  1. Dear me Nigel, have you no sense of humour?. The shareholder % will probably have little bearing on who builds, supplies components for or runs the power stations. As most people know a fair % of Chinese goods are crap and their safety record in mining, power generation and hazardous chemical storage hardly inspires confidence. As for being off topic, fox hunting and cosmetics testing on the Scott thread must take that award.

    Point Gap, Ty80

15 to 18 thousandths of an inch or about 0.4mm. I don't think you can move the stator backplate on a TY 80 and therefore the timing (in addition to dwell angle) is fixed by points gap. Smaller gap retards timing, larger gap advances it. If you can find the specified advance / TDC then use a strobe to set this. I think TY 80 should be set between 1.8 and 2.3 BTDC.
  3. If you have a look at close up photos you can see the guard does not protect from impacts at some angles, Rossi's knee would most likely have hit Marquez's knuckles above the guard. I see Rossi has decided to go to court (announced late yesterday) to appeal the stewards decision.
  4. Having had several re looks at the incident it is clear Rossi was running Marquez wide, quite probably hoping he would run off the track and give Rossi several seconds breathing space. It is hard to tell but it looks as if Marquez deliberately "nutted" Rossi on the leg and it was this action that caused Rossi to flick his leg out, hitting Marquez's brake. We can never know exactly what was in both riders minds but the more I watch the race the more certain I am that Marquez was deliberately spoiling Rossis lines. My view is that the most guilty, irresponsible party in the whole incident are the stewards, Marquez and Rossi should be left to sort themselves out, not have a decision imposed that devalues the championship and spoils the final round. As Steve Parish points out from time to time, its motorcycle racing, not county dancing (or something like that)
  5. Some posters had mentioned a possible Chinese interest in GG, that seems no longer to be the case, they are going to build nuclear reactors in southern England instead. Lets hope their nuclear engineering is more consistent quality than their other products or you southerners will have more to worry about than GGs future
  6. Should the Scott have been shown on TV where a wide audience may see it - Hoards of bike hating ramblers my descend on the event next year, film the environmental destruction and then post it with a letter to their MPs. If we want the Scott to survive perhaps we should have a blanket press ban?
  7. Look at the proverb on the bottom of Andy's posts. I was making a joke - Do a search on Cecil the lion and you will get it http://www.theweek.co.uk/64546/cecil-decision-to-drop-charges-against-lion-killer-disgraceful

