My sump plug was rounded off by the previous owner, it needed some work doing at Lampkins and they sorted it for me, they use special tools, or grind/hacksaw a slot into them and undo with a screwdriver

Hi All,
Last week towards the end of the trial, I started to hear a tap tap tap coming from my engine under throttle, it doesn't seem to get much faster when you accelerate faster, seems to stay the same kind of speed no matter what.
It's a kind of weird loud tap/clacking sound, I originally thought my mudguard was banging against the tyre as it's that kind of sound.
Doesn't happen at low revs and when it's revved out of gear (or in gear with clutch in) only when engaged and riding.
Engine pulls well and sounds sweet apart from this. It's done it all day today again and getting on my nerves big time.
Any ideas?
Many thanks!

I wish I was good enough to know a good shock from a bad one

Good idea Ant, wonder why they don't offer upgrades as a factory option, sure many would go for things like anodised wheels/hubs, carbon bits, number boards, suspension, larger tank etc if it were offered

OK gave the new pegs a thorough testing last weekend at the Macclesfield trial, here's my thoughts:
Fitting & Service: Ordered a pair of the Trialcast pegs from TrialCast a few weeks back, paid through paypal, and recieved them promptly in a special little box took them out to the bike and removed the old ones. New one's fitted on very easily, new springs and bolts included in the box. No problems there.
Aesthetics: Loving the gold colour, they look good on the bike, all good so far.
Design: The three large hole design means that even the larger clumps of mud have nowhere to hide, the few small bits that did stick were easily cleared with one kick up and snap back.
Grip: The larger footprint and shape of the peg gave me a fantastic feel through the boots, very grippy, was able to shift around on them without getting snagged, but no slipping off like I used to on the old ones
I'd rate them better than the Hebo I used to have on my Beta. As for the spoons that were on as standard (Sherco) I don't know why I waited this long to get rid of them!
So a big thumbs up to them from me, if you're undecided as to whether to splash out on some new pegs, at the same price as Hebo (

Mate, before buying a new stator, view my comments my this thread here, a rewound one is MUCH cheaper:

But what if you like Tutti Fruiti?
(Currently enjoying chocolate myself)

Ah your playground makes me do a little sex wee Rabie!!

Same reason you wear trials riding gear instead of a t-shirt and old jeans.
Because they look good.
-
Anyone know where I can find out more details about this trial? Google isn't much help
I'm torn between this one and the Barnsley trial, but need to know more about this one before choosing
Cheers!!

Hi Portman,
Here's a link to the pictoral guide from the Sherco website, I found my mark on the crankcase in the place as determined in the photos on the guide.
Hope this helps,
Andy

Just a little bit of info, I've got a 2005 290 too, and the mark on the crankcase is there, it's VERY VERY faint, but it does exist, it's at the top and it's a kinda arrow but as I said, it took me a good 10 minutes to find it.
-
I should imagine other components offset the weight
-
A guy at the last Barnsley trial had an 05 with everything 06 on it that he'd replaced, that one looks lovely!!
-
In the grand scheme of things,
-
You picking it up today fella?
-
The one you're buying is defo a very late 05 model mate.
-
Mine went in reverse, that was the stator, but as you said, you've already checked that, I'm out of ideas!
-
Have you tried setting your timing back to factory settings yet?
-
Yeah and frustratingly it seems to be only when the bike bits are in view?
-
He needs to read the "Trials Bike's in Houses" Thread

I would say it's a good thing for Montesa, as when 4 stroke is mandatory, they'll have the upper hand, those crazy Jap's know what they're doing!
