    Beta Help

If you put your location on your post it may be there is someone local who could help or advise a good local dealer.
  2. I thought the silver plastics were a bit strange as well. There is no point in doing anything else until you have checked the woodruff key in flywheel (as already suggested by B40RT) Easy start is worth a try - sometimes it gets a bike going that has stale fuel / oil in the crankcase. Better still, remove the carb and reed block and fill the crankcase with fresh fuel mix. Rock the crank back and forth then tip the bike upside down to drain it all out.
  3. I have never criticised the pro for how it rides or its competitiveness, If you search back through my old posts you would find I actually was very complimentary of some of its features and used the word thoroughbred. My criticism of the pro was that it was too lightly built in some areas and had an ongoing reliability problem in another. The new owner of GG has acknowledged past quality problems and made it clear he intends to put them right.

    Trs Bike Unveiled

I was told by a reliable source who is in a position to know. I know the area of the bike affected but am not at liberty to say. It is obvious that there is nothing wrong with the performance of the bikes. Far better a bit of delay whilst what has been noticed is investigated and resolved rather than prematurely releasing a product to market. I used the word problems not trouble. Problems nearly always occur during final stages of product testing There is one spark plug, it fires twice

    Yes Or No ?

If you want a bike to ride most weekends and practice on in between you do not want to be waiting for spares. If you particularly like these type of Ossas and only want to ride it occasionally, ownership rather than riding being your hobby then spares availability is less significant.
  6. Funny, one of those bikes with a fiddly carburettor and old fashioned 5 speed gearbox has just won the opening round of the indoor WTC, perhaps master Yoda was casting his wand over the event.
  7. TL 125 wiring diagram.doc See above diagram. If you do install a regulator make sure it can only affect the voltage to the lights. If it is connected to the ignition it will probably prevent sparking Looks like Ebay advice may be wrong, no sign of a rectifier on wiring diagram. My TL did not have a rectifier but lights had been removed before I bought it.

    Trs Bike Unveiled

The engine is significantly different from GG, Vertigo or Jotagas, it is more like a Sherco in that it uses a traditional 5 speed gearbox rather than a split shaft 4 gear pair 6 speed box as used by GG. The clutch is similar to GG. I have been told there are some problems which are minor but will take time to resolve. Whether these are due to part quality or a design issue I have not been told. Double spark ignition should improve combustion and reduce partial misfiring at very low RPM or HIgh advance conditions.
  9. I think Vertigo and a lot of other engines use Kokusan Denki electrics. Does smooth power equal grip? Remember the development of big bang 500cc GP 2t engines. Smoother equally spaced firing intervals tended to reduce grip.
  10. Although I would generally advise a 250 or 200 is the best size of bike to start on I would not necessarily let it be the overruling factor particularly when buying secondhand. If a good 300 Beta (which does have softish bottom end power for a 300) were available I would be temped to buy it, fit a slow action throttle and extra base gaskets.
  11. What mcman56 says is correct, lights can run on ac and in this case the voltage is limited by a device that dumps excess voltage. Before anyone can offer any more specific advice you probably need to post the exact wiring diagram for your bike and maybe a photo of you stator.
  12. New or known good plug first Clean points and set points gap at 0.35 to 0.4mm Timing is 3.25 BTDC but there is no reason why it should be wrong. My guess is its the ignition source coil in the stator of the HT coil. Fitting electronic ignition? The standard points set up usually works fine and is a lot cheaper but does need checking every 30 to 50 hours riding.
  13. Tricky to explain in writing. Electrics back in the 70s was a bit less refined than today particularly the electronic control of battery charging. If all the alternator power is used all the time it causes overcharging of the battery when the lights are off. To prevent this only part of the alternator is on all the time. This supplies sufficient power for keeping battery topped up, ignition and occasional use of horn or indicators. when lights are switched on the second part of the alternator is also switched on. A TL 125 does not have a battery but I guess a similar principle applies On the rectifier i your picture i assume the yellow red and pink wires are the inputs from the alternator and the pale green will supply the power for your ignition and lights.
  14. I know Jason Finn was still doing shows a few years ago, is he still doing them? Anyone know why he gave up on trials?
  15. You need to speak to Citizens Advice. I am near 100% certain that terms "like sold as seen" or no "warranty implied or given" no longer enable a dealer or even "multiple" private seller to sell something that is not fit for purpose or of merchantable quality.
  16. Could you expand a bit more on what you envisage TRADITIONAL TRIALS to be.
  17. Just got a Lumix FZ72, Unbelievably easy to use and capable for the price, even takes photos in Sepia. Having said that when on holiday my sister likes to carry an old 35mm film camera (in addition to her digital). Reason is she can leave it hung on her neck with lens cap off and take a photo without having to wait for the camera to turn on and focus. Means she gets photos she would miss with a digital.

    Beta 300 2012

Generally good reliable bike, Agree with above comments but stators are now no worse than other makes. Look for stripped threads in the alloy. Water pump casing prone to being damaged but only about £40 or JB weld to fix.

    Beta Rev3 No Spark

Who rewound it for you? There is one company I have heard of where some stators come back from no better than when they were sent.
  20. As a ballpark figure to run a simple assembly plant with about 30 employees you are looking at £600k to £1m annual "wage" costs. Non wage costs will add about £300k to £600k That is a total of £900k to £1.6m. Divide that by 3000 bike and it gives an assembly cost of £300 to £533 er bike. Not implausible IF they sell 3000
  21. I found the Seeley 200 difficult / impossible to get the carburation as I would have liked it at the botton end. maybe it was not carburation, just the engine characteristics. In those days tight turns were ridden without the clutch. On the 200 I found as you started to open the throttle the power kicked in with a jerk ( quite a bit more than a 325 Bultaco) which pushed the front end out on tight turns. Only ridden TLRs round a car park, felt to be a smother engine than the 200
  22. I would say from the mid 1970s when bikes became good and reliable until the early / mid 1990s when hop and stop and dual routes started to creep in. It is noticeable that trials that have most in common with that era still tend to attract the biggest entries.
  23. Its not just ethanol that is the problem, there are a lot of additives in fuel. Some cause some plastics to swell, others cause then to shrink, some cause embrittlement. A hot water / detergent solution (Janitol original) will often reduce the size of a swollen tank, the longer the treatment the more the reduction. Last year I let some 2k primer partially go off in my spraygun and could not fully shift it with gunwash. I put some methylene chloride is the gun and left it for a week. In addition to shifting the primer it shrunk the paint cup. Whether it would shrink a tank I have yet to try.
  24. Whining on overrun could be dry piston, that is why putting oil down plug hole cured it. What oil to petrol ratio are you using and what make of oil.