  9. ACN | GIRONA manufacturer of electric motorcycles Torrotes is who has submitted the highest bid to acquire Gas Gas immersed in the process of liquidation. It proposes to buy it for 9.66 million euros. The other two firms involved in the production unit -the funds IRG and French Sherco- offered 7.02 and 2.66 million euros. The opening of the escrow Commercial Court has allowed all interested in knowing Gas Gas want to keep the brand, to revive activity and take part in the current squad, subcontracting between 47 and 60 workers. Representatives of the committee requested speed the process and remember that the two chains have temporary ERE have already consumed 60% of the unemployment benefit. The opening of the stems, which has become the Commercial Court of Girona, has served to put figures on the three offers that were presented to buy Gas Gas and know, roughly, what lies behind industrial projects . The company Girona, which made trial bikes and enduro takes months due to production stoppage and went into liquidation in July. Of the three firms interested in acquiring it, who presented the highest financial offer is the manufacturer Catalan Torrotes electric motorcycles. A total of 9,669,628.20 euros offered to buy the productive unit and assume part of the debt that drags Gas Gas. In fact, if your proposal is broken down, 6.38 million euros will be allocated to cover the credits contracted company Girona (with organizations such as Sabadell, CaixaBank, BBVA, ING and the Catalan Institute of Finance). The offer Torrotes, which is accompanied by a guarantee of up to 150,000 euros, which also includes pay 1.65 million euros to buy the machinery and factory polygon Salt, his Gas Gas. Regarding the industrial project, Torrotes plans to invest up to 13 million euros over three years to carry out a feasibility plan that allows the company to revive (keeping their brand). Regarding staff, the maker of electric motorcycles Catalan subrogated proposed contracts for 55 workers. 7.02 MEUR, supply of funds A bid Torrotes follows the investment fund IRG. This quantifies the value of the production unit at 7,020,115.94 euros. It proposes to pay 500,000 euros in cash upon completion of the liquidation process and allocate the remaining 6.5 million euros to refloat the company. This offer also states that, in regard to the debt burdens assumed solely Gas Gas has contracted with Social Security. Regarding the industrial project, the supply of WRI is more workforce subrogation provisions (specifically, 60 employees). The fund ensures that they maintain seniority and the rights they had acquired Gas Gas and if they need more staff, priority will be to hire former employees. The proposal stresses that IRG will keep the factory in Salt and one of the "priorities" will be to improve after-sales service and spare parts (weaving a network of importers and dealers). Sherco the lowest Finally, three envelopes were opened today at the Commercial Court, the French Sherco is proposing the lowest. In particular 2.66516 million euros. Of these, 1.16 million euros will be allocated to the purchase of the plant, machinery, stock and customer network Gas Gas; the rest will be used to pay compensation to workers who take leave and to cover the debt owed to Social Security. The proposal includes Sherco subrogated 47 contracts (of the three firms is who will take less staff) and invest 11.8 million euros in a plan to revive both the company and the brand. In addition, given that the factory be acquired Salt "without charges" and agreed with creditors. The committee calls for "speed" After the tender opening, now opens the period for parts (administrator, staff, etc.) to study the offers.During this time, the Commercial Court can also give option to the three firms concerned to improve the initial proposals. After receiving reports from different parts pertocarà solve the judge who will be the new owner of Gas Gas. The template calls for the Commercial quickly to decide the future of the company and allow it can resume production of motorcycles as soon as possible. The secretary of the committee, Jose Maria Lara says that 85 workers remain chained already have two ERE temporary. The latter is still in force, began to apply in July and lasts for half a year. "In total, we have already consumed almost 60% of our unemployment benefit, so we need a solution now and start working," said Lara. The Secretary also recalled that those workers who take leave to remain precarious, "because they have accepted consume part of their benefit at the expense of having a future." Therefore, from the committee say they will now fight especially "to the social", with the aim of ensuring that keep many jobs as possible. Gas Gas went into liquidation in early July, unable to renegotiate a debt that goes up to 44.3 million euros. Then, the company already had two months in bankruptcy. The company maintains save production since the beginning of the year, and today, the only gateway to resources comes from the sale of spare parts.
  10. I think its a legal requirement for UK road use. Strangely at Adult MX gearbox sprocket guards are not needed, but if you ride adult MX class at a practice day organised by a schoolboy club you have to have a gearbox sprocket guard even though adults ride in separate group.
  11. I know Stoner & Rossi had some tough battles but I never felt Rossi bullied Stoner. In all sports at this level its bound to get a bit heated at times but I think Marquez's tactic of what virtually amounts to a repeating MX block pass is something new. Quite a few of Marquez's passing moves (not just in the Sepang race) would have resulted in an instant several placings penalty in karting. I have nothing against Marquez, I am as happy to see him win as anyone else, its just a pity that when the tactics he uses has resulted in crashing, a championship contender has had his championship hopes virtually ended. The stewards should have seen what was coming and warned Marquez in advance of the race, maybe given Rossi a bit of timely advice as well. Its far from the first time, and won't be the last that an unfair decision has been made, just ask any Scottish rugby supporter!
  12. Thanks for that. Hopefully programmes like this will increase the acceptance of trials in the countryside and help end the association (in some peoples minds) with the negative side of MX and Enduro. New American Dentists proverb say - wake a sleeping lion then shoot it
  13. See previous posts on brakes and Beta in particular. Almost certainly just needs thorough internal cleaning, no parts required.
  14. You can't properly bench test a HT coil without proper gear. Warm your bike up at an Auto diagnostics centre and they will be able to check the coil with a clip on tester in a few seconds. Its just a matter of clipping a sensor onto the HT lead or holding a COP probe against the coil.
  15. Very unfortunate that it seems to be the case that the motogp championship will probably have been decided by stewards, not riding ability. I think Marquez has born a grudge because of Argentina and Assen. At Philip Island Marquez messed Rossi about when he had the pace to win. At Sepang Marquez was again clearly not riding to achieve his fastest lap times but rather to mess Rossi about again. Both Rossi and Marquez are not averse to a bit of argy bargy and sooner or later one or both was going to end up on the deck. My view is that Marquez should not have interfered in the championship this way, if he was faster he should have pulled away, if he was slower he should have stayed behind Rossi. Any fool can repeatedly dive at the rider in front and put him off his pace. Regarding Lorenzo, yes he is a very good fast rider but when Rossi left yamaha, the yamaha lost pace compared to the Hondas, Perhaps Lorenzo is not so good as a Development rider? Then Rossi comes back, develops the Yamaha until it beats the Hondas once again and Lorenzo takes advantage of it. Sepang reminds me a bit of When the championship was ruined (much earlier in the season) when Max Biaggi was black flagged for overtaking under the yellow flag, a decision that was somewhat dubious.
  16. One way may be for experience riders to give video presentations and show a bike at schools, youth clubs, country shows etc. Even having done that there are major barriers to entering the sport for a lot of people: Where to keep the bike How to get it to events Where to practice Cost - particularly lack of low cost medium / small introductory machine Need to have some mechanical knowledge to avoid ongoing and cumulative dealer bills Lack of opportunity to try the sport without spending on a bike - easy to hire karts for practice sessions for example Competition from lots of other "minimum investment" sports that youngsters try at formative ages eg. Cycling, Shooting, Snow sports, sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, surf & sail boarding. Edit - many years ago not far from Nord View "trials riders" were invited to put on a display at a local community event that would attract several thousand spectators. A number of riders built a course, bit like kickstart and did wheelies and bunny hops. Crowd found it fascinating. A local trials dealer was invited to put up advertising and bring a few bikes for interested parties to look at and maybe have a go. He declined. A few years later he was moaning about lack of sales and closed down.
  17. What channels are you watching? whenever I have seen US TV the commercials give you time to go out for a 3 course meal!
  18. Changing from MTL to ATF will probably make the clutch sharper as the ATF is quite a bit lower viscosity Exactly what grade of MTL are you using?

