  1. Occasionally wires break inside the insulation especially where they go into the back of spade connectors etc. This can kill the electrics with no externally visible sign. You need to use a resistance meter with a piercing probe to make sure electricity is getting from the connector to the wire. Also a terminal can slip back inside a connector block, examine the pin / socket positions on the connectors you have had apart. I am not that familiar with 4RT electrics but in general (rectifier / regulators excepted) Honda components are pretty reliable. A broken wire is far more likely to be the fault. I would start by finding a means to spin the engine (I use a power drill on 2Ts) and measure the outputs from the components starting with the source coil, ACG, Ignition trigger and working gradually through the system to the spark plug. The ignition circuit falls approximately into 2 parts, the bits that produce the spark (not too difficult to test) and the electronics that control the production of the spark which usually need specific diagnostic equipment Edit - written before previous post
  2. Its strange, when you go into cloths shop you expect to come out with a jacket that fits, buy a trial bike (or any motorcycle) and you get what the bike comes with whether you are a 7 stone midget or a 20 stone porker. Find some bars that have a bend, rise and width that suits you and puts nice even pressure across your hands in the normal riding position. My favourites are painted MX bars with a welded steel brace and good knurling. They are strong and cheap and you can braze plugs on the ends
  3. Fajardo seems to have moved ahead of Dabill. What is the reason? Is Vertigo not as good as Beta? Is Dabill handicapped by developing new bike? Has Fajardo / Beta combination improved relative to others? Should EFI 2T now be beating carburated 2T?

    Trs Bike Unveiled

Jordi developed one of the strongest most reliable trials bikes - the pre pro Gasgas, If the TRS is anything like that it should do well.
  5. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/277534/guide-to-the-iva-scheme.pdf Its all in the above, What a pile of Shyte (Courtesy of Blair government). Some new mass produced vehicles can't comply with SVA.
  6. 400 to 450 RPM is often cranking / starting RPM. Some ignitions fire at TDC or even after TDC at these starting RPMs to prevent kickbacks. Husqvarna chain saws used to fire after TDC below 480 RPM so they did not kickback and injure you hand with the starter cord.
  7. The plastic is probably molybdenum disulphide filled nylon 66 or graphite / PTFE of some sort http://www.directplastics.co.uk/?gclid=CNbmh83xkscCFYjLtAodY2UNCw You could get some rod and get them turned on a lathe.
  8. Polishing the metal where it slides over the seals usually solves many leaking fuel taps
  9. Sometimes it seems you post something intended to be a help only to get a pile of criticism. In reply to the last post, yes I do live in the real world but in a different police area to you (and a very low crime area) I have first hand experience of 2 attempted thefts where despite no loss of property the police took the trouble to investigate properly. In one case they got DNA from spit, in the other they identified marigold washing up glove prints that matched another crime for which the person got 21 months. In the case of the DNA it did not match any record held at the time but a person who matched was jailed for another crime about 18 months later. The prosecution brought up the damage to our security fence at that trial and the thief admitted he had intended to break into our premises. Police response is very variable. I have known the just give a crime number response, I have also known when they have not even recorded break ins and thefts yet on other occasions they will go to the effort of describing minor thefts in detail in the local paper in the hope someone has seen something. CCTV on your own premises is best when you know several others in locality who also have CCTV. Even if thieves wear balaclavas and don't show number plates, it is a fair bet you will be able to get the plate number from other CCTV in the area and possibly a face as well. CCTV will deter many thieves.
  10. I like carbs on my off road 2T bikes, I like EFI on my road car. "Horses for courses" etc. I can fix my carb on the fell with a 50 p screwdriver, To fix my cars EFI I need a pile of tools, a laptop and £1400 of diagnostics gear and if even a small part is faulty it will probably cost more than a complete new Dellorto.
  11. I think when Marquez was talking about corner entry feel he was referring to the time between the end of heavy braking and the apex / putting power back on. When he is on a chassis he likes he is very fast in this area compared to most if not all other riders.
  12. Depends what RPM idle is set at. Quite a few 2t ignitions rise from 0 advance at 400 RPM to say 7 degrees at 800 RPM. Edit - Electrex should be able to supply and ignition map

