General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by duckwizard,

Can anyone advise on a method to seal a fiberglass fuel tank. Mine has split on the lower edge seam. Would a epoxy resin be suitable. Or can I just use the standard fiberglass resin / matt. Thanks in advance

Ive just got my new bike and ive bought a sheet of carbon fibre effect technosyl to stick on the side of the frame and swinging arm. I peeled a bit of the sheet back and it does not feel very sticky, what is the best way to stick it down making sure it stays stuck ? Thanks,

Can any one give me a ball park idea on how much weight should be added to a little motor that revs more like a MX bike than a trials bike?

  7. Started by niki,

Ive just bought a pair of xc-ting trials trousers and find that the black heat resistant patch on the inside of the knee is rough on the inside of the trousers, which is very irritating. My Hebo's had a lining on the inside of it. Has anyone else had this problem? Does it easy after washing? or should there be a lining on the inside? Thanks.

We all expect a new 4-stroke form Montesa for 2005, what about all the others? Are we now gonna have Fantic and Ossa in the competition? Will be interesting!

  9. Started by neonsurge,

I'm having recurring problems with my '99 Gasser 270. The bike starts easily (first kick, hot or cold) and runs fine at low revs. However, wind it up and she coughs and splutters like a fifty-woodbines-a-day asthmatic. Main jet clogged, right? Well, last night I stripped the carb for the umpteenth time and while I did find some crap in there, the jets were basically OK. I also checked the manifolds for air leaks and all seems to be fine. Finally I pulled the plug and it's jet black with significant carbon build up. Hmm. I removed the silencer and there's a lot of carbon and oily slime in there (and I only re-packed it a couple of weeks ago). Come to think of it, it *has…

  10. Started by jimmyk,

I am in the market for new bars and am wondering which way to go. I have a 03 Sherco 2.0 with the stock Domino bars. I have read other posts about modifying Sherco top clamps to accept the 1 1/8 tapered Tag and Hebo bars. I like the idea of the larger/stronger tapered bars, and have access to a great machinist . But I am not sure of the differences in the bends of the different brands of bars. The stock bend seems fine to me but who knows I may like something else even more. I am 5'8". Thanks for you suggestions. JimmyK

Just wondering what's the most popular bike in different areas of the country at the moment 'cos 'round here (NE Yorks), you can't move at a trial without tripping over a Beta! All of the dealers in the area are multi-franchise, so it's not just a case of people buying what's easily available and serviceable locally. I've spoken to one dealer about this phenomenon and while remaining pretty neutral did confirm that for him at least, Betas outsell all other new bikes 3 to 1. For the *average clubman*, all modern machinery is going to be far more capable than the rider, and it's therefore more a combination of personal brand loyalty and preference (ergos etc.) than raw per…

I have just read the four suspension articles that appeared on this site a while ago. I'd forgotten about them at the time and only just found them again. They are great but seem to finish before the really interesting bit starts. Springs are covered in great detail but dampers are not covered. Does anyone know who wrote the articles? I'd love to find out if there are still more to come or if I'm going to be left wanting.

  16. Started by jeff geisen,

My son's handlebars broke Sunday while riding very difficult sections. We were hammering expert lines at the site of our club trial last month. We were halfway through our "second loop", and I had ridden through the trap first. After passing through the end gate, I glanced back to watch Ian come through. but he waved me back to the start gates. When I got around to where he was, he was holding the whole right side of his Renthals, connected to the motorcycle by only the throttle cable and brake line! Luckily, he was doing some small front wheel hops while waiting for me to ride through. If the bars had broken anywhere else, especially in the sections, the results would h…

I bought some new filter oil and followed the instruction to the letter Its `Putoline Action Fluid` now that i`ve come to clean it off my filter,it wont clean off properly. I`ve tried hand washing with washing up liquid(the one that keeps your hands as soft as your face ) and then putting it in the washing machine on its own but its still got a tacky residue and dark blue streaks in did it have to much fluid on in the 1st place ? if so what would be the running symptoms of having to much filter oil if any? As I said ..I followed the instructions to the letter which was - totally immerse filter in the fluid then gently squeeze it out until an even light blue c…

I currently ride a GG 320 1997 with a 2-piston front brake (which is the stock setup). I wish to upgrade it for something more performant. After shopping around it seems I have the choice of: - AJP 4-piston (cheapest) - Galfer 4-piston (more expensive) - Gas Gas 4-piston (from the more recent models, what year would fit?, price?) And that brings the questions: will I be able to keep the same master cylinder/lever assembly? Will I be able to re-use the same line and fitting? If anyone has a recommendation on that topic, let me know. Hugo