    Crankcase Paint

  20. Deleted - too crap even for a cracker
  21. I strongly recommend your son uses MX boots for MX. Trials boots have far too much grip and will cause severe knee injury sooner or later and accelerated knee wear in the meantime.
  22. I would go along with both previous posts except avoid the Rotax engine.
  23. Oh, the joys of reliable hydraulics! Two usual causes. 1) Machining crap left in after manufacture, this is fine sharp swarf and it cuts the seals or wedges in the lips causing leakage. Usually a good flush out and a seal change cures this. 2) A poor finish on the cylinder bores and sharp edges / protruding burrs on the fluid ports. Careful work with de burring tools the lapping out the bores with 1200 or 1500 grade wet and dry, then fitting new seals usually cures this.
  24. Check the outer races of the bearings are not loose in the frame. If they are stick them in with the right grade of Loctite. If this does not work a run of weld around the outside of the frame where the races fit will shrink the tube and tighten them up. Remove the races before welding. A decent thickness of TIG weld deposit is needed.
  25. I have considered a few Bultacos but the have either been to far to look at, misdescribed or a pile of crap for the money. Regarding classic Japanese 4 cylinder road bikes there seems to be no real reason for the price differences. Some go for £5k plus whilst others that only need a few £hundred or maybe £1k to bring them up to immaculate struggle to reach £1.5 to £2k.
