lever or modulate the clutch action. Is there a weight penalty worth considering? Is it prone to damage? opinions please?

I have a 73 Ossa MAR that I am freshening up for some vintage action. Currently the tank on the bike leaks rather badly and i am trying to do a little research as to the best method of sealing it. I've had look luck with pour sealers like Kreem and POR15 on metal tanks but this is my first dealing with a fiberglass tank. So my questions are: 1. Do the standard pour in style sealer work with fiberglass? 2. If not, what should I use? 3. What is the best way to remove all traces of premix before treating? MEK or something else. Thanks for the input and suggestions.

Went to a trial the other day and sat in a few queues. No great problem with that except for the riders who think your not allowed to turn off your bike engine once the trial has started! A few sat with engines running in queues of 10 to 15 riders till it was their turn to ride. A rider said to me if it was a business the Health and Safety officials would of shut it down! I think if you want to top yourself exhaust gasses are quite effective! It might be an idea if the ACU had some guidelines or rules eg; Bikes should be turned off except when riding or just prior to you riding a section. Might save a bit of fuel as well. Mark T

Hi all I was looking at scottish trial and a few other spanish trials shops and it made me wonder why arnt almost half of the bits there not avalable in any uk trials shops. For example on scottish trial you can buy a bieffie trials helmet in yellow, black, red, white, silver and in marc colmer replica colours! when in the uk they only come in sliver and white and loads more footpegs like orange anodised ones and meny more when over here in the uk you can only buy silver hebo ones and one or two other types Correct me if im wrong but I thought trials was more popular in the uk than anywhere else in the world!? so then why are most of the trials products not avalble in the…

I 'competed' (in the loosest possible term!!) in my first trial sunday just passed, and whilst not terribly successful..... (terrible prob the best description!) it was most enjoyable!! started off with a bit of a nightmare, clutch was slipping big-time, but this was due to me changing levers. simple adjustment would have cured it, but being all nervy, in a rush and being all fingers and thumbs, changed back to 'spare' lever, job done. my first ever section turned out to be one of the worst on the course (imho), and due to the fact i forgot to let my rear tyre down (after changing it and leaving it at 20psi!!) i managed to look a complete t*t by having about as much gri…

Ok I know Premix oil preference and ratio could be just like favorite colors, in any crowd, but I really would like to know what you all think is good. About the gas, I am able to buy from our local (auto) racing supply/engine builders, sunoco brand racing fuels. I mix this higher octane (I believe it is 106) 50/50 with regular pump gas (it is the only-non alcohol readily available and its octane is 85-86). The race fuel supplier, he has only 3 octane levels, that alcohol is NOT used in, but all of them have lead (if I recall the conversation correctly). Does this matter? I do buy the cheaper lower octane version, at about 5 bucks a gallon. For 8-10 bucks a gall…

Can anybody help with information and photo's on the bike that Armstrong developed in the mid-80's, as riden by John Lampkin ? It had an Alloy frame and was a Mono-shock with a 240/280 Rotax engine, i know that around 65 were made and badged as Armstrong and Can-Am's in 1986, and a further 10 more were made as 240cc CCM's in 1988. Thanks in advance. Gaff.

Just noticed that everybody talks about everything related with trials except the trials we all actually ride in. Perhaps we could have a forum to discuss which are the best venues in different areas of the country, which trials are worth travelling for, which are the good road trials (we have some good 2 laps of 18-20 section trials eg; Stocksbridge trial, Hipwell trial etc) that are better than many of the nationals. Which trials are not worth bothering with. Some organisers put on events which really suit beginners but you don't till you get there. What routes are provided (Hard - Clubman - Easy - 50/50). Are they what they say. Is there good route marking. Are…
