  1. Thanks for that constructive input Gaz ! the problems you encountered will help me fine tune my scoring model and hopefully make it better any further features you would like to see in it please let me know Writing the spreadsheet is my first step as its quite straightforward to get the basic functions working but using excel has its limitations If it works out ok, i will probally go to the next step of writing a seperate database and making it web based so peeps can edit the data themselves. ( address/email/etc ) i can already do this on my site anyway so i may want to use this feature thanks again No, im just a computer junkie
  2. Great. is this system freely available? I would like to know what features it has?
  3. I am currently producing a spreadsheet/database system using MS Excel which simplifies the task of entering the scores and producing nicely presentable data for the entrants/website. The system uses the LOOKUP suite of functions in MS Excel which scans a list of names which you can call up using a drop down menu and adds them to your master list putting in, class/machine & club automatically. No manual entry is required. After this is done, at the end of the trial, the only thing needed to enter is the results from each section and when thats done, This Sheet is automatically generated. No manual sorting or anything is needed. There are times when peeps either retire or ride out of class (ROOC) and im currently working on fine tuning my excel model to cope with this. Also, im looking at taking this data and producing Championship Standings automatically also. With this system. I believe it is possible for me to produce the results for say 70 entrants and publish them on our website in less than 15 minutes after the event has finished. I have a few questions for any club organisers who may be reading this: Firstly, Can you advise me on ways that you do it and if there better than this, please let me know. Secondly, Is this something you may be interested in using yourselves.? If there is enough interest, I will produce a copy of it for other clubs to use ( for a small fee to help our club of course ) Kindest regards Ian

Great pic m8 What equipment are you using?
  6. Yes , Im lucky that I own a design engineering company I noticed kids using 2 fingers on the clutch lever because they couldnt pull it in with 1 finger. So this would help them out for sure
  7. Well i said i would design a new lever and this is a basic 3d prototype view of it. It works by using an offset centre pin creating a cam effect when rotated. The movement is 4mm of travel but i can make it whatever i want. The force required to operate the clutch is 50% of what it is normally. This also means it would be easier to control the slip of the clutch as there would be double the distance the lever would have to travel to engage the clutch fully over what it is now. The pin in the centre is on an econcentric bush allowing for fine adjustment.( and I mean FINE ! ) To see a quick 3D animation of it, look Here

    Sherco Nightmare

I have just re read one of your previous posts and it says that the reason your machine seized in the first place, was due to this fault therefore, the first place to look is the carb and see if excess fuel is getting into the crankcase.

    Sherco Nightmare

Theres 2 likely causes of this i feel. The first is what happened to me some years ago on my Fantic. I got a casing fracture and the machine revved out of control when the machine was revved even a little. When I stripped it i could see a crack in the crankcase housing although i was amazed how small it was to have such a large effect.. As your machine siezed already, The stress at siezure could have caused this for sure. The other thing is possibly excess fuel is also getting into the crank and not being burnt fully till u add some air by opening the throttle. The engine wont rev on air alone, it must have fuel as well obviously If you get it pressure tested, let us know the results.
  10. I was reading in a science journal last night that the science development team at Kwik Fit have developed a new exhaust system for 2 stroke motorbikes that changes the tone to sound like a 4 stroke. This it appears is to 'fool' the environmentalists at Motorbike Trials competitions to think we are all riding 4 strokes therefore complying with the new regulations that have been proposed. I quote from the journal. This looks great, What do you think of this then ?
  11. Ok.. How heavy is your son?
  12. Ok, it seems peeps are generally favourable about the REV 3 .. anyone got any comments on the Sherco 200 ?
  13. After watching the same person myself behind him in the queue, I have got to agree..... Like the sad git I am, I got the missus to take some video footage of him climbing the banks to see how he does it.. It looked to me that he selected a high gear and slipped the clutch ( and of course his extraordinary skill played a part ) and he went up the banks with consumate ease So, i reckon a lighter bike with less grunt is the way to go. The sherco 200 is only 163cc anyway so it should have that little bit extra for us ..errr .. portly chaps shall we say
  14. Ok, i just gave them a ring and he will get back to me in the morning with a price and availability of a clutch set
  15. Whos the person we use for spares for sherco's in our area m8?
  16. Yeh sure, I agree .. peeps dont want to be pulling the lever full distance for sure. But currently, I have the opposite extreme.. I have next to no movement on the lever taking me from stationary to full engagement so somehwere in between is what i would like. As HondaRS mentioned, A good solution is to change the master cylinder but I dont know whats available on that so need to check that out.. Just for the sake of it, Ill do a design and post it on here in a week or two Edit: I have checked out the info from Sherco and they dont recommend pre-loading the piston and thats what i would have to do so a rethink is needed A 4ft kick start .. Could do that but Marky G reckons that if you jump on that the bike would do a 360 degree spin
  17. Glad you said that Marky G Sorry HondaRS, I probally didnt make myself clear. What i can achieve in a new design is to get around 2mm of travel (instead of 8mm currently) on the hydraulic piston with the lever travelling the full distance as it does now. This means I can make an approximate 4:1 mechanical advantage decreasing the force required to pull the lever considerably. I expect for most people, their current setup works for them ok, but if your left hand isnt that strong then any lever which requires less effort should be a good thing. I need to do some more research first but i have no doubt this isnt very difficult to do Although you do make a good point about changing the master cylinder !
  18. Thanks for all your comments. I will take you up on that Hinters I think I will take a look at the clutch springs as that seems to be the obvious place to start from peoples comments. However, the current lever design is adjustable with a bolt & lock nut but i have noticed that the full travel of the piston is around 8mm. The actual movement of the piston to take the bike from stationary to full engagement is approximately 1.5mm. So my point is that i have 6.5mm of travel not doing anything. If i designed a lever which gave 2mm of travel instead of 8mm then i would have better clutch control I feel. I already have a design in mind so if the new lighter springs dont help, its off to the CAD workstation for me
  19. Hmmm, The clutch springs I could take a look at for sure. I didnt want to add any length to the lever as that would mean i would have to pull it in further from the fulcrum and that would mean of course my hand position would have to change to a wider position How much lever movement in degrees do you have in your setup from disengaged to engaged and do you get a nice smooth transition between the two states?
  20. I have noticed on my Sherco 290 that even though it has a hydraulic clutch lever, the force required to operate it is similar to that of a cable system of old. Also, the bite point is only over a few degrees of lever movement and I find this unnecessarily difficult to control. I have looked at the design of the lever itself and feel this can be greatly improved upon. My question is does anyone know of a better hydraulic clutch lever that gives a wider degree of movement at the bite point and less force to operate? If not, I will design and produce one myself Thanks
  21. Thanks for that m8 O, and btw .... if you need any advice on the use of email clients.. i will be only to willing to help LOL
  22. Jut to let you know, Briedden Hills MCC in Shropshire has got a new website. Find it here at Breidden Hills Mcc Hope you like it