    Fouling Plug

Post a photo of fouled plug.
  14. Ask anyone who has had bike stole if they had wished they had done more to prevent it and most if not all will answer yes. Several £100s is well worth spending to make theft more difficult. CCTV is only part of this and unfortunately at times the police response is pathetic. I have experience of CCTV both in public and private premises and it has reduced thefts very significantly. It has also resulted in several rapid arrests and ensured convictions. Do all you can: Datatag, mark parts, register the bike, fit alarms and ground anchors, remove bike parts. Do all you can to slow or identify thieves and increase the likelihood of them leaving fingerprints or DNA.
  15. https://www.gov.uk/rules-motorcyclists-83-to-88/motorcycle-licence-requirements Suggest reading the above, there has been quite a lot of incorrect information posted and the penalties for breaking the rules are quite severe particularly for young riders. I know of 2 riders who have had fines in the region of £450 to £600, A ban (to run from when they are old enough) 6 to 9 points on the licence, and on top of that they will face a 2 to 3 times multiplier on their insurance premiums for all vehicles which means say at 17 & 1/2 years old they may have to pay £3,000 to £4,000 to insure a very basic 1.0 litre car. Limiting under 19s to 125 cc was the result of EU legislation, the UK coalition government saw no point in it, but Tony Blairs Labour government had already signed up to EU licence harmonisation. I think the ACU should have done much more to oppose the under 19 restriction.
  16. The different coloured gaskets are most likely different thicknesses to set the squish or compression correctly or to your liking. If you can't get piston etc from GG, try Apico, Wiseco, Vertex or other piston suppliers
  17. http://www.toolstation.com/ have some good offers on CCTV etc at the moment, a lot cheaper than replacing a stolen bike. I have no connection with toolstation other than as an occasional customeer
  18. The engine in the patent diagrams has little in common with a typical 2 stroke engine other than it produces a power stroke for every "crank" rotation. The engine shown would also be too tall for trials / off road application.
  19. I would advise against putting grease of any sort on the back of the seals / grooves during assembly. It will trap in the bottom of the groove and cause the seal to have a reduced inside diameter. This can cause the seal to be damaged when piston is inserter of cause seal to bind on piston in use or when attempting to bleed.
  20. If they wanted to, KTM would have no problem making a trials bike either 2T or 4T. I once heard the KTM make or made the BETA 4T trial engines, anyone know if that is true?
  21. With the seals removed did the pistons move easily (lubricated with brake fluid) in the bores, if not check the surface of the pistons and polish out the bores with fine wire wool. Is there any corrosion in the seal grooves - you need a dental inspection mirror to check this properly, any corrosion or dirt at all must be polished out. When re fitting the seals dampen them with brake fluid, but leave the groove dry. When fitting the pistons put plenty of brake fluid on the seals and bores, use red rubber grease on the piston. Pistons should push in easily with light to medium finger pressure, if not something is amiss, do not force them in. Put PTFE tape on bleed nipple threads then vacuum bleed, but do not use more too much vacuum. Then bleed normal way by pressing pedal. If that does not work, tie the pedal down and pour boiling water over calliper until it is hot, then continue bleeding. Try standing bike on its back wheel overnight so there are no "up loops" or air traps in hose, any air should move up through master cylinder.
  22. Rossi is amazing, not just because he can ride a motorcycle fast but even more so because of the way he can stay motivated after many many years in a dangerous sport.
  23. As suggested check for spark, could be ignition HT coil failing. Dismantle the breather mechanism inside you filler cap, These can fall to pieces and stop air getting into tank. Clean carb including inlet filter and check float height.
  24. Check the clutch centre nut. Does the vibration happen all the time or just on overrun?
  25. Truly remarkable, I actually agree with Dabster on this one
