Montesa

  1. Helloo, It's been almost a year it seems since I last touched the Mont and I can't for the life of me remember the carb settings!! I've got this constant plug fouling issue so want to go back over everything from scratch and double check! Last thing I remember is changing the jets from standard to Comp....then, maybe!! back to standard again!! Does anybody have details of the carb set-up and a pdf of the parts catalogue? It's a 2004 running the Dellorto....could so with jet sizes, needle position, float height, air screw etc etc..... Cheers!

I popped out to work today and when I came back I noticed that someone had put a Cota 4RT in the back of my van. I must admit I pleased with thsi bike as considering its age its not in too bad nick. I just need to get the knack of starting it. I am getting better at starting it but its going to take some time to get my leg and brain educated. The only issue is the master cylinder for the front brake spat its fluid out at the shop. So that needs sorting. But thats not a major issue. I would like pointing in the direction of a manual as my google foo seems a bit weak at the moment. I would prefer a hard copy if possible. I just need to learn how to ride this without hurtin…

Hello, A mate of mine has just got a shiny new 4rt from his local dealer, who removed all the lights and wiring loom. He wants to re fit the horn for road trials without cutting up the loom (just incase he ever wants to refit the lights). 1. Has anyone tried this already? 2. Will he need the relay fitted if he does re-fit the horn? Thanks for any advice

Hi all, this may be daft question but does anybody know if it's possible to fit a later clutch cover to a 71/72 Cota engine to have the clutch arm on top of the crankcase?

My 315 had a clutch that dragged so bad you had to push off and then click it in gear when it was cold/first started. Then after it warmed the it would drag badly unless you blipped the throttle every 3 seconds. Also hard to modulate. Tried the Silkolene oil, but not better. I finally bit the bullet and installed new standard friction disk which are a mix of cork and paper fibre. Also went to the recommended Elf oil. Just to make sure I bleed the hydraulics. Clutch works fine now. A little clunk as it goes in gear, but the bike does not move. Smooth progressive engagement. It now has about 3 hours since the rebuild and still works fine.

Stripped down clutch casing today to inspect the plates i took the whole side casing off and the kick start spring didnt look right is was touching the outer basket so I removed and cleaned the kick start idler gear. The question is though when I put it back together do i have to put any tension in the spring buly winding it half a turn etc or do i just fit it straight in the hole as is? Pic for attention Thanks in advance

Hey Guys I lost one of my silver fork guards on my Repsol 4rt at a recent trial. I have search on the net and made a few phone calls but no seems to stock them any more apart from the black trick bits ones. it does not need to be real carbon fibre but have that silver carbon look. I know SXS used to do them but not anymore! Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Morning all I wonder, looking at some 4RT 2015 model era mods the Repsol seems to have some slight changes, carbon bits and the biggest change is the Showa suspension over the non race rep. But when I look at the 2018 Repsol model there seems to be no LTD edition plate on the frame. Did they just stop doing this run and is there any changes that won't be included as a result? Also are there any interweb sources you use for checking spec changes through the model years? Honda seems a bit hit and miss on the interweb Calling all you 4RT fans. But not the burnt out motor ones. LOL. Cheers

I have replaced the bearing in the clutch basket and refitted it to the bike but the clutch will now not disengage the drive. The actuating arm moves, the clutch operates and the clutch plates are not stuck together. Does anyone have any idea what I have done wrong? Cheers John

Just thought I'd share something I was struggling with for a while and finally fixed. Front end would creak quite badly when turning the wheel from side to side, audible when the engine was off. Torqued head bearings - that wasn't it. Tightened the front mudguard - I was sure the fork brace had some play in it - that wasn't it. I turned out to be the allen head bolt under the right fork leg that clamps the axle tight. That was loose. Bit embarrassing really, I obviously forgot to tighten it after putting a new front tire on. That is all!
