General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by bikespace,

Just spent an evening with Doughbouy stripping ......his brakes, as they were binding. It became apparent that the side furthest away from the fork leg was not retracting fully after braking. When we got it all off, it did take some pushing back with g clamps - this was even with the calipers split in half, so no hydraulic pressure. What's the norm with these? Anything you can do once they seize (a little). Left in a WD40 bath for about the time it takes to drink a beer, it does seem to have freed up a bit, but is still binding. You can see when you release the brake that one side is retracting, the other stays pushed up against the disc more. Anything that can be don…

My son is doing a project at school about hobbies. He want to do a bit on trials and has a 2-5 minute presentation to do. I'm looking for any information on the net regarding the history of the sport. I've got Bigjohn's wonderful history of the SSDT but not trials in general. When and where did trials start for instance? Anyone that can help with links or info would be appreciated. BTW my son is 12 years and needs this info tonight (1st of Feb) or tomorrow.

So now we know the result from round 3 of the world indoor championship, how come Bou didn't get a ride at Sheffield. He seens to be better indoors than out doors at the moment, he should be aloud to ride in the rest of the rounds at least.

Hi I'm just interested in peoples opinions, as I can see if there was say 100 4strokes riding in one event (it might happen in a few years) there would be a huge noise problem maybe leading to clubs losing their little precious land they've got left. Cheers Chris

I was thinking the other day (doesn't happen very often so hear me out). A heavy flywheel is useful once there's a bit of momentum (if you wanted the momentum), but having a lighter flywheel is better for zipping away from a standing start. So....I don't know whether this already exists, but how about a centrifugal flywheel: The bulk of the weight stays at the centre of the flywheel at low revs (held in by springs), and centrifugal force pushes the weights outwards at high revs. I reckon some sort of damping is needed as well to stop the weights flying out to the outside immediately when you give it some quick revs. Does it already exist? Is it a bad idea? Any othe…

When you go to buy a new car, your options are base model base price, and adding extra's adds cost. I see many posts on adding things to bikes like the fat bars, wheels with no rimbands etc, these can be personal choice or an improvement over the stock item, bottom line it comes down to cost. It must be cheaper to put the part on at the factory, than replace with an upgrade after you have bought the machine, in MX it's after market bits and a whole shed load to choose from, trials is so small aftermarket parts are not a big industry so fewer are about. What if these options were available before you bought the bike!! would you put in an order for the new machine with …

I have a problem with my bike in that it won't tickover, it just stalls. I have taken the carb to bits and blown the jets out and checked the float heights, to no avail. I have also screwed the idle speed up but it is still stalling. The filter is clean Does anyone have an idea what to try, or possible causes.

Hi my gas gas txt 280 has got broken exhaust brackets under the middle box and is blowing a bit. Its not blowing enough to make the exhaust louder as i can tell but will the bike be losing power due to it losing gas from the middle and not the end of the exhaust pipe ? The bike as been like this since i got it so i havnt noticed any power loss myself but was just wondering if the bike would pull more or be more responsive if i fixed this problem. The bike seems fine to me but if i sort the exhaust out it might feel miles better. ? what do you lot think and is this a known problem with the gas gas (its a 2000 model) any help would be great cheers.
